Aight, so this comes out in less than a week, I've not a clue what to expect, but I am excited... and I think since it is such a unique looking game, it merits it's own thread with opinions and reviews on it.

Even though it may fall through and not be very good, I am super excited to try this out next Tuesday.
Got it for 10 bucks anyways.

All the vids, and some pics

I really can't wait for this game, despite what others think, I think it looks absolutely marvelous.

Been looking forward to this for a while. Looks simply amazing with unique settings / story / character etc to boot.

It's worth the asking price just for the artwork :)

Looks very interesting. I'll wait on some reviews and a steam sale though.

The gameplay just looks a little boring. The rest is fantastic though.

Indeed, the only one I don't know how I feel about is the female companion you have, she seems like she could be a really annoying character.

Can't wait, by far the most unique looking FPS to come out in awhile.

Someone I know who works at valve told me (without regards to his NDA) that this game is a piece of shit, and is not worth buying. He said that they passed around a near-completed build at valve, that they played it, and that the impression was generally very bad.

Cool story, bro. :afro:

Not only is it cool, but it is true.

He said, specifically, that the combat was clunky, the AI was horrendously bad, and that the game was chock-full of bugs. This was a couple of months ago, though.

Wouldn't the AI most likely be based on modified HL2 npc AI? Seeing as they are using the same engine and all it would make sense to use it as a base.

I am fully aware of the good possibility of this being terrible in terms of gameplay, but that is why I took my chances when it was only 10 dollars, and I am most excited to see the art direction.

If it is indeed really bad, I won't be super angry because I didn't spend 40 bucks on it or anything.

Bullshit. Read what Robin Walker (Game Designer at Valve) had to say about the game...

The following text comes from a Steam news post and you can read it HERE

"ACE Team's focus on melee and fighting in a first-person game was a somewhat risky move, but having played the demo of Zeno Clash it appears that their work has really paid off." said Robin Walker, co-creator of Team Fortress and game designer at Valve. "The art in the game is also an incredible part of the experience — they've really achieved something innovative with this title. I look forward to playing the full the game, and whatever they create next."

You can also read the several PREVIEWS of all the press that has had access to the game. (Including Destructoid, Eurogamer and some other very well known gaming sites).

They are EXTREMELY positive and give much praise to the combat system and gameplay in general. Sorry dude... but sounds to me like you just made up your whole story...

Believe what you want, but rest assured I am not making this up. However, my friend may not know what he is talking about. The last he worked at valve was during the final stages of left 4 dead development, so if he played the game at all, it was probably in a rather undeveloped state; and when I asked him about Zeno Clash he thought I was talking about "that weird first-person brawler game that was getting passed around."

I'm hopeful that this will be good. The melee does look like it could get tiresome, but the world just looks so interesting.

The artist(s) had the dream job with this game, since its anything but the same old tired bullshit. Also theotherguy you almost sound like you got a grudge against the game. Like this is a failure right out of the box...either way for me I'll pick this up regardless and maybe some devs will get a clue that everyone is tired of seeing everything as either sci-fi or medieval fantasy. ugh I'm so tired of that...you might be right, and this game may end up being a piece of shit, but hey atleast these guys are trying.

I've decided that even if this game is terrible, I'm going to buy it because of the art. Once I get my paycheck, that is. Like you said mchammer, I'm one of those people who are tired of the same old endlessly-paraded bullshit in games.

The melee combat looks like it could be awesome. The perspective is jarring, but I'm hoping that's only because it's someone else playing.

Doesn't make much sense to argue about it anyways. The game is just around the corner and we'll be seeing the reviews pop-up in a few days.

First person shooters are all the same. This game is trying something different for a few bucks, and this is good for me.

Well crap, sorry guys. I talked to him again today, and got him to describe what he played in more detail to me, and it turns out he was talking about Calamity Fuse.

Everyone has to buy Zeno Clash. Even if the gameplay is bad. If this game fails, we'll probably never see another creative game in this industry again. The way I see it, these guys deserve my $15 for actually trying, which is more than I can say for most of this mediocre-generica "gritty 3rd person shooter with emphasis on cover" bullshit everyone is doing.

Oh my god I just had the coolest idea for a game EVER. So you play as this big burly space marine in an army of big burly space marines right , cept the aliens have kidnapped his daughter so he is on a personal mission to get her back and here's the key gameplay element , right wait for it... EMPHASIS ON COVER! Totally unique right guys? Also did I mention it would have a squid gun as a weapon? I also have two sequels planned and a spin-off planned too so you can expect yearly releases from us!

Sarcasm aside I can totally agree with what your saying. At the very least they are one of the few devs that are experimenting with unique ideas and even then I have a feeling the gameplay will be good , but thats just me talking and maybe I am a little over-hyped.

Not to mention ACE team is made up of some pretty cool guys. They're active on their forums and Steam, and they're all around nice guys. I think there's only like 7 guys working on the game, which is pretty impressive.

I'm going to drop 15 dollars for a pity donation? Or I could buy one of the many incredibly unique and incredibly good games that are on the market for like, 10 bucks.

I'm gunna offer you a pity donation of fists to your face in a minute Corp.

Lol, at big snake penis-

hey, sulk here. whoah, I'm in someone else's post. cool. it's like watching people in their underwear. smells like it to. well, ne way, I didn't put ZT's image in spoiler tags because it offended me or because i somehow objected to the idea of a snake penis. in fact, i'm all for it (and it'd be hypocritical of me, as a student of literature, to say otherwise). i just didn't like the way the screenshot stretched the forum so it was really wide. i hope that's okay with everyone!

One more day. I'll definitely be DLing this before the L4D content.

i pre-ordered this, but can i download this before it releases and then play exactly when it comes out??

A positive review of sorts up on rockpapershotgun. All four recommended it.

John: Does this remind people of films like The Labyrinth and MirrorMask? A series of extraordinary visuals, loosely sewn together as a story.
Kieron: Yeah, a little - but really, much more the French stuff which you haven’t read.
John: Actually, it reminds me more of a Serbian thing that you’ve never even heard of.
Jim: No, it’s like Chinese stuff from a future only I can see.

Great review. This game sounds really good now. Not worried about making the purchase.

LOL wut? @ the story and art direction.

So this is a weird FPS focusing on melee combat?
