I just installed HL1 and Opposing Force from Steam, but they both suck, because Steam constantly is "connecting to server" whenever the map changes, I get a bunch of lag that I shouldn't, and I can't use the high-def model pack that comes with Blue Shift.
How are you people playing HL1...
Try running HL2 without fraps or other programs running in the background first, and see if your performance is still bad. In-game, you can check your FPS by typing cl_showfps 1 in the console, like I said, or by following dogboy73's suggestion.
With your system you shouldn't have a problem...
They are serious. You just simply can't buy HL:S separately at this time.
I would wait a while, for two reasons:
(1) If and when a fan-made HL conversion is finished and released, it will probably be better than Valve's current HL:S. However, you can't rely on fan-made mods to come out for...
Up until the last page of the guide when it starts getting into console commands and executable arguments, the guide says essentially nothing of use for those of us who already know what all of the in-game options do and how to upgrade our drivers, tweak Windows, etc.
This is not a criticism...
fraps only should affect performance if you are recording a movie.
Regardless, if you only want to benchmark your FPS, instead of running fraps type cl_showfps 1 in the console.
I think he was making a point, just as I was when I told you I am a network administrator. You made such a blanket statement about everyone who can't get Steam to work being "idiots who don't know how to use a PC," that we felt we had to demonstrate our level of aptitude with computers to you.
I don't think it's a matter of getting old. I'm only 23 and I hate all this stuff with a passion.
I think many people are just willing to accept what some of us consider major breaches of our privacy, without questioning it at all. Valve is a very talented game developer, and I have...
What about those of us who simply hate Steam with a passion?
I'm a network administrator, so I doubt that my reason for disliking Steam is that I am "stupid and don't know how to use a PC." I despise it, plain and simple.
Regardless, you are all correct in saying that this petition won't...
The idea is to install the game on a second PC, then connect to your account from that PC only once (to activate the product), and then from that point on, only use offline mode.
Otherwise, if you connect to your account many times from multiple PCs, they might get suspicious, seeing various...
I was expressing sarcasm, but the point is that they can monitor me if they want to, even if they don't actually do this. They're the first company in history that can monitor the playing habits for a single-player, offline game. I don't like it, and you can call me a conspiracy nut all you...
From the link you posted:
"The first-sale doctrine as it relates to computer software is an area of legal confusion. Software publishers claim the first-sale doctrine does not apply because software is licensed, not sold, under the terms of an End User License Agreement (EULA). The courts...
It says in the EULA that you are only allowed to have one copy of the program installed on one computer. That is a fact, not a conspiracy. Read the EULA if you don't believe me. I would quote it, but I am not at the computer on which my copy of HL2 is installed.
As for what Valve will do...
According to the EULA (don't have it in front of me or I'd post a quote), you are only allowed to have one copy of the game installed on one computer at any given time. It's not something you can mess around with either, because the Overwatch will know when you are logging on from other machines.
No, but this is the first game that extensively tracks and monitors the player base (thanks to Steam).
Game developers/publishers want to discourage the aftermarket selling of games as much as possible. Think about it; if my friend can buy my used copy of HL2 for $20 instead of buying a new...
But you are allowed to transfer your license and Steam account to someone else (it's in the EULA). Like I said, you could legally, then, "give" someone your copy.
Furthermore, how the hell would Valve ever know if you sold a copy on eBay? Unless your eBay name is the same as your Steam...
