Maybe the exploding gateway/teleporter thing will actually teleport her somewhere. Perhaps what Dr. Breen meant when he said it could bring down the Citadel is because the explosion teleports bits of building away.

Yeah, the 9800 XT is not much faster than the 9800 Pro usually and is often pretty much the same. You can try turning down AA (antialiasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) in the options to boost framerate. 4x AA is fine. All the good recent cards are tested on HL2 here...

That the game cannot actually install properly from its own install option must be one of the most ridiculous bugs I've heard of.

Airboat doesn't have turbo as far as I remember, but Gordon's suit does and he can sprint for a very short time.

The Garg. If it can get to you, then you're toast. It moves fairly fast and it also takes some real punishment. For me, the scariest parts of HL1 were when you see the Garg some distance away but you know it's coming to get you...

If by reload you mean reinstall from disc, then there is a very common bug in which you get .cab errors if you don't choose to do a full install that includes Counterstrike: Source.

It doesn't occur to many people to think about saying *spoilers* for a game which is about 5 years old, and I'm one of those people it doesn't occur to. :E If they haven't played it by now, they're very late indeed.

I recommend trying my simpler option first, though. ;)
