Don't some games have some rememorable soundtracks?

My favourite retro one would have to be the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Boss Battle music.

I also love VCPR in Vice City. It has so many classic moments and I can still remember it vividly even though I haven't played the game in years.

Alex: That's not entirely true, Maurice. My campaign also appealed to
the poor... who were too stupid to understand what I'm saying, so I held
up pretty pictures and then I gave out candy bars to appeal to their
most basic instincts.
Alex: Absolutely! Those statistics are interesting, but like all
statistics, they are also irrelevant. Let me give you a better
statistic, Chavez. In 1980, when I was elected and you were, according
to the intelligence gathered on you, a man with no mission. You worked
as a clown at birthday parties, corporate functions, bar mitzvahs, and
go-go bars. You, realizing that you were a hollow man that can only
take on the personality of others, decided to become an actor... And
despite going up for 17 auditions that year, you only got work as a
fluffer in a sex ed. video. Your tax returns show that you earn less
than $2000. Suffering from anxiety, you attended a group therapy for a
year and considered getting a sex change. An idiot liberal felt sorry
for you and now you host your own radio show, write a newspaper column
(that lines my bird cage), you got an ex-wife and an attractive
girlfriend although she's married to your best friend, and you're on top
of the world. So answer me this... Can you really say the years of
living under my administration have been bad for you?

Grim Fandango.

Honorable mention to Curse of Monkey Island for "A Pirate I was Meant To Be"

Vice City Radio and to a lesser extent (way lesser extent) San Andreas Radio.

VCPR wins games, but all the other stations were quite nice as well (except whatsit... i think it was Fever 105. Didn't like that for some reason.)

Now, what i really liked was the Psychonauts soundtrack. Best Soundtrack Ever.

Grim Fandango also rates a great mention.

Final Fantasy VIII (orchestral version) is also suitably epic, if the game was someone... somewhat... weird.

Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Jet Grind Radio, Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 7/8/9, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Warcraft III, Warcraft II.. list goes on

I'll get slaughtered for this, but I think Halo has an awesome soundtrack.

Obviously, it's hard to discount the GTA series for the various radio stations.

Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3, I have all the soundtracks original(From Japan) :>

It does. That's THE ONLY good thing about that game. Too bad the game itself is a washed out pile of poo compered to the epic vibe coming from even the menu music...

Another crap game that had great music was Diekatana, I still have the soundtrack around here somewhere.

Other soundtraks I like: Max Payne 1/2, Painkiller, Tiberian Sun, Unreal Tournament 2004, AvP, NFS and others

Ah yes! That reminds me of C&C2's Hell March.

I love that song. :D

Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill
Final Fantasy VIII
Shadow of the Colossus
Trackmania: Sunrise

GTA Obviously (I WANNA ROCK!), but I loved the Oblivion soundtrack for the ambience. Also I heard the Metroid one's pretty damned good.

And obviously I have the hl2 soundtrack but tbh it's nothing special. I would have liked a track in the vein of Radio Free Zerg on there, just for fun.

Metroid is indeed excellent at setting an atmosphere through it's music.

Otherwise i'm not much of an audiophile when it comes to video games. I like the Sf2 music for each stage, Mario, Zelda and Final Fantasy themes, little ditty chirpy songs from old snes games - loved Goeman The Warrior, Donkey Kong Country and Secret of Mana music. Oh, Halo is very good at setting the mood/pace through its audio - guitars kick in and let's bring it on!

Man, I loved both of the Halo Soundtracks, maybe even more than Half Life 2's. I think the music was really needed to convey emotion in Halo, whereas it was more of a kicker in Half Life. Also, Oblivion's orcastraic (sp?) music, especially the opening song were amazing.

Never saw the big fuss about Vice City's soundtrack. Alot of horrible nasty sounding bands from the 80's (obviously, yes) doesn't really appeal to me, so I used my custom soundtrack and listened to some superior music.

I liked HL2's alot, and I wish I could get hold of it some how. Some of the 'chase' music was excellent.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

C&C: **** YEAH!

All Westwood music was good. Tiberium Wars has shithouse music.

The Dig
The Secret of Monley Island
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Baldur's Gate
Dragon Warrior
Riven
Oblivion
Final Fantasy XII

That's some serious ****ing fail. (n)

Probably Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7, and Half-Life2 had some really good songs.

Holy crap, I totally forgot about Red Alert's soundtrack. I actually have Hell March One and Two on my iPod. I had the soundtrack on a CD that came with one of the first editions of RA1.

Halo's soundtracks were disgustingly bad, IMO.

You can get it if you have HL2 installed. Look up GFScape for an extract program, and then search the game's content. I've got some of the music on my iPod, like "Song 29" (a sweet techno song played when fleeing from Metro Cops through the train station, and when turning off the thumpers bordering Nova Prospekt). It actually sounds really good on a system. :)

Ah yes, Song 29 (or CP Violation) is a really good song, and its remix isnt half bad either.

BTW I'm questioning the legality of the site Jimbo posted...

EDIT: lei, I uninstalled HL2 awhile back, but damnit do I want that soundtrack. I love that tune your talking about. :(

That's some serious ****ing fail. (n)

I hated it. :p If it ain't thrash or hardcore punk (Slayer, who were on one of the stations don't count as I really don't like them) then it's just garbage 80's music. I mean, Guns N' Roses. I pretty much drove my car into the sea when they would come on.

I've heard of a remix, but I've never listened to it. Is there a link, or is that illegal?

The Jet Grind Radio/Jet Set Radio Future soundtracks.

:) I first heard Scapegoat Wax - Aisle 10 while playing JSRF. It always gets played in the wee hours when a party is starting to fizzle out.

Well, I got a remix version by some not so resonable method. I havent seen it on a website yet...

In any case the song is called CP Violation (Remix), and some people put the artist down as Kelly Bailey. Good luck finding it.

GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, Medal of Honor: Frontline, Half-Life 2, DoD/DoD:S Menu Music, Sourceforts Menu Music

Zomg no one mentioned Hitman?! The series' soundtrack is so freaking awesome... thank Jesper Kyd.

What were you listening to? There was no Guns N Roses. :|

Fallout with Homeworld ex aequo.

EDIT:

TheAntipop, commit suicide by shooting yourself in the head for the benefit of all humanity. :p

Hmm, I must be thinking of San Andreas then. Guns n Roses, most hard rock from the 80's... easy mistake to make, given how dull and repetitive they all are. Either way, I still had the urge to drive my car into a brick wall until it caught fire when they came on.

Looking through the Vice City playlist, there was one good song, and that was Madhouse by Anthrax. And there was a Yes song, buy not a very good one. But looking through the rest of the playlists makes me want to stab out my eyes.
