Let us remember good times in anticipation of half life 2 :)
My greatest moment was about 2 minutes ago when I discovered that right after the resanance cascade, you can crowbar open the front door, I just find the guys death behind it hillarious for some reason.. mostly because it's Gordon's fault :p
post yer greatest half life moments!

OK, when you go into the missile silo, my first memorable moment is the enourmous giant green thing and the noise it makes tapping on the walkway. The best ever.

The second is that one place in the vent where there's a small dip with a headcrab in it and you just reach the edge and it jumps on you. I FRICKING HATE THAT. I CAN NEVER NOT BE SURPRISED BY IT. I love it.

you too huh, not to mention the one at the end of the cliff face area in the pipe.

yeah, headcrabs are the most surprising of all the enemies in da game, I see nihilanth (sp? :p) and I'm not 2 surprised... but a headcrab jumps out at me and I crap my pants.

Yeah same here those headcrabs just jump out at you un expectedly  :sniper: :bounce:

I clearly remember 2 things about HL. First is in the later part of the game. You crawl around inside an airduct with some soldiers below. They hear you or something & start firing on the airduct, punching lots of holes in it where light lights up the dust sort of. Looked amazing at the time.

Second thing is when you're crawling inside another airduct of some sort. Then a soldier opens it up & throws in a satchel which blows & you have to crawl like really fast to avoid the fire :D That was pretty cool.

Bit where you first meet the soldiers and you think horray im safe. Then he promply kill the scientist there and then tries to kill you. Cheeky devil.
Oh and the bit where you got knoked out and put in the crusher.
And the bits at the start where it goes black and you are suddenly on Xen.
And the bit where the scientist is hanging from a lift until you make your way up to him and then he lets go.
Must be fun thinking of all those ways for scientist to die :D

I remeber when you enter the Coolant facility, where you first aquire the pistol from the dead security guard and theres a scientist bieng pulled up intot he vent and i turned away then all i heard was this squelching noise and turned back around to see blood and guts spouting from the vent,

:E

The map where you scale the side of the mountain with the helicopter attacking.

When you turn on the rocket engine on the hammer guy.
I hated that thing.

i remember that part, only i tried it over like five times until i got it to where i oculd kill the scientist pulling him up before he got pulled in, thereby saving the bototm scientist.

then i would kill him myself.

I think that's what made HL the best, all these little things. They better do that for HL2 otherwise it'll become just another shooter.

Aha wow cool!

Hmm, my favorite?

Well, there were lots of 'em!
When the Ichy jumps up and snatches the scientist.
When the tentacle snatches the scientist.
Speaking of killing scientists, Scientist Slaughter House is a VERY fun mod, I recomend you play it. (The singleplayer)
And when the cieling starts falling in "Forget abut Freeman"

if sven coop counts then my memorable moment has gota be with me and my mate crawling through a pipe. a marine opens a hatch drops some explosives in and shuts the hatch. im trying franticly to run backwards but i cant cus my m8 is right behind me. it explodes and the flames travel through the tunnel...i was trying to leg it and my m8 was trying to walk towards the light to see wat it was v_v

if sven coop dont count its gota be that elivator that breaks down half way and if u dont jump out the window and cling onto the ladder ure in for a fun ride

Mine too, that bit was great! Oh and the whole Office level, mainly because i really didnt enjoy it (the slaves in dark places, and the scary noises that make!!) :imu: :E

the end. purely because of how if you choose not to work for the g-man, he sends you to a room filled with baddies that you could easily take on, but apparently you die. the insult!

If only he didn't take all your weapons, yeah you could take them on. ;)

Headcrabs.. always freaky.

one thing with the three tentacle thing when I realized: hold on a sec. THAT THING CAN HEAR YOU!!

the other was the whole lambda complex thingie. Just loved that sterile swimmingpool look of the reactor complex.

ah gawd, what a game..

