WoW = definately NOT "wow"

I'd suggest getting to a bit higher level before doing anything. I enjoyed the game from the very start, but I didn't really start having a blast until around 30 to 40 when I could start to join raids and get in on all the PVP action.

Edit: Hi Blah :)

Long time no see :)

Its like half this forum is addicted to WoW. We need to rename the forum! :monkee:

Bleh. Soooo much EQ2 bashing.. ;( It makes me sad to see the people in this community constantly bashing a great game just because it's not the type of MMO that they prefer to play.

The thing that I think sets most people off of EQ2 is because it is meant to be there for the long haul. EQ2 requires time and commitment if you want to play the whole game all the way through(which will never happen because they keep adding a rediculous amount of content). Also, WoW is much more newbie friendly. So the people that have never played a MMO or other casual gamers can easily get into the game. The action is fast paced and it is extremely easy to level.

As far as graphics goes, I don't think that WoW can get any better. All of WoW's graphics is mostly simple textures, yet the rich and vivid design of the world makes it very pleasing to the eye. The simple textures also helps keeps framerates smooth. EQ2's graphics are extremely detailed, and while the world design doesn't exude the art and style that WoW does, EQ2's world does have it's own charm. For now, it will take a super computer to run eq2 with maximum graphics settings. This is because SOE is planning for the future. As graphics technology advances, they'll keep making the graphics better and better...

I love both games, and regularly play both. It just so happens to be that EQ2 is my personal preference of MMO.

Im starting to love WoW, I played it for about 20 hours straight and I'm about to fall asleep.

I made a priest and got to level 8 was in a team and finished like 3 quests in about an hour - couldn't have done it without help.

The game is great. The thing I'm trying to say . I don't know which game came out first but the games are SO similar that you would think that Wow IS Everquest. The game play mechanics are almost exactly alike EQ. Even the layout of some parts of the maps is like de ja vu. EQ with more toony graphics.

By the way I fixed the video choppy problem by reducing the distance draw in. now its smooth

In certain areas of the game where they decided to make things round but they turned out hexagons. it detracts from the graphics. And the trees just look so toony. ah well.

\_/ <------ WoW circle, real circle --------> O

RANT: The thing I always say "don't make something a circle or rounded unless you absolutely have to. Try to reduce the polygons not only for performance, but becuase you can't make something round with polygons unless u use like a million. It just looks like shit. A hexagon. I don't mind square rooms - hell thats just like real life. thats what makes the game run smooth.END RANT

The thing I miss about everquest is the training points that you can apply to your stats every level.

The thing I don't miss about everquest is that the quests can be REALLY HARD. I mean just don't even bother hard. U wont see me helping anyone on that game

so far I haven't encountered a quest that couldn't be completed by delivering something to someone or by sheer power- when your level is high enough or when u are grouped well.

EQ quests are so difficult to find where you need to go. To me its just bad directions. Thats my biggest gripe about EQ

In Wow there are so many quests but they are usually aranged so they are "on the way" finish 2 or 3 quests in one trip.

I remember EQ had you backtracking which blows and they would always say.. "one more thing before I give u reward - walk all the way to the other side of the world and kill some leet mob"

Anyway the priest is cool- in EQ i never played a healer. I had one of each of the 4 melee class levels 30-50 and a couple casters around level 30.

I kind of like being a priest. I saved my M8's life a few times from some viscous creatures. I need sleep bye

For god's sake, can you PLEASE just play a character to LV10!? :p You get talent points and can upgrade certain skills and stats depending on class.

Sorry man :(

BTW i edited my last post alot

yea i know .. levle 10 ;)

i know but in eq u get them every level gives u something to go for

but the main reason I wanted to post is to say....

It takes forever to level up in WoW

i know i need to stick witha character but in EQ I could get to level 6 in like 15 minutes... of course it gets longer and longer every level after.

What about wow?

EDIT: I made a female human priest BTW. and I was tanking the level 2 and 3 mobs in my underwear . everyone would stop and stare. lol The priest is sexy as hell the way she stands to cast the holy spells... Highly recommended. PLus i need a twink(free items characer ) ;) :E (gold digger)

Same with WoW, you just have to get to lv10 first. :p

What about wow?

