List your top 3 game devs, while providing a reason for your choice.

I will start off.

1. Bioware - Bioware have made on a consistent basis excellent games. Dragon Age and ME 2 are examples of this.

2. Valve - When I list my favorite FPS's, I find that many of them are Valve games.

3. When I thought deeply about it, I realised that this spot has changed quite a bit. It's usually Blizzard.

I don't have a super strong opinion but:
-Valve, Half-life series and TF2 (possibly my favorite FPS definately my favorite online FPS), Portal. < Consistently good. Good customer service through steam

Actually, I'm not a big enough gamer to have favorite developers. Valve is the only one I really like. The others I've just played maybe a couple games each. Blizzard does fantasy really well, Bioware does RPGs REALLY well. That's about all I got.

Lucasarts! Why didn't I think of them? okay, they're my #2.

-Bioware

Never played a Bioware game (that I'm actually aware of) until Mass Effect. It is my favorite game ever.

-Gearbox

Borderlands,Brothers In Arms,Farcry

-Idk about 3rd, maybe Ubisoft?

Love a lot of games that have Ubi's name on it.

Valve, Wandering Samurai Studios, and MekTek.

Valve is the only one im crazy about. Otherwise, I'd say the other spots are a toss up between Epic, Bioware, Relic, Gearbox, or Dice. I liked a lot of now dead developers, like Troika.

Namco. If they announce AC7 for the PS3.

The rest are greedy bastards and don't deserve my love.

Valve
Bioware - Loved every RPG I've played so far.
Old Lucasarts or Looking Glass Studios or old Monolith

I have a love/hate relationship with Blizzard. I was let down with the direction they took War3 and how they hopped on the MMO bandwagon with WoW. Still, I'm buying SC2 on release day.

Capcom
Rockstar

I don't really have a 3rd. But I guess one of these would do:

Nintendo
Sega
Konami
Namco
Bethesda Softworks
SNK
Codemasters

I don't really have any idea what games were actually developed at these companies, so maybe I'm giving credit to the wrong people.

It really was a shame when Troika went under.

If I think of something, that means it means a lot.

Valve
Blizzard
the rest

Valve
id
Epic, though Mark Rein is terrible and I would not ever want to work there.

Saw the thread title and immediately thought "1. Bioware, 2. Valve, 3. Blizzard" then I saw the OP and I got a weird feeling!

- Valve (Obvious reasons, come on)
- pre-360 Rare (Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Banjo Tooie are monuments to my childhood)
- Toss-up between Blizzard (Starcraft and Diablo, couldn't care less about Warcraft), Red Storm (Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon!), and Nintendo (Mario/Zelda/Smash Bros).

Looks like I'm not the only one - almost nobody gave any reason for their choices. The reason for my choices are obviously because I like the games they made. heha

Black isle studios - Planescape alone is enough to go to the first place
Bioware - Always making good games, but now they've taken this more casual road...
Remedy - While Max Payne 1 and 2 were not the best games I still enjoyed them, a lot.

Valve, Bioware, and Nintendo back when they made N64/SNES games.

Ubisoft - Currently playing Assassin's Creed II
Bioware
Valve

EA games. They're people persons. I feel looked after, like they really care about me as a customer.

2   up

Valve, Rare (N64 days) and either IO Interactive (mainly for Freedom Fighters the Hitman games), Rockstar or Nintendo.

1. Valve - definitely my top because of just, well everything. Their games are consistently superb, their community support is, in my opinion, top notch, and just their general attitude seems very positive.

2. I'd probably say Bioware here. They've really come into their own these last few years with Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Bit of a slip up with ME2 in my opinion (not necessarily story-wise, but the 'port' was horrid).

3. Uhm... From Software, for the Armored Core series, up until Armored Core 4 anyway. 1, 2, and 3 were basically my childhood.

1 or 2. Rockstar(GTA games, Bully, Max Payne games)
1 or 2. Valve(HL games, TF2, Portal)
3. Crytek(Far Cry, Crysis, Crysis Warhead)

(not necessarily story-wise, but the 'port' was horrid)

Wait, the port to pc, or from pc to console? I had absolutely no issues with ME2 on pc and it was incredibly well optimized, moreso than any other game ive played in like two years.

1. Nintendo
2. Capcom
3. Rare

Rare used to be no.2, but have gone to shit recently.

Bioware and Valve aren't far off.

Telltale Games
Valve
Gearbox (as long as Colonial Marines gets to see the light of day)

I put port in apostrophe marks because technically it wasn't a port, they had a separate team doing the PC version from the console version. What I mean is that there were aspects (to me) of ME2 that dumbed down parts of ME1 that didn't need dumbing down. Sure, ME1 had problems, and ME2 fixed some of them, but then it's like the team fixed them in a month, but forgot to stop, and ruined some aspects of the gameplay.

The main thing I will say Bioware completely screwed up (in a I-can't-believe-they-managed-to-break-that way) is the mouse-sensitivity/acceleration.

(Old) LucasArts for creating the best adventure games that will ever be
(Old) Black Isle Studios for creating the best RPGs that will ever exist
(Old) Origin Systems for creating the other best RPGs that will ever exist

Honorable Mentions:

(Old) Sierra for making the other best adventure games that will ever exist
(Old) Psygnosis for being amazing on my Amiga 500
(Old) EA when they actually made games like Legacy of the Ancients on my C64!!

Current devs are too numerous to list because there are so many smaller houses and indie devs that deserve mention as a fav of mine, but if I were forced to say any I would say (not necessarily in this order):

1. From Software for making Demon's Souls ('nuff said)
2. Naughty Dog for making the Uncharted series and making my wishes for a good Indiana Jones game come true (even without the license :E)
3. Level-5 for always creating colorful and wonderous worlds for their games, esp. RPGs

Valve
Eidos
Liverpool Studios (former Psygnosis) or Kojima Productions.

BioWare, no need to tell why.
Bethesda Softworks, for doing amazing open worlds the right way.
Frictional Games, for trying to define what horror games should be.

Honorable Mentions:

(Old) Infocom
(Old) LucasArts
(Old) Origin

1. BioWare - They have made some of the best role-playing games, and I really enjoyed the KotOR series. Right now, I'm actually playing one of their newest games, Dragon Age: Origins, which is absolutely great.

2. Valve - What can I say? They've created many popular and famous series, most notably the Half-Life series. Many people also play Team-Fortress 2, which is regularly updated.

3. LucasArts - I greatly enjoyed playing Jedi Knight: Outcast and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Plus, they made Dark Forces.

JO AND JA were made by Raven, published by LucasArts. Dark Forces rocks :)

I tried to like Outcast and Academy, but I can't. Dark Forces series is superior.
