First let me preface this post with this: all flames will be ignored. If you have a different opinion, that's fine, just state it intelligently and maturely.

I must admit that I am totally shocked by the HL2 delay. I'll also admit that I was one of the thousands ready to hang Fragmaster up by his testicles for being such an arrogant prick (turns out he wasn't).

I am morbidly pissed with Valve... not because they delayed the game, but because of how they handled the delay. This behavior is in stark contrast to how they typically treat their customers, and I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming there MUST be a very profound excuse for Gabe Newell and Doug Lombardi flatout lying to their customers.

Typically when such an event occurs (the lying), it's because a developer is contractually hamstrung by their publisher; but seeing as how Vivendi was apprently in the dark along with the rest of us, I doubt that's the reasoning behind this.

Regardless, this ain't no feather under Valve's hat.

I was much looking forward to new gaming next week, and seeing as how the current crop of PC games just flat out SUCKS, I'm nabbing an Xbox along with ESPN Football and Soul Calibur II. Maybe we'll get a UT2004 demo soon, too ;) .

Just confirms to all of us that Valve just craps on its customers like every other game company out there...

Misleads us, craps on us, then expects us to pay top dollar for the software...

The only thing that would even begin to make us happy is release a demo on te 30th...

While I do share you frustration (I feel like I've been kicked in the nuts after adamantly defending Valve's statements), I wouldn't say they actually "crap" on their customers. This is definately an 'x' in the red column, but I do give them credit for how much time they take replying to fans' emails and such.

They've obviously known about this slip for some time now... and gamers are very accustomed to release date slippage... but they're NOT used to being jerked off about it right up until the expected release date.

This I don't understand. Every single sign points towards the game being delayed and you were surprised?

Anyone who took Valve at their word would be surprised.

bah...there are other things to do than wait for hl2...i just check these boards once or twice a day to see if there's any news and post a few comments.

like you said...play some other games, go outside...whatever

but i'm also a bit shocked...even with the lack of new statements, they never changed from that sep30 date for months and kept reaffirming it. there's still that small smidgen of hope that the game is actually nearing completion and they'll release it via steam on the 30th.

i mean, if the release date statement is false, then the statement that the box and steam versions will be available at the same time can also be false

most of us knew that we wont be seeing hl2 on sept 30 but the fact that valve announced the delay 7 days before the scheduled date after much confrimation that they will make their shipping date is worth getting angry over. go look at the doom3 forums, its been pushed back a couple of times now back into Q1 2004 but at least they informed the ppl of it in advance.

it would be cool just to get a single room, with the minipulator gun, and a few objects... for a free download on sept. 30th

Yes JavaGuy, explain it to me.
They've been saying the game would come out the 30th.
What if they'd really thought this was going to happen?
They wouldn't have been lying then right? Things can change in a shedule you know.

You really think too much of yourself if you think Valve has been lying.

hahaha ain't that the truth, i swear i can just imagine the devs all happy, cuz the biggest competitior just took a blow to the head!

Usually when a patch is dealyed they inform us a few days before it was due. They haven't done anythign different now.

soooo true. I'm still not sure if I'll buy Halo or not.