I remember playing a new character after playing my Warlock to lv24, and I was pleasantly suprised as to how fast I was levelling up. It was so easy in comparison! At lv24 all I had were elite quests I couldn't do. At lv1 I levelled up 3 levels in 20 minutes :D

If you do the quests in WoW you will level up easily. You're probably just going around killing everything you see.

Whirlwind weapon at lvl 34. You know how much fun I'm having. :)

By the way, as long as you know what you are doing, leveling in WoW is easiest and fastest of all MMOs I've played so far.

I think its safe to say, just cancel your subscription. You don't understand WoW enough to enjoy it. Frankly you complain about everything. If its not like EQ you complain about it, and things that are like EQ you complain about those things as well. Its obvious you don't like it so quit. That means less lag for people who want to play and enjoy the game.

Really, just go back to EQ and do yourself a favor.

PS - WoW has the fastest leveling process of any MMORPG.

I like WoW, but I've got a lock-up problem that just wont go away, it just randomly locks up, which really sucks if I'm in combat at the time. The thing is, I had this problem a couple of months ago, and I solved it with a defrag and reinstall. Then, with the new patch which did absolutely nothing for me this problem came back. I've tried the defrag and reinstall, changing drivers, deleting the config folders, everything they suggest. I am not the only one who has had this problem after the patch, however. If I am to pay $15/month this is completely unacceptable.

You know how I said it was really choppy? Well I just noticed that the factory setting for vertical sync was on. ERG . so I had vertical sync on. DUH. and I reduced the distance draw-in and now its very smmmmooooth.

Aw stop. Im merely noticing the differences after everyone on the forum told me it blew EQ 2 out of the water. There are things I like better on both. Its much slower to level up for me. I played non stop for like 20 hours and got only 8 levels and I was doing the quests. granted I was soloing but thats slow. well I just hit level 9 , now im going to sleep.

Im addicted to this game man, you need to keep up with my latest post before you reply. After all I had only played the game for a few hours with screwed up video settings and didn't even know the controlls the first couple times I posted.

Even a priest can hit level 10 in 3 hours, tops.

If you just got the game, play the damn game instead of posting here. Hell, I was playing it the whole day when I first got it.

ok so im installing it, all i have is the game. they guys at the store said all i needed was the game to create and account, is that true?

Eg. said:

Yup, pretty much...you also need some form of payment info to succesfully get an account.

Btw, did you get a friends key with your package ? :D
(Sorry, i'm asking everyone this ;))

I have a 46 Human Warrior and a 40 Night Elf Rogue...and my god am I having fun with this game.

Rogues are so fun to play. At level 40 I got safe fall, so I had just finished doing Scarlet Monastary and I decided to go to STV. I took the Goblin Zepplin to Grom'Gol and I jumped off before it got there. It was exciting.

If anyone is just starting, I recommend creating a rogue. So...fun :)

Can't wait until I get to level 60 and I can just stealth into horde cities or whatever

Help

Is there any character that should be good for unarmed combat?

I was a priest but I'm thinking from EQ caster classes couldn't swing as many times in 1 turn.

During normal attacking, when you get to a certain level can you strike more than once?

for example on EQ when you get to level 20 you swing your weapon 2 times and when you get to level 35 you swing your weapon 4 times for each turn

Does WoW incorporate something like this?

What levels can you begin?

Are their any classes that can't double and quad and attack?

For example in EQ the casters, paladins, and shadowknights could hit twice after level 20 but never learn to attack 4 times in one turn. Only the melee classes like warrior/rogue/bard/ranger/monk

In everquest they have a monk class that can fight hand to hand really well, along with kicks

I want to pick a character that can fight hand to hand combat well and be able to hit 4 times per turn-assuming that is possible. is it?

Also I read in the instructions that there are Fist Weapons in the game - Will they be able to strike 4 times still?

VirusType2 said:

It sounds like you want EQ ;)

There is hand to hand fighting in WoW, I haven't tried it yet though (more or a knife man :))

They're different games, and have different rules. Time to forget EQ and see what WoW has to offer (trying to make one emulate the other isn't going to work)

Well I was fighting without a weapon for a while and your unarmed skill raises and u get better but I wasn't really doing much damage.

It says in the instructions the priest may fight unarmed and the rogue does well with Fist weapons later in the game.

But i assumed the rogue needs a short sword/dagger to be able to backstab and most of his moves would be useless.

