i'm not sure if this is in plain text, but isn't valve technically an independant game developer like troika or bethesda or inxile, which aren't owned by publishers like activision and ea and vu or anything?

or are they just too famous, rich, and well known to have the "indie" status affiliated with their company, this is something i've been wondering for a long time.

Yep, they are independent as far as I know. The employees get their money from Gabe's account, so they are self-funded.

could u please define indie? I'm gona guess that means independant :rolling:
but does that mean that they're the highest up in the chain and the publishers cant tell them jack sh!t?

the phrase indie is refering to self employed companies that fund themselves and aren't in any pressure to make any specific type of game by a publisher, but usually independant gameing companies put out low budget titles, which is definately not the case with hl2, so i was unsure if that phrase is the correct one to refer to them by

Yeah, they're independent. If Vivendi dies, they can just say, "Poor chaps... well, looks someone else gets to make money off us now!"

I think he put indie in because he coudnt fit independent in, plus since they are independent, doesnt that mean the people who work there get more moeny?

no, i put the word indie in for independant game developers are usually refered to as "indie" devlopers, it's a very common phrase in the entertainment industry, ie: indie films, indie music, indie gaming companies

yeah, I guess techincally they are and everything.... but for the most part, "indie developers" are considered small groups that publish thier own games....

and bethsoft isn't independent, thier a ZeniMax company.
