yea but the thing is the computer i have now is sort of shit and wont be able to play HL2 so i really want something soon. but the EE is suposed to be better then the AMD chip?

I think I remember reading somewhere that HL2 will support 64bit CPU's. In which case the new AMD one is definatly the best decision IMO.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Im almost positive on that also mullinator. Just a few days ago i saw a link to an interview that had the answer...

WEll, there will be, after halflife 2's release, a 64bit port. We have no info/idea on when this will be released.

Since its delayed maybe it will come out at the same time?

/me crosses fingers.

"Release of the 64-bit client will be gated on MS releasing 64-bit Windows."

I would get a "standard" AMD/Intel system and pump it to the max. Save the "left" over money and wait for nex gens video cards. People need ot remember the "benchmark" ratings are MOST times not noticeable to the "human eye". But having the best/fastest is always good bragging rites.

I thought using a 64 bit cpu is not going to give any performance boost on a 32 bit operating system. i would wait till the 64 bit MS longhorn came out before investing in a 64 bit cpu.

Heres a sneak peak of the Prescott. Its an engineering sample.
They didnt put in a P4 EE to compare though.
It looks as though a P4 EE would beat an equally clocked Prescott.

so lets see here

Prescott=better then AMD 64?
EE=not as good as AMD 64?

um no.
P4EE>Prescott>P4 for equal clock speeds
but P4 EE is only for 3.2+3.4ghz while Prescott will go a bit beyond 3.4ghz but not much and not beyond 4ghz. P4EE may not even be available for ordering online. AMD is proudly showing launched Athlon 64 all over their website while Intel's launched P4 EE is no where to be seen on their site. Weird.
