nooo, i'm having flash backs... *doom and destruction*

Why would they have to "rebuild" the code? They would still retain a copy of the original code on many machines at Valve I'm sure. And I believe that they code that was stolen was only part of the complete Source engine.

Haha, that made me laugh!
It reminded me of this:
http://www.bash.org/?104052

It's not like they stole it from them... permanently... they copied the code. They didn't delete it :D

EDIT: Oh yeah, what he means by "rebuild the code" was to prevent hacking and/or misuse by exploiting security holes found by looking at the source code.

I think, what he's trying to say is, Gabe knew the game wouldn't hit the 30th. But it was Vivendi's date, and Lombardi stuck by it, just because that was the date Vivendi set.

hmm...when it got near 9/30 of last year, wasn't a representative of Vivendi who was quoted saying something along the lines of "9/30? we don't know anything about it being a release date" wasn't that the place where all the speculation started about the delay?

cause i do remember a rep denying the 9/30 date.

maybe if your lazy ass actually READ the valve only thread, and read the ENDLESS times GABE NEWELL PERSONALLY tells us sept. 30th over 100x...

...seriously, how are you going to argue with half the people here that were around when it happend. like me.

is this kid for real, what a tard

uh, dude...i'm 27. With 2 kids of my own. Your comment makes YOU look like a kid.
I simply asked for a link were Valve sadi that the release was sept 30th. None has provided as such.

If anything, most you the posts in this thread that are not my own show the maturity of the posters by thier answers to my question, which don't even provide the info i requested.

I asked for a link, and a discussion on how the date was changed. C'mon people, it's the anniversary. Please make mature, sensible comments.

Sorry, i you DID provide a link. Thanks. i was just about to edit my post when the one of yours i just quoted, showed up.

Nobody with comments on the events at Shaderday?
i was not asking to be proven wrong. but because of the lack of immaturity of some of the forum members, it seems that this is the only way they will post."HAHA! I'M RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG!" I mean, really, i've been outta adolescence for a while now.

Discussion....not bragging rights.

Well, can you provide us a link to a video/whatever else that you're so concerned over? Unless you already did, in which case I missed it.

I'm not sure why you're looking for something like this? I do believe at the Alcatraz Radeon 9800/9600XT debut event, they mentioned September 30th.

HARDOCP..i did link it....and it has the actual slideshot from Gabe's presentation that says BENCHMARK,not game like i have been saying all along.
someone earlier posted that it was this news that started the news that the date would not be reached.

here it is again:

I'm confused. We have multiple sources backing up that Valve Software intended to release HL2 on September 30, 2003. Yet, you discount all of those in favor of a one source that says otherwise?

Geez. This is fascinating to read because it makes NO SENSE. Please, before we all have aneurysms tell us your point, your point in the face of overwhelming evidence.

because i have GAbe himself, in person, saying that the benchmark was to be released, not the game.

GABE.

nobody, beside neutrino, has provided me with a link...and that was to a forum. That is not offical to me. anyone, almost, can post on a forum.

Here's Gabe's slideshot, taken from HARDOCP, saying benchmark to be released, "to test upcoming hardware and drivers."

Okay, you must have missed it about.. 10 times when I said it:

HL2 was scheduled for September 30th. When we heard the news of the benchmark being released the very same day, MONTHS after we heard about HL2's release date being OFFICIALLY September 30th, it spelled disaster for HL2's release.

There were split topics, some saying "this means HL2 is delayed!" others saying "it's nothing, it's just a benchmark so you can see how HL2 performs before you buy it."

Just because the benchmark was announced for the same day, MONTHS after the initial HL2 release date was announced, does not mean HL2 was never planned for that day.

If you've been following the story at all you would know that Gabe and Valve make almost exclusive use of forums to get news out. Crazy, yes. But that's the way they do things.

again, where's your link.....
i'm not saying your wrong, but you are basing your facts on what? I have provided hard proof of my claims....and if since the shaderday vidoe, things changed, i'd like a link to something that resembles an official statement from valve that reflects that.

I'm basing my claims on me being there..

Anyhow, as for an "official statement," how about the links from this thread from both Lombardi and Newell saying September 30th? Not official enough?

says who..the forums?
an email, that i could easily concoct myself? i mean, CNN has covered the issue... that would almost be official, to me, depending on thier sources. MY source is the man himself, in person. anyone gonna email him and prove me wrong? please?
but of course i's like him to mail me his response.

