Annoyingly, there's now going to be two packages at release - even when Microsoft constantly stated that there'd only be one. They weigh in at $299 and $399, the latter gaining the benefit of the 20Gb Hard Drive, a wireless controller, headset, ethernet cable and media remote.

So long as the prices aren't too overblown here in the UK, I think I'll be going for the $399 version.

Even though it's £220 for the higer priced console as a conversion, what's the betting they'll just swap the $ for a £ and sell it for £399?

Well, they've adamantly stated that it won't be the case this time round, but I remain sceptical.

Thanks for the info.

I'll only pay up to £250 for one. Any price above that is ridiculous.

Two different versions is not very good, " buy the new xbox 360 for only 299$ but hey ! pay 100 bucks more to get a cool wireless controller, 20 gb harddrive and a stupid dvd menu controller " is dissapointing.

The price is good in the US but here in Sweden itll be atleast 450-550 USD which is damn much for a console :(

Bill Gates, you are cool but with all your money you damn could afford to give away one 360 to each poor kid like me.
Then everyone would rate you as a god :D

hmm dont plan on getting the xbox360 but if i was i'd get the cheaper version, the extras seem a bit meh for me, wouldnt need them...

The chaper versio nis only around £160? That's a pleasant suprise. Seeing as the PSP is £200, I was expecting the Xbox 360 to be well over £300.

The more expensive version doesn't sound too tempting in my opinion... none of the extras seem enterely essential.

o.o
Waste of money.

Consoles, no matter what they're made from should always be priced at $100.

Greedy bastards.

Meh... Still a waste. >.>
Everything's too pricey nowadays.

I'm no cheap bastard either, If I see something that's worth the money... I'll get it.

But an entertainment device? No thanks.

Uhm, how's that so expensive? That's 3000-4000 SEK, which still is less than what the first XB(Or PS2 for that part) cost at their launch.

Although all in all I'm not ab ig fan of nintenod I really liked hwat they did with teh cube, small size, small price, big performance. I hope they do it with the revolution to.
Anyway if it costs 299/399 in us, with will peobably be 600,- euro's in holland.

I'll probably be getting the $299 version. I could always get a headset and a wireless controller later on. I'll have to see how much money I have saved up when it's released.

I'm just hoping for a drop in HDTV prices over here in Sweden when it releases, or that some store like make a lil "package" so you get like 200-300 USD of the HDTV if you buy it along an 360.

Does anyone know if the XB360 is compatible with an 480i tv-set?
I've heard it'll only be compatible with 480Ps+, and I have 480i.>_<

It's alright, the Xbox 360 is compatible with any TV that uses the same connection method that it allows.

meh, the full package will be around $299 by the following christmas ...I'll wait

Wait?!?! Waiting is for chumps, Stern. You don't want to be a chump right? ;)

meh most xbox360 games will be released on pcs ...so I wont miss much

oh and waiting is good for you ...teaches patience, and you have time to think over how you're going to kill the person making you wait

Well, here's a little more detail on the pricing:

"The Redmond, WA. company will offer a premium system for $399.99 for the North American market, with a 399.99 euro pricing, and 279.99 pounds for Great Britain; and a core set-up for $299.99 in the U.S, a 299.99 euro pricing, with a 209.99 British MSRP."

For IGN's more informative look, click here.

I am very surprised that wireless won't be standard like they kept saying it would be, plus the whole HD thing was such a point of difference and now they are leaving that off too for the magical low price of $299 USD? Tricky devils, but they gotta try to make a buck, so we'll see who bites.

The $399 package is designed for the high-definition gaming era; the other is designed for a no-frills, current-gen set-up
I'm confused, does this mean the basic package is not ready for the new Xbox 360 games? Or does it simply mean that the new-gen games will not run to their fullest?

Taking into account that a memory card ($39.99 U.S./€34.99/£22.99) is required for saving games
So, we need a memory card for Xbox now, even with a 20Gb hard drive?

The basic package comes with an AV cable, which won't allow for 720p/i and 1080i on HD-ready TVs. The premium comes with a component cable, which does support those resolutions.

No, since the $299 version doesn't come with a hard drive, you'll need a memory card to save.

A clever move by Microsoft, seems to me it's more worth the while to get the premium package.

Well, thats my questions answered.

I can see however, a few retailers in the U.K. making up their own 360 bundles, probably with a game chucked in too.

I think I'll wait until January before I get one. :)

one of the reasons i wont be getting an xbox360 anytime soon:

id's Tim Willits on Quake4 for the xbox360:

"And then there’s the fine tuning like auto-assist aim"

I play mostly fps and that's just not acceptable ...I think the next console I buy will be heavily influenced by the types of games on each system. FPS arent cutting it for me on any of the consoles ...I still play fps on my xbox but only co-op with a friend of mine

so in that respect I can wait ...mostly to see what types of games are offered on all the consoles

£300 is my limit, i payed £300 for my PS2 and Xbox on release (i think), well, my mum did anyway :p

It is possible to add a HD later?

I'm interested in seeing how much the storage space will be needed. All the titles released will have to peform on the cheap package - the HD may be a waste of cash.

you think when 360 comes out i could walk down to the game store and tell them to gimme the premium package with av cables seeing at i dont have a hd tv and i dont want to buy a memory card and those wireless controllers better be what they were promising the kind that when the battery runs out you can plug it in and keep playing

Ill buy the one i can afford when it comes, it might be the CORE one but whatever, im just wondering even if im pretty sure myself, the Core one is it exactly the same XBOX i mean the console its exactly the same as in the Premium one and that HD stuff it can be added to the Core one later right ?

I mean the graphics in the Core one wont be worse than it is on the Premium one, all that differs is the HD cable that must be used to get HD quality, and this one can be bought later to the Core one righty ?

EDIT: Also, 299€, Finland has Euros so the price will be just about 299€ not like 399€ for the Core one right, and for the Swededs here, what do you think itll cost in Sweden ? 2900-3000 SEK ?

EDIT 2: Ohh forgot, you can add Wireless controllers to the Core box later ?

Garfield, I do believe the "Core" one will go for approx 3000-3500 and the Premium one for 4000-4500.
I'd also like to know if anyone knows wether we'll be able to buy a HDD for it and such later one.

Otherwise I might be facing one hell of a price tag seeing as a decent HDTV over here is 11,000 SEK, so 11,000+4000=15,000 which converts as almost 2,000 USD!*Cries in horror*

Dastardly move by Mr Gates :flame:

My moneys going to Sony or Nintendo or both so it doesn't both me :naughty:

or you can buy the VGA/DVI cable accessory for $39 and plug it into a monitor.

I'd rather get the cheaper package and buy a memory card. A wireless controller isn't that special.

i think i might actually get an xbox 360. im just sick of pcs and their crashing nd stuff :flame: Consoles are more reliable
