If you've got a crap sound card then there is a chance that your sound card will not have a line in (it should have a little icon of a circle with an arrow pointing inwards for line in). You need a line in on your sound card otherwise it will not work through your sound card.

The alternative is to just plug your 360 audio straight into your speakers i.e. take the cable that goes from your sound card to your speakers and unplug it from your speakers and plug in your 306 audio into the socket that is now free on your speakers.
so if you choose to plug it into your sound card's line in, then your computer must be on at the same time in order for it to work?
I connected mine to the "line in" port on my sound card and it works just fine.
so basically i need to use my computer's sound card to reroute the signal to the speakers?
isnt there any other way??
this was already solved....read the above post
tl:dr
quick question
does anyone know what would happen if you connected your 360 via VGA to a monitor and then connected a PC via DVI to that same monitor and turned both on at the same time? could it cause any damage? or would it just not display anything?
reason being, im thinking of buying a new 22 inch widescreen lcd and it would be great to keep them both connected at all times.. although i wouldnt mind using my old monitor for the 360
