It's better to get them pulled out than surgically removed before they grow out. They just numb it and pull it out instead of... slicing through your gentle tender flesh. I got mine cut out all 4 at a time, and they bled for about 3 weeks, or maybe I just went insane and started tasting blood all the time. ;( My sister came out of it pretty bad and had to be helped walking around (they have to put you to sleep). My cousin said when she woke up she was asking the doctor for her wisdom teeth back (what the heck?). I was ok with it and was doing normal things right afterwards, but then there was also this time where I got put to sleep for other surgery and tried to kick the doctors when I woke up.. so the sleeping drugs... they do nothing to me!

Anyways.. people that got theirs pulled after they came out: My mom said she had hers pulled around finals week and was ok the next day. Actually, I was sitting in my dorm room one afternoon and my roommate comes in and says, "Hey I just got my wisdom tooth pulled out," and I'm like "Oh ok. Wait.. what?" I think she was fine the next day.

All my friends that had their's pulled had to stay home and 'recover.' I personally cannot see it that painful. 4 teeth getting yanked out while you are asleep. It doesn't make sense. Of course mine haven't come in yet so I wouldn't know, but I think some people just fake it.

If they're yanked out it also hurts the gum and nerve.

I had mine surgically removed early June. I was fine and didn't need the percocet they prescribed after a week.

I had most of them left and the past 2 weeks I used them all to get high.

They'll put you under and surgically take them out if they're still in the gum, do it as soon as possible so you don't damage the nerve.

My sister has some "problem" where hers will never grow. Mind you, she is missing some back molars too. Me 1 Her 0.

EDIT: She also needs braces. Hahaha. Me 2 Her 0.

It's not during the operation that hurts, it's the week/week and a half afterwards.

Dude are you stupid? Mind you I misused the painkillers I had left but for a week afterwords I DID need them, and I was planning on saving them all and using them for fun- reality changed that plan fast.

When yours need to be taken out tell me that when your face is swollen up twice as big as normal .

edit: They're surgically removed from up in your gums by your sinus and down in your jaw, they're not yanked out unless you let them grow all the way out (which defeats the purpose of having them removed unless you're getting braces afterwords)

I'm getting my 3 wisdom teeth removed tuesday, the 2 top ones and I only have one on my lower jaw. Gah, not looking forward to this AT ALL. The one on the lower jaw is impacted at a 90 degree angle.

I got mine out in June because they were about to poke through the surface and I'm 17.

Well, I meant that I was only a year or two younger than Ennui...

Pussy :frown:

MAN UP! GROW A SET!

I've got 9 teeth on each side of the top part of my jaw, rather than the standard 8. Haven't had them pulled as I haven't had much trouble (except for a couple of minor infections caused by them).

I'm special.

Standard 8? I have 7 on each half side of my mouth!

I R ALIENZ!

I got my wisdom teeth removed a couple of years ago.Mine didn't hurt at all. The surgery was over before I knew it began, and I just sort of went home and after a day or two was back to normal. My sister, on the other hand was in extreme pain for like a month, and the surgery was done improperly, which gave her an infection that doctors say she will have for the rest of her life.

wtf?

My EXTREME swelling didn't even go down for three days, and then after that I was still occasionally bleeding/in pain for a week afterwords.

Where are the wisdom teeth growing? Top or bottom?

Wisdom teeth can come early or they can come into your 20's. I had one come in when I was 22. It didn't bother me at all but it got a cavity. I guess I didn't brush well enough back there. lol
Kill two birds with one stone and had it removed. It was in the top so it wasn't as bad. Healed pretty fast and I didn't have to worry about food falling in the hole. If you get a bottom one and have it pulled they bleed a lot more.

All they did was stick me with a needle in the gum a few times. I was numb and then they pulled it out. No mess, no pain.

Comming in on the top left.

:(

It's getting really painful when I eat now. I bit into a piece of chicken today, and the breading was enough to scrape the gum.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Damn this tread, it reminded me of my appointment of getting them pulled next week. Shait.

I had a tooth pulled last year, the worst part is when the dentists pwns your gums with like 3 needles... ENJOY SINKO. This is not an option.

Mine were fairly exposed and in an excellent position. They simply sliced each tooth into four pieces and removed them, they didn't even have to slice into the gum or anything like that. The only thing for me was that ocasionally food would get caught in the sockets, which could be painful.
