when 'objects' are sent over the internet or network, they are first serialized. this means that they're still x y z etc, so no, you don't have to upgrade your network.
hl2 servers will be alot more cpu intensive... so you'll probably need to upgrade from hl1 servers.
gabe has stated that when you get half-life 2 through steam, you will be required to log on in order to play. this means that if you log on, but aren't subscribed anymore, you can't play.
they will most likely lock you in for a certain period of time. not just one month.
plus once you stop paying they aren't going to let you continue playing :\
okay. i'm really more of a software guy (lots of java/c++) and i'm relatively new to the hardware scene. i was afraid the limitations of the motherboard would underclock the ram to 200mhz, which would make running at 1:1 at 250mhz fsb impossible >.<
and you're saying that won't happen?
after wasting about an hour on the phone with the people from asus they can't tell me crap :\
anyways, will i have compatibility issues running my xms corsair 4000 500mhz on that board? the board specifications list supported ram speeds up to 400mhz, but there are no boards that are rated up...
subscription services always offer lower prices the longer you subscribe, but it won't be near 40-50. probably more like $90 if you pay the whole year in advance.
so in other words i'm paying $60-70 extra for a poster and box? negative. valve will find a way to cater to this. imo, they should have the collector's edition come with a six month steam subscription.
hmmm. i guess whoever said that was right. you are subscribing to steam, not half-life 2. in that case, its an extremely good deal.
BUT. i want the collectors edition. i want the poster and the figurine and the art book and everything... but i also want all the free content via steam...
hahaha wtf are you talking about. that's the biggest difference between doom III and half-life 2... it's been mentioned a million times. come on chris_d, you've been here all this time too ;\
i want a poster and a crowbar. and the crowbar should have the valve logo imprinted on it, so when i bash in the heads of my enemies, they too will share the mark.
no shit?
i was contrasting the two. on one hand, i pay $120 a year but get free content. on the other hand, i pay $50, and who knows what valve will charge me for. like i said, it'll be so easy for them to charge for things. patches, maps, etc...
and they WILL charge for silly things...
