Your weapons

I think he meant the inside.
And TBH I didn't think about FEAR at all during the EP1 ending.

EP1's ending did not remind me of FEAR's ending either.

Okay, I can understand liking EpOne's ending better. What I don't understand is how FEAR ending doesn't even come close to Ep1 ending or how Ep1 shat on FEAR. They are not that different and FEAR did it before EpOne so...I'll better shut up :p

Edit: If you haven't seen F.E.A.R ending you can watch it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNkEn0DEHuM

Holy sh*t that freakin rocked!!! But the very last bit was a bit cliche for horror movies/games...

Going back to topic I actually noticed that Alyx is hanging from a [clicky]bridge[clicky], could that same bridge be the one in the half life gameplay videos? Plus check out this image from the teaser, note the train hanging from the bridge..

Yeah looks like it, although im pretty sure the drop was a lot larger and it was over a river too

Nah, doesn't look like it. I'm rather certain however that it's the same area. I'm seeing the sequence of events like this...

Train ride, actual Citadel explodes after the Core burst and the train is de-railed. You clamber through the wreckage, Alyx falls. Make your way down into the ravine, see Sector 17 forces crossing the bridge in the distance and moving into the wasteland, then you get caught in an antlion stampede.

Things move on from there..

I think you won't play through anything like this, this should happen in an intro.

Intro:
1. Last moments from Ep1, citadel collapsing, train crash, you see Alyx holding for it, losing consciousness, blackout while hearing Alyx's scream.
2. Here the intro could continue with the rest of the story, maybe showing the situation with the other characters (maybe showing G-Man with his X-Files style speech).
Game:
1. Slowly you come back to yourself, and here i'll stop, because i got far too-much ideas, maybe something like this:
- weapons missing (presumed broken in the crash), very little ammo for the rest, you continue alone through the wreckage and the forest (maybe to find Alyx?), encountering the combines still unorganized because of the blast and the local fauna (headcrabs, antlions)...
- you hear the voice of a resistance member, as you open your eyes you see familiar faces, they found you before the bad guys did. They ask for Alyx, you can't answer (as usual), you continue with them to a resistance safehouse or something...
- maybe a mix of the two...

I myself liked the fact that the Citadel didn't collapse, or do anything cliché explosion-wise, but was rather consumed by the dark energy flare ( Am I the only one calling it that? ). I had expected a regular-ish explosion, and it one of the coolest moments in gaming history for me when I was almost shocked of the bright blue wave of energy that was bearing towards me, shifting even the colours around me.

OT, I'm thinking the player will be left with some weapons, but with scarce ammunition, as already stated, although it would be cool if your weapons would be scattered around, even if only a portion could be found.

I agree with you. Collapsing simply wouldn't cut it, and it'd be pretty pointless as well. Calling it the Dark Energy flare sounds rather snazzy, which in turn sounds snazzier than Solar flare. :p

Though considering the Core burst, and that was in the lower levels, I'd expect the rest of the Citadel to go shortly after. Actually, looking at this screenshot:

It's fair to say that the Citadel itself simply...disintegrated.

The core acted like a huge dark energy ball (secondary fire from pulse rifle).

It isn't the same thing. Different materials from the look of it, but the flare may have had the same affect when it consumed the City.

I still look at that screenshot in awe, it would be cool if we actually get to that distance overlooking city 17, see the citadel still barely standing after the dark enery flare, then just for the rest of it just to blow up completely in a great flash of light with a fireball skyhigh, then we see the remains of that screenshot, a very small bit left at the bottom with a massive plume of smoke coming from it.

Is that me or most of the city is still standing?

Just before the explosion in the end of EP1, we clearly saw that the train with Gordon and Alyx left the borders of City 17. And judging from the exlposion from the citadel's core, the most of the city should be simply totaly devastated. All I see in this screenshot are alot of standing undamaged buildings. It looks quite unnatural.

The Dark energy wave at the end of EP1 wasn't an explosion that 'wipes out everything in it's path'.

Right, the immedeate area is definately completely gone, but the rest of City 17 is just bathed in super-deadly radiation. It's possible the explosion will wipe out human tissue or other biological matter but leave the city standing.

Which may be fortunate for the Humans if they want to reoccupy and control it. After all, a city full of people needs a city to live in.

Well the citadel was digging into the ground. Much of it might just have crashed down, pulling the neby houses down with it.
I also have a hard time thinking Alyx will fall down from the bridge. Gordon should be able to help or something else should.

Yeah I believe she does fall from the bridge, however there is water below. I think she falls and most likely dies anyway (since its water there are now tell-tale marks that she has fallen from a great height onto solid ground), the Vorts bring her back to life but she goes into like a coma state, and stays that way until the end of the episode. Gordon must be incapacitated or something, otherwise he would just go and help her. From the vids we have seen, I think thats probably how it will be played out, but Valve being Valve, it will most likely play out in a entirely diffirent way.

I personally think she'll pull herself out of it. Gordon won't be able to intervene, any Deus Ex Machina would just look stupid. Her unconcious state in the videos will be the result of a Slug encounter, or something the G-Man does or something else. Not a fall. She'd look a tad more beaten up if she fell all that way.

ahh yeah, good point

Maybe Gordon can use the Gravity Gun to pull that thing she's hanging from up? Probably wouldn't be strong enough though. Aw the Hell with it.

Well in fairness, between the rebels, the combine, striders, antlions and headcrab infestation, there wasn't too much of a city left to live in before the citadel went boom anyway.

Well yes, that was the impression I got as well, but according to that (possibly placeholding) sky-box, the city is quite healthy. Clearly, Gordon just kept to the bits with rubble in, because Non-Linearity scares him shitless and he needs two walls of impassable rubble alongside him if he is to feel safe.

Oh, yeah, the fuggin G-Man. What's he going to do? Hmmm...

But there's still radiation from the citadel core.

I think a cool new original way to start would be with all your weapons (minus the rocket launcher and bug bait) with a moderate amount of ammo. But as soon as the train crashes, have to fight a lot of bad guys, and by the time the battle is over, you're just about out of ammo once again.

I dont think we lose Alyx at the start of EP2 on the trainwreck. In the vid that shows off the cinematic physics, gordon and alyx (because we can hear her gasp after the aftershock or whatever) are on a road bridge before it collapses.
However in the shot where Alyx is hanging, you can see a loco at the bottom....

Meh.

I'm pretty sure the City will be dozed in radiation.

With Alyx at his side, Gordon must flee a city in chaos before the Citadel's final detonation turns City 17 into a toxic, mutant-infested crater.

Also, I'm pretty sure the City is heavily damaged in that pic. The area nearest the Citadel is completely flattened.

Thankyou very much Samon, my point exactly.

There is easily 95% of the City still visible in that Skybox. And unattributed quotes that use the words "toxic" and "mutants" are pretty low on the evidence heirarchy.

... where did he make a point? :p

...I don't know, but I'm sure he meant to make one, and I'm sure it was the same one that I failed to make.

I think Valve is good at making the half life series on a large scale and getting the story down but when it comes to small things like this that players notice they seem not to give a ****. Maybe they think its not important and got enough on their hands but I would rather have all the small things right then some little extra goodie that I could care less for.

but when it comes to small things like this that players notice they seem not to give a ****
Uhh, what?! You haven't even played the game yet!
Maybe, just maybe, the reason for the decisions Valve took might be clearer after you have played Ep2.
