Maybe go to the ATI control panel and adjust it there? I did the same operation, and while my hands were shaking uncontrollably and I was nervous as hell, it worked :D ... Also trying touching the heatsink (there is an of aluminum all the way around that you can touch) or feeling the air coming...
Agreed. I know that, at least for the 9800 series, the 9800 shows up as 9800 pro (i think).
Basically, if it is a pro, then it'll be slightly faster (alot faster when it comes to newer-DX9-games), if not, it may actually be somewhat slower.
Exactimately. I use it every time I update drivers for my 9800P, cause whenever I update it defaults to 1280x1024@60 rather than @75 and the picture is way off center.
Not even, just the plain old 128, more memory is not NEARLY worth the price. Plus you can get them for like $205 online now. The FX 5900 can be had for even less but isn't quite the same performance wise. Those are your two best buys. The 9600 Pro and XT are also pretty good values but with...
I have the EXACT SAME problem, with a Microsoft MN-100 wired base station (router), and Optimum Online. Still looking for answers. Let us know if the new cable works.
The XP 2400+ is somewhat overclockable (I have one), but at this point it's not necessarily worth it (the only thing I could see doing is raising the FSB... for me it's plenty fast as is).
And that 9600 Pro is underclocked for sure. See if you can overclock it (I use powerstrip) to at least...
Those extras at the end are just added on by the manufacturer to make it sound better (as far as I know, some do make a difference, like the Ultimate I believe is fanless). I would just go with the cheapest XT (MAKE SURE it's an XT, not some other cheaper type).
Also keep in mind that the FX...
Of course, things will eventually get that fast. My guess is NVidia gets there first, which means nothing seeing as ATI's cards have been much better clock-for-clock.
You're gonna wanna upgrade the CPU (and therefore, at least most likely, motherboard and memory) as well. Anything like an FX 5900 or Radeon 9800 would create a bottleneck with the rest of your PC. The FX 5900 is great for it's price, and the 9800 Pro is dropping in price, so those are good...
Yep, the gap is huge. On my second computer (1.3 gHz Athlon, GF4Ti4400), I can barely scratch out 800x600 on all low settings, while on my first computer (Athlon XP 2400+, Radeon 9800 Pro) I can do 1280x1024 with max settings and 8x AF (damned AA bug) at a reasonable framerate.
1-You should DEFINETLY dust out your case... Myself, I'm a clean freak when it comes to that stuff :)...
2-Try and boot your PC in safe mode. If that works, check what devices are disabled in device manager, specifically any that involve AGP or your video card. I had this problem when I first...
Check out the Far Cry demo. That thing puts even high end (XP 2400+, 9800 Pro, etc.) through their paces. It looks great as well, and has some of the same physics (wood floats in water, etc.) and features (deformable terrain) as Half-Life 2. What did it for me was first, of course, seeing this...
