I'm watching Comedy Central right now, and catch a Final Fantasy VII sequel commercial. I don't remember the full title but it looked interesting.

But one thing is missing.

THE HYPE!

Why isn't this thing plastered all over the place, with fanboys clawing over fat and elderly people to get it?

Did a search and all I came up with was this weak forum. http://www.ff7-doc.com/forums/index.php?showforum=8

I wanna play the Dirge of Cerberus....I've loved Vincents character...need to find out more!

And it sucks. :\

It's a standard run & gun shooter with no substance.

Edit : But, If you're an FF7 buff... I guess it's a rental atleast.

I don't understand what the big deal about FF is.. The SNES games were alright, but that's because turn based combat was basicly all you could do in RPG's, but why do they keep sticking to that god-awful turn based crap, with all the next-gen? I WANT REAL TIME FF FOR FFS.

Well if you would take a look before spewing from your gape, you'd see Dirge of Cerberus is real time. ;)

And it's not even an RPG, it's a 3rd person thing..

Dirge is real-time (but it's hardly even an RPG, so meh). FF 12 is going for a more real-time combat system, similar to what you'd see in MMOs, and apparently it works very nicely. And as someone's mentioned 13 is gonna be real time... but I haven't really looked into that.

Besides which, they've had the ATB system in since... 6? Which means it's only semi-turn based. BESIDES which, it's a preference thing aswell. If real time is the way to go, and turn based is just a relic of the past, why are the Civ games still so popular? When done right, turn based combat can add tactical depth as opposed to being more twitch-based like shooters. IMO both are good directions for RPGs to go in - if done right - but neither should be discarded.

Anyway... about the FFVII franchise, there are a few new games based on it coming out I think. There's a prequel coming for PSP in which you play as a Shinra soldier and build your own squad.

Too bad I don't have a PSP! D:

As far as the Final Fantasy VII cash-ins (or are they meant to be sequels?) go, I'm sitting in a corner with my hands over my ears, shouting "One Winged Angel" and pretending that they're not happening. The game wrapped up all the loose ends. It didn't need continuing.

I know that Dirge at least has SOME RPG elements to it, but yeah, it's predominatly a Third Person Action game. I'll probably rent it, at least.

Apparently Dirge has a decent storyline, though it doesn't expand on the plot so much as deepen the characters. It focuses on Vincent, Yuffie (yay!) and Cait Sith (or Reeve), and explains alot about Vincent's past that wasn't really touched on in VII. That coupled with some decent cinematics (not so sure on this part) and gameplay that was atleast fun and kept me interested would make it worth it for me. If I had a PS2, that is :P

And yeah... no PSP either. But now that I check, the game I was thinking of is actually for mobiles...

It follows the Turks 6 years before the events of VII and you get to assemble your own squad, looks interesting. Oh, but there's another game in development for PSP that follows Zack and Cloud when they were in SOLDIER -
