WoW forums new policy outs members

Well, we've had our internet anonymity legally revoked for a few years now. You get used to it.

Trolls are still there, but less frequent.

Blizzard canceling RealID on forums?

Hello everyone,

I'd like to take some time to speak with all of you regarding our desire to make the Blizzard forums a better place for players to discuss our games. We've been constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums.

check out Bashiok's reply to the news of the cancelation of realID

I wonder how many pizzas were ordered to his house

Can't you find Blizzard's employee names just by looking on their website or checking the game credits? I'm sure that guys name was listed somewhere else.

In ye olden days, Bashiok went by MicahW, so it wasn't too much of a stretch anyway.

Wow, I'm actually surprised Blizz backed off of this. I mean... YAY! That's great!

I don't plan on using any of this RealID crap and I hope it doesn't get integrated to some ridiculous level with their games, but at the very least this was the right thing to do.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say,

I'm always entertained by people who think that it is their right to have a game the way they want it. Like if Blizzard decides "hey we don't want you to be anonymous while posting on our forums," that their civil rights and liberties have been violated. They get all up in arms and say "how dare you not allow me to do entirely as I please... I pay you FIFTEEN DOLLARS A MONTH." As though their contribution is significant in some way. If every person who was really so pissed about this quit tomorrow, Blizzard would still have 11 million people playing. Most people who play don't even look at the forums unless something is broken. A fraction of them actually post anything at all.

I have to agree with StarBob about the forum usage though.

Personally the only time I ever used the forums was when something was wrong, mainly when I couldnt log on. And that was just to check to see if anyone else was having the same problem. If they did and I knew it wasnt just me, Id go off and play something else. I used our guild forum more than Blizzard's.

And if I ever wanted to know about something in-game, I just went to one of the many WoW guide/wiki sites to find drop rates and which boss drops x-item etc.

Im not surprised about the RealID being cancelled. It was too far fetched, and they would have had a serious uproar. Look how people are reacting and it hadnt even been implemented yet.

Nah, this isn't a Korean site, and not all sites get your name out in front, some just let only the mods and admins view your name .

Hey, I heard your court system has privacy protection rules in place or something. What's the deal with that?

Yeah, I agree. I think its perfectly fine for people's names to be presented on the internet because it doesn't apply to me.
