yes now read that again. Their contract doesn't say it. So they are trying to get a judge to nullify their contract, give them the ip, and FORCE valve to work on hl3 for VUG.
Their complaint is valve had the contrasct changed with sierra to give valve its own ip back and make a second hl2...
Thats the issue, there are no future games VUg has no rights to any future games by valve. Thats why VUg is trying to aquire hl's rights, and to force valve to work on hl3.
Vivendi is trying to catch22 valve out of their IP. So yes i think VUg has done more than jack. Unless you want hl3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 and however much more vu wants to milk the cow done by gearbox i suggest you think about what your saying. I'm not upset about vug saying they can delay for 6...
Rejected, is when your RC has crashes non stop, has serious bugs, flashing textures, cannot be completed because of a game stopping bug, shadows go through objects. Things that totally hinder the game. A rejection of a RC resets the 'testing period clock', otherwise the rc can have content...
The only problem with this is, not all game development teams can just pick a publisher.
The only way to hurt vivendi is to boycott them, and buy through steam only. Their latest earnings report was very, very, bad. They are relyign heavily on HL2, and WoW to pull them out of the red...
Because if it were he wouldnt have said we are sending them the final finished version. That is of course if doug knows what he is talking about. Which one can only hope he does.
feath you are correct and incorrect at the same time. But going into a debate about it would be to quibble over symantics. No first RC is ever accepted, but a perfect first rc, doesnt get rejected, they just usually send it back for minor tweaks, but the testing period doesn't reset. So on a...
The question would be what would other developers do...
Personally i would never buy another game from VUg ever heh.
But this would stop any developer from ever again trying to bring new IP, to VUg for publishing. I don't think VUg is looking at the long term implications of this case to...
yep i will buy from steam too, no CE edition for me sigh. I planned on ordering through steama nd buyign the CE edition seperate. One for each computer but alas, with the route VUg is going on this one I am definatly buying through steam if VUG doesn't open their mouthes soon, with a confirmed...
Stalker is pretty interesting, and will most likely be a candidate for game of the year next year. It all rides on the AI though. Since the whole concept of their game is fundementally built around the ai. So basically success and failue in stalkers terms of being one of the best ever, seems to...
Er thats what this post is about a 2002 lawsuit, and now a 2004 counterclaim that isn't based on anything but legal lies in order to tie up steams release.
shad3r thats a nice read but thats from a different type of testing fully. First its not even a QA rc, publishing house tester but an in-house development bug finder.
Testing a game in-house for the developer and working for a publishing house QA team, that tests only RC's is quite...
actually most developers do say stuff but they don't have 18 million fans behidn them following their every move. Thats why what mostd eveloeprs say about rc's and expected release dates and the likes don't always make front page news. But what valve has done is just the same as most other...
They didn't sierra did. The reason they do now is because of the outside money valve is making on the IP technology, which it seems like VUg now wants a piece in. Sales isn't where the big money comes from its the engine technology liscenses.
Er, you know what I am talking about. By what Doug said it sounds as if the rc wasn't outright rejected due to a game stopping, issue. But only weapon balance issues, or visual bugs. Which would contrive the dx7 path issues fixed in the latest version of cs:s. So to say it was rejected is to...
yes sha3r but you know as well as i know that a final rc is never outright accepted. They tell you to tweak a b c and fix d e f and than your done. You never as a developer say you have a final finished version unless you have been told, its all good expect for a b c d e f.
Thats just a bug, it had to do with bump maps being off. It was also seen by many in cs:s after a later patch. It's a sv cvar bug. All gone now though.
