    My microphone :(

right click on the speaker icon in your taskbar, or it's in control panel > Sounds and Audio devices. You've probably just got it muted.

    CA Weapon Development

The crosshair rocks. I like it, kinda bulky in the fron though and the butt looks horribly uncomfortable. Aside from that, the front handle still looks off.

    Is an AIW worth it?

unless you seriously plan on doing hardcore video editing and are unhappy with the pci solutions in that realm, I would not suggest picking one up. It's nice, but are you really going to use its extra capabilites?

Getting HL2 thru steam, good/bad idea?

Actually, that idea of splitting the cache into chunks small enough to fit on cds is quite easy. It can be done with almost any archiving tool. (Winace Winrar etc) You just specify what size you want the files to be (ie ~650mb) and burn each portion of the archive to a seperate cd. I think i'm...

    comp parts

Case: I would go for something smaller. Midtower aluminum maybe. But that's just personal preference. Your call here. Ram Heatsinks... Overkill unless you're seriously ocing and overvolting your ram. I'd get the ThermalTake ones.. they come with extra little heatsinks too. Fans: Try to...

    stock fan

There are two white levers, make sure they are no longer applying pressure to the hsf. After you flip these back (relieving the heatsink of pressure) you pry the black tabbed arms back from the retention unit (secured around the cpu) pull these arms up while you pull them back and lather rinse...

Will Your System Run Half-life 2?

I wouldn't try to run a high end video card like that on a 250 watter. Actually, dell (after 2001 or so) have used something very close to ATX standard. So... you may have to play with the cooling setup, but any ATX board /should/ fit in your current case.

Official Overclocking Thread- ALL questions go HERE

is there a 9800 with 128bit memory? I have never seen one. Ever. The answer to your problem is the newegg refub section. It truly is a godsend. I just picked up a 9800pro (first series black pcb) for something like 170. oh, and I have attempted to softmod 4 9800se's (256bit L shaped ram)...

How about a Greg Coomer thread?

Sorry to ask a question that's a tad off tangent, but i'm curious. In the PC Gamer piece on HL2 it was commented that Valve would be working with the US millitary to create a training simulation. How is this going (IE is it going anywhere?) and what are the chances that we (the people) are gonna...

Can you recommend me a nice mousepad?

look up the steelpad. I love mine. Ya gotta get one of the earlier revisions though. The new ones aren't made of steel. Ha.

I was thinking about the following upgrade..

*cough cough* 9800 pro. I know i'm about to get bombarded with X800!!!! and 6800!!!!'s but in your case it might be a good idea to reproportion some of them pounds into other areas of your pc. maybe a little more storage or a bumped up motherboard. The 9800 pro is a solid card and it's hella...

    500$ Pc

Go with an OEM 2500+ and a decent hsf, it'll lenghten the life of the chip and letCHA OC. (those 2500 bartons man...) Aside from that, i'd suggest looking around for a different board. I really like the asus A7N8X-X it's like the full n8x, but with a few less features. Good lookin box. (heh...

What is so hard about getting guns correct in CS?

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I found a great site on firearms. Their page on the Sig P229 is here.

    Socket 940 and Socket 939

Ok, I'M confused, are you saying that 940 can't support ECC? regisetered and ECC are mutually exclusive?

    yes. Rubbing metal is excellent.

    Heatsink up to par?

The barton cores are pretty hot, and your temps seem very representive of the ilk. As was said before, use AS3 or 5, but aside from that, your rig and temps look fine. For comparison, my 2500 @ 3200+ is at 43 idle 52 load with my SLK 800

original HL without a video card?

Are you sure the P4p dlx /has/ onboard video? My suggestion is just to wait so you can set it up properly.

Need help building that computer? Look no more.

Just a suggestion, lest I'm heavily confused, I find it is generally a good idea to mount your cpu, hsf, and ram before putting the motherboard into the case. Especially when you don't have one of those cool cases (ie lian-li) that has a removable motherboard tray.

    My PC!

the increase in performance isn't really worth it IMO. I'd go with the 2800.

    My PC!

Under 70c? woah! I couldn't live with anything above 40! I'm at 34 idle 40 load (prime95) with my old Thermalright SK-7 and a TTsmartfan II. This is on my 1800+ at 2.2ghz (2600+) If those are the temps that retail AMD hsf's are pulling, definitely go with aftermarket.
