You think you've been waiting longer than you have.

Lately, I've been reading alot of things on the boards and in the community about how people have been waiting for hl2 for 4-6 years and how hard it's been. People have been making a big that this has been a huge wait. I just thought that I should point out that the half life community _hasn't_ been waiting for hl2 for 4-6 years. We've been waiting for it for one year and 3 months. Before E3 2003, no one knew that hl2 existed so it's impossible for anyone to have been waiting for it.
Further more we've only been delayed 11 months. There's been a lot of talk in the past couple of days about delays and such ( And I hope that this thread does not go in that direction ). What I want to point out to everyone though is, stop with this pobrecito nonsense. Yes the community has gone through alot and it's been anything far from a smooth ride. But it's important that people don't start sensationalizing "suffering". It leads to more anger, more complaints, and more agnst. I think it's pretty safe to say that no one wants to go into a forum filled with accusations against valve or have a majority of them be negative.

Look on the bright side, our wait is minute compared to doom 3's

But people have been waiting even before Valve announced it. We knew there would be a sequel. :) we're magic.

It was pretty obvious that after the massive success of original Half-Life, there would be a sequel game. We all suspected Valve was working on HL2 even before they officially announced it last year.

So we've been waiting since 1998, not 2003. That's 6 years.

its fruitless to tell people to stop being annoyed by valve. you realize that don't you?

And Doom3 took 11 years since its prequal, and 3 years since its announcment, true they never gave dates, but the wait was no worse, although the game wasnt exactly superb but... nevermind.

Its true that some people are saying they have been waiting 6 years or so, but they didn't have any concrete evidence there was a sequel until e3 2003. I wouldn't call it waiting, but more of unanswered suspicions.

I remember in november of 2002 a really dodgy article was posted in a german magazine claiming valve had licensed the quake 3 engine to make sequals to its popular titles, (some significant leaked rumors in January got people talking) It wasnt till mid march that this appeared in the back of EDGE magazine ... and the rest is history ..

I've been REALLY waiting (thus checking out this and other sites out every day) since E3 2k3. Before that I was waiting, but not that hard ^_^

You should thank god that this isen't dukenuckemforever.com
And I remember when April seemed really far away.

But I don't really care. As long as its good.

i have another cool metaphor for the situation(yeay!)...

we were sleeping. valve woke us up and said in a normal tone of voice, hey just wanted to tell you, halflife2 is being worked on. ok all good, then go back to sleep.

then valve comes into the room, turns on the light and with a bullhorn shouts in our ear: SEP 30TH IS THE DATE IT WILL COME OUT! GET UP , GET DRESSED AND EAT YOUR PANCAKES, YOU!

so we wake up and get ready for it, trying to fight off the sleepiness. the time comes and nothing... we think crap i got up for nothing? as we lumber back toward the bedroom to go to sleep, valve comes running through the hall back toward us with the bullhorn and shouts, THE HOLIDAYS, BIATCH, BE READY. we stumble to the floor in shock.

ok so out of the bedroom and into the party hall to wait for it. that goes by, we head back toward the bedroom to go sleep.. this continues with the supposed april release, summer release, the 1st date of preload, the 2nd date of preload. back and forth back and forth for the whole night.

the people complaining just have had a restless night of no sleep. now the DNF community is in a cryo-chamber, but thats a whole nother story.

Seriously...if you're just sitting and waiting for a game.....you need a hobby.....a real good hobby. (and that hobby does not include waiting for a game. )

i disagree with everything in that first post

yes! dont sit and wait for a game when you can sit and wait for a game while posting on a forum!

yea , i remember when that pic came out, god were we excited!!! :bounce:

i've been waiting since about July last year when my best friend showed me a trailer for it and i was like "What? No way...you're serious?" But the wait is nothing compared to other games.

I remember when i was a modder for OFP, we had to wait about 9 months for the SDK to come out, and then we had to sign contracts and send them to Bohemia Interactive all the way in the Czech Republic until we got given a link and password to download from.

