Where do I plug in the 2 sound plugs?

"Depending on your audio system you’ll need to either connect the left and right (white and red) audio connectors to the audio input on your monitor, receiver or amplifier. If you have a surround sound system with digital audio input, connect the audio digital output found on the AV connector of Xbox 360 VGA HD AV cable with your system using an optical cable. "

let me know how it goes
i'm gonna be picking one of these up myself

my Monitor doesn't have that D:
neither does my crappy amp.

Im ****ed :(

Ok, first of all Atnema: Your headphone socket is an OUTPUT, you cant output sounds from your 360 into an OUTPUT on your sound card - your sound card will need to have a line in. More than likely your speakers will have stereo jack in (more than likely being used by your output from your sound card in your computer).

B_Man: your Cambridge Soundworks speakers should work (i had some in the past). I'm pretty sure your speakers have a stereo jack in that the adapter supplied with your VGA cable will plug into just fine.

sooo...all I I have to do is plug it in the back of the soundcard?

thx for the help btw.

If you've got a crap sound card then there is a chance that your sound card will not have a line in (it should have a little icon of a circle with an arrow pointing inwards for line in). You need a line in on your sound card otherwise it will not work through your sound card.

The alternative is to just plug your 360 audio straight into your speakers i.e. take the cable that goes from your sound card to your speakers and unplug it from your speakers and plug in your 306 audio into the socket that is now free on your speakers.

so if you choose to plug it into your sound card's line in, then your computer must be on at the same time in order for it to work?

I have a XFi from creative...now all I need is an extension cord.

Nice Atnema.

Yup, which is why I sugest your probably best finding the cable that goes from your sound card to your speakers, taking it out of your speakers and pluging in the 360 sound straight into them.

is anyone using the Intec VGA adapter?

it's like 20 bucks less than the Microsoft one

*update*

ok so i finally bought the VGA cable and hooked it up to my lcd monitor
the picture is great and the sound is what you would expect from a monitor
since i dont use my old pc speakers anymore, i thought i would try and hook them up to the 360 but i need a little help (btw i dont care if im not able to use all 4 speakers... 2 is enough)
this is what im working with:
DSCF0005.jpg

as you can see its got the front and rear inputs, 4 speakers, bass control and ac power
when i hook it up like this:
DSCF0002.jpg

DSCF0001.jpg

i get sound from the front speakers (all i care about) but i cant control the volume (it's VERY loud)
DSCF0004.jpg

when connected to my computer, the white cables above would plug into the front (where the VGA cable is now) and rear inputs.. and the green and black cable plugged into my sound card (front and rear respectively)
but now since the VGA cable is taking up the front input on the sub, i can no longer adjust the speaker volume
DSCF0007.jpg

any suggestions??

I connected mine to the "line in" port on my sound card and it works just fine.

so basically i need to use my computer's sound card to reroute the signal to the speakers?
isnt there any other way??

Would be nice if you had a picture of the VGA cable you are using.

The VGA cord has a seperate sound outputs? What are they RCA?

A cord like that is not amplified.

Plug them into your amplifier, or line in on your sound card, and you are good to go. From what I can tell, you did this, and had to use a RCA to mini-jack adapter. That's fine. In my case, I would plug the RCA left/right plugs directly into my home stereo, and my stereo has various inputs like Video 1, Video 2, CD, tape 1, tape 2, etc. You can use anything like this, but phono is not the same, avoid using the phono input. I don't think I've ever used a phono input. In my experience, it's different - I'm not that old school, but I think it's for a turntable/record player.

It's always best to use line in/line out instead of headphone jack (unless you are using headphones of course) if you have the option.

If you are using a headphone output from your 360, it is slightly amplified, but it should still be OK if that's all you have. Just reduce the output volume of the headphone jack. I don't have a 360 and am not familiar with the wiring. The headphone jack should have a seperate volume control - whether through the 360 operating system or a rotating volume knob. 3/4 volume should be good.

Let me know if you need more help. I've been hooking up various sound systems for 23 years.

BTW I think the X-Fi has a multi-plug. It's a combination mic in, line out or something, and detects what you are trying to use it for. I haven't had one of these yet, but it can make things more difficult to plug into it, if you need more than one use out of it.

hmmm ok thanks for the help
at the moment ive got it plugged into the line in on my sound card and it seems to be working fine
i use the same monitor for my 360 as i do my comp so its kind of awkward having them both on at the same time but im sure i'll get used to it

quick question
does anyone know what would happen if you connected your 360 via VGA to a monitor and then connected a PC via DVI to that same monitor and turned both on at the same time? could it cause any damage? or would it just not display anything?
reason being, im thinking of buying a new 22 inch widescreen lcd and it would be great to keep them both connected at all times.. although i wouldnt mind using my old monitor for the 360

I don't have a DVI monitor, but I have a switcher that supports 2 VGA inputs, and goes to 1 monitor. I also had a VGA adapter for my Dreamcast, and accidentally sent two signals once, and If I remember correctly, if two signals go to the monitor at the same time, it tries to display them both and the result is a mess of scrambly rainbows of whatever you are trying to view. It didn't seem to hurt anything, and didn't damage my monitor that I know of.

In your case, the monitor may only be able to recieve one at a time, I would think the digital would take precedence, but you won't want to do it on purpose, unless of course just to see if it auto-switches to one of them.

There are switchboxes for this, although they aren't as cheap as you might hope.

I have a GE one that I got at WalMart a few years ago, they never carried it again, my guess is that it's not a common item that most consumers would buy.

you can check www.monoprice.com I'll bet they have one. You may also find that Pelican makes something like that for the 360, but not sure. Belkin makes something called the 'flip' I think it's called, and it allows 2 PC's (or a 360) to share the same monitor and speakers, without unpluging stuff. Belkin is way overpriced though. Might check their homepages to find out more. Maybe you can get an alternate brand.

All you really need to do is just don't turn them on both at the same time though, from the sounds of it.

Let me know what you do.

Radio shack should have the long tube one.

There are many different adapters so you can hook it up. I didn't realize that was a problem.

You can do it like the picture above, but I would use a female stereo RCA input to a female stereo 3.5mm jack, because I have one. Less parts. Either way, I don't think it matters for sound quality.

Anyway, I have found that it is crucial to have many types of adapters, plugs, and cords with at least 6' of cord for being able to get all of your electronics hooked up. Nothing worse than not being able to hook up your new toy! :C

BTW, Here are some cheap VGA switchboxes.

Again, I don't think you will need one. With one monitor, you won't be able to use both signals at the same time anyway. You are lucky that your monitor has 2 inputs. So, just don't have them both on at the same time.

The expensive Belkin Flip switches the audio too. Hell, I think it can switch keyboards too, so if you have a USB keyboard, you can use it for your 360. Er - it may only support PS/2 keyboards. They may have a USB keyboard model, you'll have to search.

It will switch all 3 with a touch of a button. So if that is a problem, then maybe you do want to invest in it or something similar. It may be a fair deal after all, if switching 2 or three items with one button is what you need.

Just checked it out. The thing even switches the mouse. This is the model number of the one that supports USB keyboard and mouse as well as stereo and VGA/DVI

Model F1DG102U. It's the one on the right.

awesome, thanks for all your help.. especially all those links
ya i read about the switches on another forum.. in fact some people use it for everything including other peripherals like the mouse and keyboard.. $$$
ive decided that if i do indeed pick up another monitor, i'll just use it for my PC and keep the old one for my 360... and i'll continue to run the sound as i am now

HOW can I actually connect my 5.1 speakers to Xbox 360 through HD VGA cable? Please HELP FAST.
