X3 Reunion - Big and beautiful

Sorry to dig up an old post, I was going to start an X3 thread and saw this one.

Does anyone still play this game? I just got it and can't put it down. I started a game as a merchant with the storyline disabled. I made about 550,000 credits and then bought a wheat farm. Now I have about 17,000 after a filling up the station with E-cells.

Does anyone know how long a well placed station takes to start turning a profit? Does anyone have any other good money making ideas I might be able to borrow? Was I stupid to invest in a factory so early?

I tried to spend that money on a buster since all I had was a transporter and a scout Discoverer. It didn't really work out and I reloaded and went with the factory. Should I have been a little more patient? I guess I have tons of questions, but I'll hold off unless someone is still playing.

Im going to go ahead and get this, I like space games but the good ones are very rare.

I've not noticed any bugs, but I tried playing this game, and it's for smart people..people NOT like me :(

I stopped playing for a bit until I get a better computer I think. It lags like shit in battles for me. I'm depressed. ;(

I havn't played since I got my gig of ram, I figured it woulda helped a bit though..
I really never had too many troubles with frame loss..just not being able to do anything..the story seems a little..lacking.

"THE COCK ARE ATTACKING!"

I can't remember how to spell them really...kha-ak or something, but still hillarious.

Random Off topicness - Heh, I always thought that X2 was an X-Men 2 : X-Men United game. x.x

I haven't run into any bugs as of right now. I guess I do get a random CTD every once in a while, but nothing showstopping. I went straight to the 1.3 patch I think it was. Performance is good enough. I can imagine that towards the endgame it might be poorer in performance. So far so good though.

Up to now, after only playing for a few days, I have a Mercury, Discoverer, Iguana and a Toucan. I have one Wheat factory with about 100K and another 200K on me.

I don't know if I should save my money for a loaded Buster and try to fight with that or if I should get another factory to make more money first, then buy a fighter better than a buster. I was hoping someone would have some advice, but if not, no biggie. Is a buster going to be good enough to do some low level, early game fighting?

Is there any multiplayer in it? If a game like this had multiplayer, it'd be the greatest online game ever.

No multiplayer..it would be like a weird MMO..lol

I need to find out how you people who played for 2 days are getting all this shit, and I've played for a week, and still can't get pasted some simple missions. D:

For me personally I started off as a humble merchant with the story line disabled. They give you a Mercury cargo ship and a Discoverer scout ship. I commanded my cargo ship at first. I started in Herron's Nebula and started doing trading within the sector. For example I'd check the price of silicon wafers and if they were 500 credits I'd buy as many as possible and then sell them to a station that would buy them for more. Good buying prices for things would be:

12-15 Energy
28-32 Wheat
50 Ore
<600 Silicon

Buying those staples for those prices can easily fetch you a profit. Do this for a while until you build up some cash. With the first bit of cash I bought Trading Extensions and Trade MK1 and MK2 software for my cargo ship. This lets you fly your Discoverer Scout ship and explore while you point and click and tell your cargo ship where to go and what to trade. Then save more cash.

Then after some exploring and money saving, I bought a Wheat Farm and put it in House of Light. Interestingly enough there are over 12 ships that are abandoned throughout the galaxy that you can take to use for yourself or to sell. I found two of the cargo ships and used them to buy and sell goods for my factory.

Tonight I'm going to go out and try to claim an abandoned fighter so I can start doing some combat and making even more money. This is all after about 4 days I guess now. I have about 100K in my factory and about 200K in my pocket.

I was overwhelmed at first, but I feel like I'm slowly finding my way. It's insanely addicting and can't wait to get home to play some more.
