The Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act is in the process of being voted on this week. It is being voted on whether or not to permanently extend the moratorium on Internet access taxes and discriminatory electronic commerce taxes. The previously passed act will expire this Friday October 31, 2003.

If it isn't passed then you will be paying tax on access to the internet, sending emails, and such. So pretty much you will be bedning over again while the Governemt gives it to ya.

Cross your fingers...

I keep hearing about this all the time, but could somebody please explain how the f*ck do they plan to go about taxing email?

They won't tax e-mail - they could, but I don't think it would ever happen because it would crush the use of e-mail to a degree and it's become so important to businesses. I think it has a lot more to do with taxing items you purchase on the internet like at Amazon, etc, because for the most part those are tax free.

I am not sure. Maybe somehow your ISP can track when you send an email and tax you for it, and you will just end up paying it with your access bill (which too will be taxed)/

You pay your service provider, therefore it should be free use without tax. I cannot get in trouble all the time @ school passing notes to friends I am sorry, nor can I afford a tax.

This act deals with actually taxing you for internet acces and emails. You are talking about sales tax.

Yeah, but I was sure that it had to do with sales taxes applying on the internet - which they don't except for special situations like when the company is in the same state as you are or something. Whatever, they're not going to start taxing e-mail. At least what right would they have to? THey didn't build the internet as it exists now, and it's not like the postal service or anything.

Well this act was passed before so hopefully it should pass again.