Those were the days...

haha if you think I'm sitting here spending my time waiting for hl2, you are wayyy off.

no doubt, you probably have someone else post with your name to keep you up to date while you have a 'life' right? :)

I've been waiting for HL2 ever since that crowbar magazine ad appeared in a magazine and rumours started up that HL2 would be at E3. I just about freaked. Now, ive been waiting for TF2 since..id say...6-7 years now...yeah thats about right :(

lmao you nurds, your treating the delays like they are some kind of terrorist hijackings. hahahahaha, you sad lonely people........ yeah i'm waiting for half life 2 too. but you are treating it like some kind of political nuisance!%!E and war, and so oN%!

omg people are dying

So we've been waiting since 1998, not 2003. That's 6 years.
That waiting was first appeased with Opposing Force, and later Blue Shift. Blue Shift came out half way through 2001, I believe, so the absolute longest time anyone has had to wait for another HL game is 3 years. And personally, I think if you're waiting for, and getting anxious about, something you don't even know exists, or will ever exist, that's your own fault and your own problem.

Valve haven't kept us waiting long at all. Many games are announced years before their release. We've had a relatively short wait.

computer gaming world printed a tiny blurb about halflife2 being under development back in early 2001. fyi.

6 years for 49.99 candian...the best ever......."leaked" code...delays..the only real comp doom 3 released lovlely game..but won't match HL on its level ect ect ect...i think they leaked it...now ther are million of fans waiting with mods already developped...hardware almost all tweaked and bought....this is a well drawn out [plan...and i'm very impressed.

That would have been speculation, and certainly unofficial.

Besides, to anyone complaining about how long we've waited for HL2, I say this: Would you rather have waited a shorter time, and played a worse game?

I think I disagree with you, I don't think this whole thing has been an elaborate plan, and also, we haven't been waiting for 6 years.

I've been waiting for HL2 since I beat HL1. It was obvious they were gonna make a sequel. Are you saying it is impossible to expect certain things that don't yet exist, when evidence would suggest that they will soon exist?

Granted, I haven't really wanted HL2 until a few months ago, but it's always been partially nagging at my mind.

:cheese: I don't usually flame people like that, it's nice to see someone take it lightly and react positively for a change ;)

Most people around here would probably have started a big flame war at a comment like that.

I have a sense of humour...i like a funny flame..As a matter of fact i'm gonna put your flame in my sig to DISflame any comments to my lame ass typing...That'l be even more funny.

So Thanks for the excellent FLame!
:rolling:

Of course for each person, how long the wait has mattered, is different. I wasn't making a personal statement about how much the wait has meant to me.

I responded with a simple fact. Half-Life came out in 1998, Half-Life 2 is (hopefully) coming out in 2004. So everyone has waited 6 years for a true sequel to the original. That's all I was trying to say.

To state we've only been waiting 1-2 years, isn't true.

If you want to argue that Blue Shift was the last Half-Life game, then it's been 3 years.

If you believe that Codename Gordon is the last Half-Life game then . . . never mind. :p

Your typing doesn't seem bad at all in any of your posts after that first one :)

But back on topic, I have no problem with people saying they've been waiting a long time for HL2, but I do have a problem with it when people who throw insults at Valve use that fact to try to justify their anger. IMO it's GOOD we've had to wait a long time for HL2. It means that plenty of time has gone into perfecting the game, so that it truly lives up to our hopes and dreams of a great sequel. Not that it's really been that long anyway though, if you consider Opposing Force and Blue Shift.

flaming is fun... :)

but yes, you're right, we've been waiting for 5/6 years already, so who cares about another year-delay? ;)

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say :O

On this subject though, I propose a new slogan... Halflife2 "At least it's not Daikatana"

LOL. Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever are the TRUE laughing stocks of the industry. Valve's delays are nothing in comparison.
