i think that i might go with something like this, except with a 9800 xt. I might want to pick up a new case / games, so the the cost of those will add into the total as well. Also, i've got about another month and a half to let the prices drop :)

Remember: they DID run it with everything maxed out. AA and AF are performance hogs, if you ask me.

I got steam...even though i originally had a retail preordered :O . I want a CD, though, so i think that i'm going to burn back-ups of my steam files, and burn a copy of steam. Basically, i'll just have to install steam from the CD, then transfer the gcf's over, and i'll have my copy of half...

Remember, though, a large portion of the Valve team is currently working on the SDK as well. I'm sure that they want that out just as much, or even more, than new maps for CS:S. I have a feeling that once HL2 gets out, along with the SDK, they will be able to spend more time getting other stuff...
