I think it's well done, and far beyond what we've seen from most people.
Keep it up. I have seen more realistic looking models before, but this is strong work and you should keep moving in that direction.
Have you considered the monetary needs to put this together? Bandwidth alone, plus at least a few high end servers linked together in some kind of farm setup.
Other than that, I worry about the ability of Source to keep up with that many people or the size of the world necessary for this...
The animation triggering isn't going to be your problem
The trouble will be with the lip syncing. All of that is done and contained within the scene files. The last interviews on the topic I believe said that they didn't know if real time sync up would be possible.
I hope this works...
This is a debate that could rage for quite a while.
But the truth of the matter is that people aren't getting up in arms because they actually think anyone's morals have been compromised, they do it because it's the popular thing to bitch about now.

It is incredibly possible. The physics are in place, the graphics engine is light years beyond what we see in sports games. It's just the processing of rules and getting the AI to act properly that would be difficult.