The only ones I saw that might be good were a paladin or mage, or posibly a priest - not sure about hunter or warrior.

I guess you don't see anyone going hand to hand.

I assume if u continue to use it for the whole game you will become very good without a weapon.

Any ideas which character to go with. Im waiting for someone to tell me how many times u can strike with some of the characters so I know which one to play with.

Thanks!

There were no turns in combat, you swung as fast as your weapon and they swung as fast as theirs, no turns.

If you attack a monster with just plain old attack, there is a time in between each swing. This is on a timer (your turn)

I was wondering if there are combos that will allow you to strike more than once per turn, once you get higher level?

your specials activate instantly, or as soon as have finished your current attack- this is governed by weapon speed.

By the way I realize that weapons have for example 1.2 damage per second, and that speed the factor here

that is true for PVE, as no matter what you do, you will get your attack, and the mob will get theirs... however

in PVP a weapon attacks at a certain speed, although you could call it a turn, in essence you can attack multiple times before they attack, simply by moving around in combat...

for instance regardless of how slow my weapon is, I can whack you, ran backwards frost you, whack you from behind etc, before you get 1 hit in on me.

turns would indicate that no matter what you do, each person would get their's in, and this is not the case.

which IMO is awesome, since I continually take out mutliple people, and higher (much higher in some cases) level people than me, simply because I can get behind them constantly.

silly non-fps people... using a keyboard to turn LOLz @ them :D

(again, moving around in PVE is pointless, get to dancing in PVP!)

VirusType2, sounds like you want to play the Rogue class. The Rogue is best for pure damage output when it comes to melee, and is also blindingly fast due to it's nifty combo abilities. :)

Yea I made a rogue about a half-hour ago and they are devastating. with their specials and combo finishers they attack repeatedly.

I just run up and stab them to death stabbing them like 2-3 times per second - or so.

Pretty cool.

I made a night elf rogue so I can be more stealth. Its cool how you can almost disapear with the rogue so u can rest

I had a level 50 rogue in EQ when the level cap was 50

I've contracted the nasty habit to jump in the air with monsters if they're taller than me, I'm just a tiny dwarf and I want to hit them in the head with my hammer.

It does'nt take 20 hours to get 8 levels, especially not the first 8 levels for sure. In 20 hours i could get any class to 10+ easy.

Leveling Speed for WoW

Yea with the rogue I leveld up to level 6 in an hour. But the rogue is an assasin he doesn't waste any time killing you.

But with the priest it takes much longer, even though I was learning becuase I only had WoW 1 day.- but I found it more memorable and fun experience to use the priest.

Sounds like your finally having fun, keep grouping, you kill quicker, get more exp and more drops to sell or wear/use... and ofcourse in groups its more fun, watching each others back and taking out people/mobs higher level than you in pvp/pve.

Such an excellent game :D

Actually after reading what you said I made a rogue and tried evading some Enemies.

If you back up right as they begin a swing at you, you may have time to back out of the way.. depending on the Enemies speed of swing (sword, etc.)

I was using a rogue though. I think I read in the instructions that they move faster. -In combat at least it seems. I know they are great at low levels.

I think the fighting could be better. It's still a really great game to play. After spending 80$ for 3 months of it. Im going to play it alot for 3 months. Then I may look into Everquest II [EQ2].

I may just need to get used to it. Its not everquest. Its WoW.
Lets see how my opinions change over the course of 3 months.

In WoW you can use a spell(instant cast) in the middle of an attack(auto attack) and it will cancel the attack and the spell will go. Also the rogue is a good class to start off with, it is like having the game on easy mode.

I never liked being a healer in EQ.

I liked it some in Phantasy Star Online (PSO)

Well I love it in WoW.

There is such a good feeling healing a teamate that got jumped and then peeling the mobs off of her/him.

Priests are great characters - in a team they are the heart, like shamans.

They are also the best duelers in the game, so they aren't pussies like in most other MMORPGs. Like most others though there is a lack of them.

Get in a PvP server wait till 20 thats when the fun begins =D and im a 45 hunter i love him.

Sorry for the double post.

I wanted to say that I like the warrior and the mage alot so far.

The warrior is just fun to use.

The mage has the best looking/sounding projectile and has the highest damage ablilities in the game.

Im still working out what character I want to take to level 60.
