Honestly, I think there is just enough of a twist, with little effects like we saw in the 2004 videos, to retain the somewhat surreal, fun, slant that the first game had. Halflife was never about uber-realism. What makes it so tasty, is the perfect balance of fantasy/weirdness, realism...
Now, if we can only hook each kid to an exercise bike, which charges a generator, and make them pedal in order to play the games, we will solve the worlds energy crisis and improve our educational system in one stroke.
A million or so sperm, all fighting to get to one egg. Ridiculous! Can't they all just join together, and form one, huge, penetrating sperm?
Seriously though, these mods will weed themselves out naturally. I bet only a third or less actually make it to a playable beta version. The good...
You can find a Graphire2 for under 100 bucks. That's the best bet for a beginner. I have a 9x12 and it was 500 bones, 4 years ago. I also have a Graphire2, (4x6?) and it is almost easier to draw with because of the smaller size. Check ebay.
Heh.. the whole evolution of modern man is based upon stumbling upon 'exploits' in nature, science, math..etc. These happy accidents and bugs that people run across, find fun, and push into a whole new style of gameplay are just the sort of things developers should pay attention to. A smart...
Interesting to see a hardcore HLDM player piping up, in this manor. A little too much pride, and ego are gonna give the rest of us a bad image, Stig :P I've been a hardcore hldm player since the beginning, and currently play at the top level of competition in this game (not saying I can...
nice drawing. It takes a while to get used to drawing with a tablet. I find that I started leaning toward a more painterly approach, because getting very nice lines is hard for me, with a pencil; let-alone a tablet.
"Even if HL2 MP is just mindless deathmatch"
I just love it when people say this. Talk to the people who have stuck with HLDM about how mindless it is. There are tactics, sensebilities, reflexes, and an awareness that takes months to develop, and can be honed for years. I don't know about...
Janer - I'm curious about that myself. Most people associate HL multiplayers greatness with CS and other mods, but vanilla HLDM is an excellent game in itself. I've been playing it for about 4 years, and am still learning little tricks and tactics that make the game interesting. The balance...
'Merge Layers' will combine layers in different ways i.e: Merge Linked, will only combine the layer selected, and the layers linked to it. Merge up, will combine selected layer with the layer above it.
'Flatten' simply flattens all layers into 1.
I suggest understanding, and keeping...
Wrong. The creators of that code lose the chance to present it to you in the manor THEY wanted to. They lose control of THEIR product, and the impression it makes on the fans. It's like someone stealing the secrets to a Magicians new act, and offering it to anybody who wants it. Yeah, the...
Uhm..never wrote a rap before.
Back it up, and grip ya gat
Some Russian cat
Stickitty-Stuck-us in the back,

Obviously, the level of awareness, and abstract thought, is directly related to the state of an organism's communication level. Without our advanced lingual system to catagorize what we percieve, we would be left at the state of a dog, or monkey. An apple wouldn't be an 'apple' without the...
In the context of this forum, I think the tutorials are very important. I know I have found alot of great tuts there, and probably wouldn't have if it hadn't been a sticky. I mean who knows, maybe this thread will spark 'young troubled Johnny's' imagination enough to keep him off the streets...
"While that's pretty cool and all, how does that relate to anything Half-Life?"
Ever heard of Halflife's six degrees of seperation? You can link anything in this world to Halflife, with at most, 6 steps.
