X3 Reunion - Big and beautiful

LOL!
The "X" space games are FAR HARDER and more complex than Freelancer.:)
In terms of complexity and pwnage, Freelancer is a slingshot and X3 a huge ****ing railgun.:p
Freelancer was pretty cool. It's very calm to play, since you can do things whenever you want, and the enviroment (space) is very open. The missions werent cool though.

What does "X" have thats better?

Far larger universe, far more ability to do whatever you want, you can really do pretty much whatever you want.
Want to BUILD YOUR OWN SPACE STATION EMPIRE?
You can do that!
Want to have your OWN FRIGGIN' 1337-KILLER ARMADA?
You can have that!:D
And alot more.:)
It's overally alot more open-ended than Freelancer.

It's also a lot more in-depth than Freelancer.

and much much prettier

hooolly crap..so many freaking controls I dont know how to even control the ship. graphics look great, but Im getting some stutter on my 6800 GT on max settings.

You may need more ram, the texture loading stuttering eases off after a few minutes, more memory helps lots.
and yeah, the amount of controls is daunting at first, but you get used to the core controls pretty quick, I haven't used even half of them yet but you learn to get by.

Is it possible to run around without a ship in X? Because thats the only thing that freelancer really missed. Ability to run around on single player missions with a gun, and more open when you're not in space.

There should be a game thats like GTA (the openness on ground) combined with X. That would be the shit.

you can leave your ship and be a space man in a suit but there's no shooting and stuff .. you won't really get anywhere without a space ship :s

it locked up on me when I docked at a station...right when my mouse was over the save game button..ridiculous

I have the latest patch, and CR0M I have 1.5 gig of RAM, thats way more than enough.

I havent really noticed ANY problems thus far since reformatting my computer. Maybe 3 or 4 crashes spaced far apart, after i've been saving and loading alot.

wow, this game look REALLY awesome. I loved evNova and it's offshoots, although I never played X2.

one question, does the cd protection software (I think it's starforce) interfere with your system at all?

I'm definetly gonna be looking at the store for this one.

Ummm. *I* havent noticed any problems with it yet. Except that I cant make a backup of my CD, which sucks.

I don't really have a problem with that, as long as it's nothing where your cd/dvd drives stop working until you uninstally ALL backup progs and virtual drives etc.. That pisses me off when the game installs a hidden driver.

anyways, I hope I'll be able to get decent frames on my machine
9800pro
1 gb 3200 ram
amd xp 2700 +

axyon, have you noticed any ill affects from the starforce protection system?

None at all. Daemon Tools etc. still work, and there hasn't been any adverse performance issues.

well, that's a major relief on my part

now, I just need to get to the store somehow :p

Wow, I just got this and it's really awesome. Basically, it's EV Nova in 3d with more trading options. It seems like there's less systems, but that's really understandable since they're 3d and more populated than most of ev's were. I just started a new game for the second time now that I know how flying and trading, fighting, etc works now. I can already tell that this'll last quite awhile.

As for performance, I'm running it at 1280x1024, aa, no af, and medium shaders and textures and it has decent performance, slows a bit during dogfights with lots of people, and while at 10x SETA. That is with my 9800pro, 1gb ram, and amd xp 2700+

Woot! :D

woot, tell me about it, my computer hasn't entirely arrived yet D:

I really should get into this game, but I don't have the time and when i try to do anything i get stuck :(

on?

Right now in the game, I'm trying to work up the argon rep to buy a nova fighter D:

I just can't seem any trade going... I find the odd job transporting some guy to random space stations.
I tried the default story mode then i got stuck at the pirate space station...
I just wanna get some big ass ship and do a load of trading/mining and what not.

I've only played X2, but trading should still be the same. Trading is just buying stuff cheap, then selling it for more. So go to a solar power plant then buy as much Energy Cells as you can, then fly to another area and sell them for more.

I know... I just couldn't get the hang of it or find anywhere that'd buy the stuff :(

hunting pirates is fun too

buy the license, then you'll get money for doing it :)

+reputation as well

Hoping I will get this game for Christmas. It sounds really cool.

Yeah, if I see any pirates in any sectors i go shoot them down to get my Rep. up.
Though, I might start a campain where i'll pirate. Always liked the idea of space pirates! :D

You gotta help me. I'm playing X3, and I can't buy energy cells ANYWHERE. I need them to do the mission where I use my jump drive to chase the Talon who stole the rock. I try to buy one, it says "Resource is not sold" at EVERY space station I've been to :(. HEELLPP

From my experience you can only get them at solar power stations

OMFG THANK YOU!! I had no idea you could buy from those. Dude, you have absolutly no idea how happy I am that someone answered it for me. I spent at least 4 hours on this mission, because I couldn't buy any energy cells.

You have no idea how excited I am.

Ok I don't understand this. How do I get to the options menu where I can change settings like bumpmaps, shadows, subtitles and fully remap my keys? I tried going to enter>options>graphics and it only comes up with four things, none of which are the the ones I want. Same with the game options. And the contols menu only has very limited options, I can't rebind things like the key for launching missiles. I know there are more options, the manual even mentions them.

You can’t really change any of them, only the texture quality and shader quality and AA and AF settings. Subtitles can be turned on in the game play panel.

You can rebind almost anything like fire missiles. You go to the controls menu and under the second tab I think you can rebind how to fire missiles, it is all the way down near the bottom though.

I've played tons of X, a bit of X2, and no X3. So someone answer this for me->

I'm as into trading as I am to combat. And and everything I've read says you can trade, fight, explore, etc etc. Just as in the others. However, is it possible to just buy a low level fighter, and pick on random weaklings and build up from there? Must you trade? Is it completely required? I mean, obviously, you can sell loot. But what I really want from this game... is to be a pirate.

Yep. In fact that's kinda how i started, with just a fighter. To make cash quick, pick any race, fly to their sectors and scout for transport ships. Then all you gotta do is fire on them 'til their shields go down, a little more to nibble away at the hull and eventually they'll abandon their ship (by ejecting). Then all you need to do is capture the empty ship and sell off it's booty or the ship itself or both!! All you need now is your eye patch and a parrot - Ahaaar me mateeeey!!

I haven't played 1.0-1.2, but 1.3 runs really well on my X800.

btw, where is the tutorial? I looked under simulator and the only thing available is a combat simulation.

This games singleplayer kinda..yuks. But I have nothing else to do but to play it so I can learn! This game is tuff.

I only played for 10 minutes or so since I had other stuff to do. The new mouse interface is better, but you still have to memorise all the keys that brings up the stuff to click on which is annoying.

Eve Online's interface + X3's game = best space game ever.
