yeah, but those posts were written in a way so it was obvious that they were just trying to get refferals. here lumbergh (heh) is trying to educate a community on something that looks really cool. heck, i might even try it.
go into add/remove programs and forcibly uninstall the game, if the files have already been deleted, then it will ask you if you want to remove the game from the installed programs list. That should do it. If it does not, then the next step would be to delete the registry keys that reference the...
oooh, that is a really hard one. I've had both and I can say that they are both incredibly useful. Let me ask you a question, which would you rather play, half life 2 single player or counter strike source/ other online games.
if I could only have one, i would probably go with the dsl, just...
perhaps i should reinforce that memory may not be the center of your concerns, perhaps it would be more appropriate to go somewhere else in his computer. I've got a PII with 512mb of ram but i'm not playing games on it... (it's a fileserver) Nex, what does the rest of your computer look like...
fairly recent as in it's not a RIVA128. I'm not concerned for the age of the card. But perhaps we should pursue that a bit. Is the fan on the card (if there is one) still spinning? Is the heatsink covered in dust? how long has this problem been going on?
well. fairly recent card. How old is the monitor? (looks like that's the problem) But i've also seen this happen when the refresh rate is set too high/low. what is it set to currently and what is the model of the monitor?
your slowdown probably isn't due to your ram. Tell me about the rest of the system. what version of windows do you have and how long have you had the pc?
And if I may suggest, there is no reason to be shy of newegg's refurbished section, acutally there's an incredibly good deal on a sapphire 9800pro right now ($156) : http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-281R&type=Refurbish
if you want to measure your video card's performance, then yes, 3dmark is the most common tool for that. But since 3dmark2001 the tests have been based much more on the video card then overall pc performance. Suprisingly enough games these days are based more on video card than overall pc...
Strangely enough, the sp2 beta was quite fine, but when sp2 was officially released I started having problems. I'm with bla, until this is sorted out, steer clear of sp2.
If I may say so, 512 should be sufficent for playing hl2, your main problem will be that outdated video card. Well, maybe not outdated, but lowest common denominator. If you've got 100 bucks, go buy a used 9800 pro or 9700 pro.
your sammy pc2700 aint /that/ bad.
That corsiar certainly is excellent (overpriced IMHO) but keep in mind that if you add another stick of ram that both sticks will have to run at the same speed. So any possibility of extra speed you may get from that hellafast corsair would be canceled out...
upgrade your cup and get a decent video card and you'll be set. Or buy a new computer from me. PM me if you want more info. Honestly, that box isn't /that/ old. The reason you're getting such low fps is the outdated video card.
