Fair points all round, I wonder what capacity Valve contracted the maker of BitTorrent. The legal issues of peer to peer commercial sales would be a nightmare but the nature of torrents only being available for upload from a computer which is currently downloading would mean that a connection to...
Sorry in advance for the lengthy post.
I hate forum polls as much as anyone so I'm going to try not to turn this into one but I've got a few thoughts on valve, hl2, steam, etc and I'm interested to see what other people think. I know this question/post is not just related to HL2 but also...
I don't think you'll be far off the mark.
Aa rough guess based on media and time since dev started and the reputaiton and track records of the devs I would have to guess that the order of next gen games coming out in 2004 will be Far cry, doom 3, stalker and then half life 2.
Valve had the...
I don't think you can have too many options however I do think you can try too many new things at once.
Trying a commerce model which has never before used before along with a product delivery route which has never been tried before on top of one of the most technically advanced games of all...
OK i just skipped about 5 pages of this. I just want to clarrify something.
It appears that the stolen code is from september but the leaked beta is from the run up to E3. Why would they have E3 named levels in the FINAL game???
Just wait for the final release and play something else until...
A fine theory bridger but if that were the case I think they would have left the havoc stuff out, unless it's out of date havoc stuff which was put in as a dummy as well.
"Now thats a true case of fear mongering and random speculation right there, People will do what they want man, Personally I feel for valve alot but adding gas to the fire is not helping anybody. I'm sure the People who have downloaded it will only get a buggy game nothing more nothing less."...
Right I think this is complete cobblers and anything else in this post is complete conjecture.
Firstly, how many of the people running this hl2 beta have steam installed for cs etc?
I dare say quite a few. Zone alarm won't send you an alert for anything going through steam since you've...
Why?
I personally don't think it was my***. Whoever has done this has evaded some security and timed their hacking well and pulled off quite a coup to get the code to one of the most anticipated games ever. I Just want to know why do it?
For financial gain? No - you'll get sued into...

I havn't looked at the code but the screenshot that first appeared on these boards had folders for code for various games by the looks of it, one of which was HL2 and one of which has been confirmed as being a seperate stand alone release. Another of them has NOT been confirmed as being a...
The code will only help hax if the game is made to allow code to be hooked into. If they restrict the engine to be unmoddable at present and then enable modding at a later date when things have been changed then hacks shouldn't be a problem.
In short whoever stole the code, presumably with an...
11 days would have been more than enough time.
To back up MarkJ's theory has no-one else noticed that the last two steam updates have had the exact same list of bug fixes in them?
I actually found a text log of the conversation in question by follwing information from a hl2.net forum admin in this thread.
I am going to talk about what was in it now and I apologise if it offends anyone but as far as I can see no-one at hl2.net did anything wrong and there is precious...
I'm in the same boat kawanda. (well if you are on a boat that is).
I know it's been deleted but I'd really like to know what was actually said in the email. Is it going to pass into HL2 history as the post that only 10 people read?
He may not have been fired, devs and software firms quite often play jokes on each other, no reason to assume it's not just some office humour using the website. I mean it's not as if they use the site to post hl2 news is it.....
I wouldn't be surprised if you get a hl2 cd key or something with the card that will allow you to download it via steam when it is released. Just a theory but the box appears to be the same size and shape as the other cards without hl2 in it and the game should be on multiple disks so I doubt...
erm.... You'll be fine with hl for single player but if you want to play cs for more than a fortnight you'd better head over to www.steampowered.com and install steam and the get the latest version of CS through that.
