Requiem for a Dream: 9/10
This is the most miserably sad movie I have ever seen. It's even more depressing than The Road. It follows a young man, his mother, his friend, and his girlfriend on a miserable journey through drug abuse, poverty, depression, and insanity. Everything for all of the...
Fantastic Mr. Fox
10/10
This is an odd, yet extremely brilliant film. It features a stop-motion animated fox voiced by George Clooney settling down after being a bandit all his life, and helping a set of animals in the neighborhood escape the wiles of a trio of evil farmers, while his son...
Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton version):
-2 / 10
Seriously the worst garbage Burton has ever made (and that is saying A LOT). I never thought I'd say this, but here we have a movie worse than Burton's Willy Wonka! The amount of screen time Depp is given is atrocious. The plot makes no sense...
I take a few of those back. I was playing Cybran vs. Cybran matches (because cybrans are the coolest).
It turns out that UEF has subs, torpedo launchers, bombers, fighters, and T2 artillery, and the Cybrans don't.
Also, experimentals are very weak and small. T3 artillery is weak and you can build hundreds of them on a dime. Fighter/bombers are huge, take like 2 hits to die, and are mostly useless versus AA. The same is true of the gunships. All units except experimentals get completely raped by T1 point...
Played several games today. Here is a list of the things that are missing:
Units:
1. Scouts of all kinds. (Air, land and sea. All gone.)
2. Bombers.
3. Cybran tanks.
4. T3 units.
5. Cruisers.
6. Submarines (with the exception of the kraken)
Structures:
1. T2 point defense.
2. T2 artillery.
3...
Wow. They really ****ed up this series. I am incredibly disappointed.
I only played one game, but here are my thoughts so far:
The good:
It runs much much better. This alone is an achievement. The engine is also superior, with better graphics, better pathfinding, etc. The UI and...
Actually you may be right. Now that I think about it, "achievements" are also arbitrary and pointless, yet people still clamor for them. It could be a purely social motivator. I do think, however, that if a company or government started doing something like this,it would be immediately...
I am acquainted with Jesse Schell personally. He's a professor at the Entertainment Technology Center here at Carnegie Mellon and teaches a game design class targeted at undergrads. He came by a meeting of a club I am involved with last Friday and gave us some advice on game development.
I...
There aren't a lot of schools that offer Game Design, but that isn't to say you can't create your own major.
In general, people will get a major that is applicable to a wide variety of fields in the undergraduate level, and then specialize into a particular field in the graduate level. However...
In my field at my university, 40% of the students speak Chinese fluently, about 20% are foreign students from China, and 50% are at least of Chinese descent.
I have a lot of Chinese friends, and they are decent people, just like everyone else.
There are some odd cultural and political...
He does sound sane, almost rational.
Unfortunately he is dead wrong, and downright evil. Just because he had financial troubles didn't give him the right to kill innocent people. The workers for the IRS in that building were not responsible for his suffering, and even if they were, he would...
Supply and demand.
Refined sugar is processed in huge quantities by efficient machinery and there is a large industrial demand for it. It is somewhat of a bulk good, and that is why it is so cheap.
Unrefined sugar is more of a specialty item sold to a more selective set of consumers by a...
That is actually really interesting.
If Pinocchio's nose grew whenever he made a false statement, it would make him an omniscient oracle he would be able to solve the halting problem, and many other unsolvable mathematical problems
This makes the model of Pinocchio's nose growing whenever...
