Post your opinions/ experiences on x800 modding here, I want some reference before I get it done.

thats flashing the bios.

Basically giving an x800pro an x800xt's programming. You would have to download a new bios and boot into dos to copy it. I don't know about x800's but some 9800pros have artifact problems when flashed to an xt.

Edit: Do you know if you're x800 can be flashed to an xt? How did you find out? You must use the correct bios or you could mess it up (temporarily, nothing serious). You must also have good cooling. I don't know how good a x800s stock cooler is but I bet it puts out a lot more heat running at XT speeds.

Yes, but only if you have an X800 pro VIVO.

No, you have to do a hardware mod. Basically you have to reconnect a bridge they laser cut to shut off the four pipelines.

Your odds of moding a X800 Pro with VIVO is higher than a typical X800 Pro. However, assuming a X800 Pro with VIVO can automatically be turned into a X800 XT is flawed. Those 4 pipelines were shutdown for a reason, otherwise they probably would have turned that into a X800 XT.

Usually, cards that don't perform as well as they should in testing have four pipelines shut down to improve stability. So if you do physically reconnect the pipelines you may run into problems.

I thought modding it into an XT would be a bios flash, like 9800pro to 9800xt, but I don't know enough about x800's. I forgot about the extra pipelines, yes they would have to be reconnected.

Wait a minute, you also have to do a hardmod on the VIVO? I thought the VIVO could softmod because the VIVO ones already had the bridge connected? I couldn't find the thread I was reading on rage3d that had the softmod stuff in it, but I found a similar one:

Paddy's Guide

That guide there is all you need as long as you have a Pro vivo, i have modded my pro to an xt successfully and just added an arctic cooler from added stability but other than that no problems

the Sapphire X800 Pro VIVO works best i believe. as blah blah blah said, it usually involves nail polish to reconnect the bridge thingy or whatever. if you want, i could get this guy to help you out. hes already softmodded a Sapphire and a GeCube X800 Pro VIVO.

I think the best one was the Gigabyte VIVO, some people I think said that it already had 16 pipelines enabled right out of the box (and yes it was the pro version). And the Gigabyte's I think have almost always had a success.

From my understanding (after taking a look around some other forums), it appears that early X800 Pro's VIVO had the 4 pipelines software disabled. However, newer X800 Pro VIVO have the 4 pipelines laser cut which requries the hardware mod.

As a rule of thumb, you should never call a mod or an overclock a guaranteed success.

Hmm, I don't think its worth the risk since I have a plain ati version... Thanks alot for the help though, it would have taken me a while to find this info out. I love this forum :E
