I'll probably be getting the $299 version. I could always get a headset and a wireless controller later on. I'll have to see how much money I have saved up when it's released.

what i dont like is that the if i wanted to just get the 299 version and a 20 gb harddrive it would still be about the same as the 399 version, so it would be a waste to get the 299 and get the 20 gb drive.
i hate microsoft

or you can buy the VGA/DVI cable accessory for $39 and plug it into a monitor.
Oh yeah, it's soooo fun playing widescreen HDTV on a -small- 4:3 computer monitor..
Thanks for the tip anyway.:)

It comes with a wired controller.

I'm still a little confused about the Xbox Live memberships. The Silver membership allows you to chat online, download demos, and other such inconsequential things... Does it also allow you to play your games online? Or is it going to end up as a stupid tease to make you buy the Gold membership?

I was so excited for the 360. Now... not so much.

Silver doesn't let you play online but it's free.

Can we trade in our old XBOX for a new 360? :stare:

I don't really want a 360 but with the shitty PC titles lately my gaming has squandered into nothing. I can afford a 360 but I don't feel like dropping that much money on it. Maybe I can sell some shit. :sniper:

"I'll plug in this.... movie player."
So funny
Xbox 360 looks like something worth to buy, but guys, wait intill the prices drop, you will probably save 30$.

I don't care what anyone says, I think the Xbox 360 looks pretty stylish. I'll probably trade in my old Xbox when the 360 finally comes out.

I'll be getting all the next gen consoles when they're released. Each one has something awesome to offer. :)

I know for sure I won't be buying the day of the release. If I do it will be several months down the line, depending on where PC gaming stands.

A lot of people have been complaining and some people are saying that the Playstation 3 is going to win this next-gen war because of the price even though the Playstation 3 price hasn't even been announced. With all the awesome technology going into the Xbox 360, of course it's going to be expensive.

Good idea. And my Xbox is a crystal one, that should net me, like... Some extra amount of money over a regular Xbox.

The $400 American price point just got slightly better.

Still... Silver membership, that is such BS. Not from a profit standpoint, of course, but I do get to play my PC games online for free, and Internet still costs nearly $40 per month. Xbox Live Gold had better damn well be worth it come November.

Haha funny, lets make an HL2.Net auction :D

WTF? Didn't they say silver lets you play online games as much as you want and gold is there if you want some extra useless features?

If memory serves correct, they were oringally planing silver online play on weekends, but I believe they said that
Silver will be able to allow content updates and dl's...but NO ONLINE PLAY.

Gold offers online play and some more useless features.

I think thats how it worsk anyway.

Just got a text from a mate who's pre-ordered his. He says that UK side we'll be paying £210 for the basic pack and £280 for the premium.

that doesn't sound too bad, it's only £70 more for all the extra stuff.

but it depends how much all that stuff would cost normally.

when is it coming out? cos i cant sell my gamecube before ive played the new legend of zelda :D

As I said earlier, it's not the 360 price I'm worried about, but the HDTVs.:p

whats that all about? is it that the graphics will look rubbish on a normal telly?

Well not rubbish, but they will definitely look better on a HDTV(Or computer monitor), the thing is both my TV and my computer monitor are pretty small, and are 4:3, which means the 360 games might be "squeezed" on both of those.

i see. I think my computer monitor should be ok, its bigger than my tv anyway.

Can i use my 17" Inch PC CRT monitor for 360 or does it have to be an LCD monitor ?

The Hard Drive is £60, a wireless controller from a wired is an extra £8, the headset is £15, the component cables about £15 and the remote is £20 - that makes the Core package (£208) plus all the extras that you get with Premium (£118) which makes £326, meaning the Premium saves you around £46.

Geez, how could I miss the part about the core system NOT being backwards compatible!!! In order to play xbox games on the 360 you need to buy the hard drive, which is $99 anyway, so you'd have to be an idiot to buy the $299 model, which I guess is what they are hoping for. ;)

From the Gamespot article:
"Microsoft has confirmed that the 'Core System' will not be backwards compatible out-of-the-box. In order to play current-generation Xbox games, owners of the bare-bones system will have to purchase the detachable hard drive."

They are only releasing a bare-bones version so that they can say they are launching the 360 at $299. Most of the functionality that they have so loudly touted for the system is NOT included at that price point, however. I wonder how many consumers will get this information or care even if they do?

We'll probably find that this package will be the most widely advertised, yes.

Precisely. For all the bells and whistles that come with the premium pack, I would reckon most parents that will buy the system for their kids Xmas' would just buy the standard pack.

Ha, then when the kiddies get home and try to pop in an xbox game that they loved *gasp* it doesn't work! And they already sold their xbox because they thought they didn't need it anymore! You really have to be educated as a consumer now more than ever!

And how many pre-orders are going to get screwed up between the core and premium buyers? What a potential calamity!

Caveat emptor.

What the hell happened to the wireless internet connectivity out of the box? I could have sworn you wouldn't have to pay for an adapter... $100 for a Wireless adapter is kind of queer... I don't understand this..

but the wireless adapter comes with the advanced package thingy, right?

Wrong.. Only the wireless controller comes with the premium package..
