Zero Puctuation reviews Batman:Arkham Asylum

I actually like his design. The glove full of fear toxin was an interesting touch. That's really the only different part about him.

I will say he's had better costumes in the past, though.

I am not arguing that it is the best Batman game to date, but in what way does that make it a good game? You could say GTA whatever-the-****-number-they're-up-to-now is the best one out so far, and I could give a ****. It's still garbage. Not saying that Batman is, but being the "best thing so far that is still just okay" is, you know, still just okay.

Are you saying for a fact that Batman:AA is garbage?

No, he said it's "just okay." He's still wrong, but he didn't call it garbage.

What is the scarecrow's challenge mode you speak of?

Gamestop preorder exclusive. It's a challenge map where you have to face wave after wave of skeletons, and one hit kills you. Each successive wave introduces something deadlier into the mix, like skeletons you can't counter who block your hits, or the torchbearers in the third wave who, even touching them, causes you to lose...and so on. It requires all your timing and combat skills to get far, and you're trying to get as many damage multipliers as you can. One slip, and it's over. And when there's a mass of skeletons around you, making you need to flip and counter and throw and use the bat claw and the combo batarang, well...you can see why Yorick hasn't revisited the thread to challenge me on that "press one button to win" load.

Play the game and find out.

Yes, except he didn't want to pay 50 dollars for it, so....

Oh, and I'm bumping this because I agree with Yorick. Vast majority of boss fights suck (end boss fight was horrifyingly retarded), art style is a bit lame (well, maybe not the art style, more the environments and setting itself), and story is rather bleh. I also did not like how it went to focusing on open combat rather than letting you choose how to take people out and making it a more open system.

I'm pretty certain one of the Scarecrow fights is ended with you shining a light on him... and you just... win...

I have to say that after playing the full version for a while, the funniest thing so far, was the challanges from the main menu. Fighting a bunch of guys to get combo points and bonus points for every round was highly addictive. I didn't stop until I got three bat icons (highest ranking).

wat

Also what are you talking about? You can choose how to take people out...that's what variation modifiers are for.

But before that there's sneaking and skulking and flitting to cover and fighting skeletons and causing diversions.

I didn't really pay much attention to this game until I saw that review.

Now I want it. :(

HEY LET ME SLAM MY FACE INTO THE KEYBOARD A FEW MORE TIMES.

I meant that the game tends to force you to go directly fight all your enemies when I'd rather take them out in other ways, but can't.

And Stemot, these things may seem glaringly obvious to you when you post them, but if you just actually said them rather than leaving it open to interpretation it would be a lot easier for me to believe you're not just making it up as you go.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realise I had to specially explain everything I post to the letter in case Sheepo reads it and doesn't immediately come to the expected conclusion. Then again, I would have thought it was obvious that since piracy talk is banned, the only other legal way to play the game apart from forking out full price for it was rental. Silly me. If it really takes that much brain power to figure out my "open to interpretation" posts just stick me on ignore and make us both happy and I won't have to hear any more about your beliefs, hows about that? :p

I honestly thought you hadn't read his post very well. That's the option that's mysteriously missing from your list.

I knows. I meant to put a ;) in my first post, but then I realized it would be less sexy.

Holy shit. I just fiinished the Scarecrow bossfight. Why couln't this bossfight be longer? That was one of the most epic things I've seen in a game in a long time.

There is more than one Scarecrow boss fight :)