I clearly remember gabe say that there has NEVER been a release date in the alcatraz video, and this was part of the reason they decided to fund themselves.

This is like the Holocaust deniers. "Hitler never said they were [/I]death camps." Doesn't make it any less true. What do you want, a gold plaque that says 9/30/03 on it?

Like I said before, why don't you look this stuff up yourself?

was the interview with gabe saying so posted here? you would think so, seeing how valve funds this forum, if it was official.

still no links.

when did Gabe change from benchmark "to test upcoming hardware and drivers" to Game?

Are you trying to argue the fact that they never even said September 30th? I'm seriously, totally confused. What ARE you getting at?

Not only has Neutrino posted dozens of sources, I've ripped the release date information from the ORIGINAL HL2 COVER STORY EXCLUSIVE.

Like I said, search the forum for the benchmark, you'll see the confliction of September 30th release for the game and the benchmark. There was an uproar of questions. "HL2 delayed?" "HL2 not delayed, benchmark before game" blah blah blah.

your sources sat planned, and all mention vivendi. There is a reason as to why Lombardi said to ask vivendi when the release date was. Because from day one. it's vivendi who have final say. Valve are trying to fight this, from the looks of the lawsuit, so that vavle can release the game now, because it's ready.

It wasn't from a forum. It was an interview from a news article on Homelan

This is Homelan: http://www.homelan.com/

Now your saying "almost anyone" can post news articles at homelan?

Dear lord, just drop it! They said september 30th last year, and kept chanting it like a mantra 'till the infamous delay.

Do you have proof? links

Use the search button!

Fine. Prove your theory. Multiple sources required. None of this theory junk you've spouted. I want to see atleast 2 other sources stating that Valve never intended to release HL2 on September 30. One powerpoint slide doesn't cut it. Especially since the presentation took place on September 15.

i did. and got nothing but "no official release date"

so where is this date coming from.

email gabe and verify the homelan interview is solid, or link to the email that has already been sent. i searched the ones here. and did not find it. I base most of my opinions on the vavle speaks, the emails in the questions from valve, and video actually showing someone from valve in it.

remember these are my opinions, and like you, I am entitled to them. you don't have to agree.. i'm not asking you to.

Homelan is a very respectable gaming site. They wouldn't post a fake interview.

And it's sad that you're arguing an interview that's over a year old now..

first of all, shader day was september 9th.

i've been searching for the video of the vavle presentation, where gabe actually showed the powerpoint i have linked( and yes, he is in the same frame as the presentation), but neither I nor my secretary can find it...as soon as i do, you bet i'll post it for you.

here's a pic of gabe next to the presentation.

Ya, but frankly our opinions are based on solid evidence and experience. Your opinions are based on niether

You're of course entitled to them, but don't surprised when people laugh at them.

dude, seriously, all of the first magazine stories about HL2 said that valve gave them the september 30th date for the game rls, valve continued to insist the game would be out on the 30th of september, and then shader day came around and they said the benchmark would be out september 30th and everyone went crazy wondering if that meant the game and the benchmark were coming out together or if the game was delayed, etc..etc (and yes i know this because i'm a longtime member of this forum, since the begining, not on this user account of course).

anyways, you really do come off as someone with a mental condition, i wasn't kidding when i said to seek medical help in that other thread.

why are you responding to him like he's a rational human being? he sees what he wants to see.

That was speculation. People were saying, with absolute certainty (ie. Fragmaster) that HL2 was delayed. No one knew for SURE (except Fragmaster, since he had an inside scoop) that it'd be delayed.

Besides, the first delay put the game "officially" aimed at "Holidays 2003." Not Fall 2004.

where's your link?

people said einstein was crazy too, if you wanna be like that.

That's just a news article. Almost anyone can post that. Where's your e-mail from gabe confirming it's authentic?

Just so I get this right, your argument is that September 30th was Vivendi's date an not an official date from Valve correct? I would like clarification on exactly what you are implying.

cadaveca: I'm very sorry but I do respect your opinions but... you just seem to see what you want to see.

I don't know man... you just don't seem right to me... not only is this a year old issue, but we have gone above and beyond proving our point, yet you continue to argue? And you don't even have multiple sources like us? I don't know how more official you can get than a number of emails from Gabe stating September 30th. :)
