whoops forgot to post the original topic. I hope this make's things seem clearer. The point isn't to have NPC's form discrete squads, just to make them aware of each other.
This is a repost of a request I made on hl2coding.com
anyway the topic's here.
I really am wondering how to do the last thing I mentioned.
It seems that teamwork is normally handled with a different entity ( the one for managing City17 Citizen squads) , but do you think this is...
Okay sorry for noobing it up, but how do I run standalone maps in the half-life engine?
Everytime I try to run the .VMF files it says that it can't find either the Steam.dll file or the FileSystem_Steam.dll
I'm also working model entities (specifically NPCs), so could anyone give me some...
The current class for the type of NPC I'm looking at is the CBaseActor, it's what characters like Kleiner and Alyx inherit from.
Oh well then.
On thing I'm noticing is that classes that use A.I. tend to select the specific files they link to.
I.E. A flying thing gets flying A.I...
This is my favorite one.

Could anyone offer any help to those wading through this extremely complex SDK.
right now I'm trying to figure out how to create custom NPCS.
I'll get it eventually I just wonder if you could provide any pointers.
The reason you need to you VC++ is that you must compile the project file as a whole. It's the only way to create the DLL.
Remember the source code in the HL2 SDK is a complete whole. Compiling any individual peice of code does next to nothing, considering all of the libraries it must link...
I think this was just a very simple example of how to make a mod than it is an actual other mode. I mean they obviously have used nothing more than the models/weapons from HL2, and some minimal balance changes.
I love half-life 2, but I don't think that this multiplayer comes close to having...
I most definately agreee.
I mean if you buy the game and pay for it. you get to play. You really have no reason to complain. If it's a steam malfunction, then complain. I live on a colleg campus, and steam verified and decrypted the game in 15 minutes.
If anything this is our fault for...
At the moment, it seems that the SDK is going to be available for more than an FPS game.
Consider the following:
1. If Valve wants to comepete with the modding of the Unreal engine then it must make an incredibly robust SDK
2. The SDK is labeled "SourceSDK", not HL2 SDK
3. None of the...
If you read some of the reveiws the train ride is supposed to be an obvious hint to the train ride of the previous HL, but not as long. I think that, though, there might be other things to build up the atmosphere.
One thing I really hope about (and something that I think will deliver) about...
I think the levels will be made for the X800 chipset.
In all honesty I don't think this is neccessarily a bad thing.
If they optimize the levels for a single card, then you obviously wouldn't need to adjust the settings, yet they'd run great and look good.
Do you need to have Video...
Ductonius does have something going for him.
Recent observations on harmonic magnetic waves in space have shown holes on opposite ends of the universe. The only way to really explain these wholes is to think of the universe as being in a torus ( or donut shape) in the fourth dimension...