For some reason I can't remember half of these things you guys are talking about. Maaybe cause I played it way back in 1998, I think I'll play it again just for fun.

i know this is irrelivent.. but what is this sven coop ? is this some multiplayer coop version of halflife? ie play halflife single player with some1 else?

i loved serious sam multiplayer cuase u could play through the single player with a buddy :> best online game i ever played

the latest sven coop lets you play through single player with a buddy, along with a few other levels that the sven team made up. those toon ones required some seriously wacky designer but is funny as hell to play through ^_^

YES OMG ! thats better than counter strike to me :O

i LOVE coop single/multiplayer games

atm im more excited than i am for hl2 waiting for the mod to dload.

back to subject.. my fav hl1 part must be the part where i meet the soldier guys for the first time. that and the 2 times a headcrab made me shit my pants in the vents

speaking of vents i'l never 4get that vent that has a hole in the top with a fan there...i just remember crawling along then all of a sudden i stand up and see this fan blade come towards my head. i think it killed me about 7 times before i actualy held the crouch button down to crawl past it >_<

My all time favorite was in Opposing Forces. An attack chopper was circling overhead with me scrambling across a courtyard trying desperately to find some cover. I pulled out my rocket launcher and scored a direct hit on the bird but it was still coming after me. I finally spotted a nearby alley and made my way towards it while firing off another rocket. I was pleased to see the chopper erupt in flames after my second rocket found its target, but my satisfaction was shortlived as I realized the chopper's forward momentum was carrying it right towards me, and here I am stuck in this damn alley with no where to run! I turned and ran anyway, and just when I thought it was over, I saw a doorway off the side and ducked into it just as crumbled mass of the chopper slammed into the ground behind me.

This all happened in under 10 seconds, but it was one of the most awesome emergent gaming experiences I've ever had.

The bit where the fire escapes are shutting down and you see Barney near a vent where a zombie pops out of dragging Barney into the vent whilst he repeatedly punches the zombie in the head, hahahaha cracks me up every time.
Also when you come across a wounded Barney at the train level and you can keep hitting him and he won't die, and he says stuff like "You're gonna wish you hadn't done that". Awesome stuff.

Fav Moment : The train ride in and the whole introduction. I don't think I have seen an introduction like it in any other game ever.

he dies if you plant alottt of trapmines on him then throw a grenade :)

i was bored.. what can i say

All the good ones are taken.... :(

The Vent that gets shot up by the soldiers with the light shining through is my personal fav.

I also loved when you walked in the one room with all storage bins and such with the health restorer thing right in front of you. You run to get the precious health then boom! lights go out. you have no clue whats going on then your being draged along by some (apparently not very responsible) soldiers.

The overall atmosphere that the game creates, with all of the little things (see people scripting can be good :)), and the feeling that your one small pawn in a very large game, makes it the massive and truly awsome game that it is.

train ride blew my mind. i have a huge list of other parts that were my favorites, but it would take forever to list them all and im sure id forget some of them. i just hope after HL2 gets released itll take us weeks just to sit here and go back and forth with all the parts that we loved.

hmmmmmmmmm.......
hmmmmmmmm........
hmmmmmmm.........

hmp!

OH I KNOW!!!!!!
The part where I climbed to the way top of the mountain in "Surface Tension" and jumped all the way off!

I was all YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHAAAAAAAAA-SPLATCH!!!

I cannot believe that no one has mentioned the Gargantua part. That was very frantic. You emerge into a parking garage, and a Gargantua comes out of nowhere.
I was running for my life!
You come out only to be stuck in this closed off area, and of course the gigantic gargantua is getting closer and closer.

After climbing a ramp and hearing a message playing on one of the marine radios about "bomb targets" it became apparant that the only way through is to blow that thing up! The next ten minutes was spant running/dodging/hiding/strategising how to align that stupid map grid to destroy this big monster.

Truely edge-of-your-seat entertainment.

The whole "Surface Tension" chapter

The first few times I tried this out to no avail. Sadly, all you had to do was blow up the radio antenna so you can cross the pit, followed by the metal doors.

That pissed me off. I spent all that time taking down one of the greatest threats in my gaming history only to find out that if I knocked down the tower and blew open the doors I would have been fine.

I thought it was neat how the guy who beat Half-Life in about 52 mins did it. Never underestimate the power of satchel charges.

The one part where you fight the Big Momma in Xen, that was pretty intence, I

mean, I was thinking...what the hell is that? A spider? A headcrab? The

"powerful being" i was told to kill?

Probably when I clicked on the .50 in the Half-Life Uplink demo.....ahh that was a great day for me, manning a huge ass gun (first time I played Half-Life BTW, on the PC Gamer disc)

When you see the forklift guy for the first and only time.

On a more serious note, I always liked how you had to defend the scientist who was opening the portal from all the alien controllers and how you got to see what happened afterwards in Opposing Force.
