there's an answer to this on www.steampowered.com. i think you close steam, delete clientregistry.blob and restart it, but DON'T quote me on that without checking
i think you'll find steam sucks a lot less if you bother to SEARCH their support pages!
sorry, i think i misunderstood you, what's v:bl? when you say inserted into the command line did you mean you typed it into the console? that wont work. it has to be in launch options (right-click HL2, choose properties->launch options button) or the shortcut (right-click HL2, choose create...
if you get system properties up in the windows control panel, click on advanced, startup and recovery and deselect the 'automatically reboot' option. you'll now get a nice blue screen of death instead of a reboot. won't do anything for your problem, except the error message it gives you might...
yeah, it works from the shortcut if you launch from the shortcut, but if you launch from steam it won't, whereas if you put it in launch options it will work from steam OR the shortcut, that was my point. if you always use the shorcut that's fine, i just find it simpler to put everything in...
i should point out that i'm not having audio problems, i just want to know what the correct settings should be. i'm not really hearing much from the rear speakers. i'm also wondering if i'll get any performance boost from using the medium setting.
and why has editing posts stopped working...
it's better going in launch options because that way it's executed whether you start from steam or from a shortcut. try lowering it slightly, say -heapsize 500000. you didn't type an extra '0' did you? lol
well, the default folder the installer chooses will be C:\Program Files\Sierra\Half Life, but my steam installation is in C:\Valve\Steam. do you mean install it outside the valve tree and steam will find it and move it, or choose to install in C:\valve\steam\steamapps\half life?
should i have audio acceleration set to 'full acceleration' or 'standard acceleration' in the windows control panel, and how does this relate to EAX (which i know next to nothing about)? does it depend on whether i select high or medium sound quality in-game? as you can probably tell, i know...
i have steam installed with HL2/DM. i also own HL Generation which includes OP, CS, and Blue Shift (don't want to call it BS!), and i've already registered the key and the games appear in play games. fine.
what I want to do is install the HL1 pack from the cds and then let steam update it...
didn't take much less than that for me on 512Mb...
any normal game you install off the cd you could play right away, but it would probably be buggy and so you'd still have to download patches at some point. i can't count the posts i've read by idiots complaining about a buggy game who've...
yeah, seems like the stutter's really bad with the FX's, my Ti4600 doesn't stutter no more without autosave on, but the frame rate's pretty crappy -- funny thing is going to 800x600 made no difference, only cutting the detail levels. any suggestions as to what to cut first? i.e. which settings...
that's not nice. disabling autosave helped the stutter for me a lot. type sv_autosave 0 in the console to disable autosave at the start of the level and mark all your autosave.sav and autosave.tga files read-only to disable autosave at the trigger points in the level. you could also try...
