This is probably a dumb question, but which is better for gaming? I would guess Pro because well...it's pro. I have both XP Pro and Home. Just so hard to choose, lol.

Lol thats kinda odd to have both but anyways install XP Pro because its better. Its kinda like saying which graphics card should I use for Half-Life 2, a 9600 or a 9600 Pro cause I have both. :D

I believe that for games, it dosent really matter too much. But pro is superior for many other, legitimate reasons.

...it's actually nothing like that, because the Pro's memory and core clocks are higher then the non-pro. However, pro versions of OS' obviously dont work the same.

Bad analogy...
o_O

lol I tried but what I was really trying to get at was if you have two things and ones better why not go for the better

I put it this way Pro = People who know what their doing (not new to computers) Home = First time computer buyers :)

Actually.. PRO = HOME. I have PRO installed and it is not different compared to HOME.

I have pro, and it seems more stable to me. My cousin has home edition and his computer seems to crap up a lot more. Could be because of all the p0rno he downloads though.

hahaha, home and pro are IDENTICAL save for some server and obscure business and networking apps that no one uses, plus security crap if 20 people use your computer. Pro also suports dual processors, whoop-de-doo.

Can anyone tell me if Pro supports more than 4GB of RAM? Would like sometime in the future if I get a surplus of cash to build a masterpiece of a computer, running off a server board.

I'd plug them both in! :D. My comp can take 2.

as far as i was told, there are only minor differences between Home and Pro editions.
one of those differences if recall correctly is that Pro comes with Windows Movie Maker whereas the Home edition does not come with it...now thats what i was told, whether its true or not, someone here who owns both (or Home edition, i have Pro btw) can help confirm this.

anyway that is one of the minor differences between the two versions, i can't quite remember the other differences right now.

Don't listen to anyone else, Because THIS guy is exactly right.
I have both, and currently use home edition, mainly cos thats the Legal one (lol) .
I'm also an I.T. support Technician and install more copies of Home than pro, mainly cos home is cheaper, Bigger businesses use Win XP corporate edition, since its Licenced for 1000 computers.
As he has said, pro edition has a few addons for Business users and some additional network stuff.
That is all.
If you want an O'S that supports 64 bit processors, download the 64bit trial version from microsoft (currently time limited for 1 year).

pro also supports dual processors better than home and is more stable HOME = Pro with all the useful netowrking and Professionla stuff TORN out
PRO = 1337 xp with everything in so is more stable due to less bodging!!

I disagree that Pro is more stable than Home.
I've used both over the course of a year, and have seen no difference between both o/s 's when it come to stability.

^ exactly. theres a lot of misinformation in this thread, but the above is correct. IF any OS out of home and pro would go slower for games it would be pro since it has more 'features' the average user doesn't need. this is from the experience of using both on many different machines. its no big deal if you can't run remote desktop server out of the box with home. you can either download a little mod for it or get a VNC.

anyone in real life who needs an os for normal computing/gaming i always recommend winxp home OEM, you can find it for less than $70 in some places online. of course its always easier to convince someone that winxp pro isn't 'faster' than home edition in real life, because if they don't listen to reason, you can bitch slap them. fact is though, if it wasn't so easy to pirate xp PRO, there wouldn't be so many mindless supporters of xp pro. ugh
