Because it's a stress test. de_dust is a small map with low res textures and barely any use of shaders or complex lighting, and the stress test packs as many different shaders effects lighting high res textures and stuff as it can into the thing.
UT2k4 uses the same physics from 2K3, which are bad.
UT2k3 came out at the end of 2002...so what does that have to do with HL2 making sept 30 a YEAR later? Shouldn't you have been 'blown away' by UT2K3 a year earlier?
HL2's optimization is confusing me, Gabe was saying that over 1.7 GHZ or something like that, you wouldn't see a difference, but then they updated the recommended specs to 2.4 ghz?

tires are pretty damn heavy, how can you say that isn't exaggerated.

In the canals part with the flipping cars getting rocket'd before the helicopter part you can see some of the wood is still placeholder HL1 type (same shape peices, bounce a couple times before resting). There was some in the Tunnels bink, but I thought they'd have removed all of it by now.
