a tiny glimpse of the universe

Holy christ that's awesome.

Also neat how it's like looking into the past.

Saw this the other day and I was using the big picture as a wallpaper for a while :p

That ytmnd definitely helps show how insanely filled with shit this universe is...er...was...

That's one of my most favourite pictures ever. It's in this astronomy book I have and I was blown away when I first saw it.

I suppose it's like a glass of water. You think that nothing is there, but it's made up of billions and billions and billions of molecules.

That song...

Is that from... Midnight Express?

awesome. the part that was particularly interesting to me was the one about according to our current theories about physics, that one galaxy shouldn't exist. tough luck!

haha, yeah that interested me too harij

another interesting fact, especially after watching that is the entire amount of matter in the universe can be compared to a grain of sand in a 20 foot cube room

But what about...DARK matter?

What is that shit, anyway?

Physicists/Cosmologists aren't really in agreement about that at this point in time. Some think it's made up of exotic particles that are undetectable by any current methods of observation. Supposedly, dark matter is what holds galaxies together and forms a membrane of sorts throughout the universe.

So it's like...the cytoplasm of the universe?

Can anyone link me to the higher res version of the pic mentioned at the end?

I suddenly feel very small, but it is also comforting knowing that if I ever get bored of Earth I can go to an infinite other places.

And you'd have to have a spaceship.

ROCKET SHIP! VRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

Awesome.. I love that stuff. Imagine what must be in those galaxies. Imagine what might be on some of the planets that are orbiting some of the trillion stars of each of those 10000 galaxies.

The size is something a human mind cannot comprehend. I suppose thats why it's so absorbing to think about it.

I wonder if God lives out there.

Or is it? :ssh:

edit: Yeah, we really need that smiley here.

Actually no, I understand it all clearly.

Yeah? I like to think it's all an imaginary construct that no one can possibly comprehend within the limited space of the time allocated to any one human, and you are some kind of ****tard that pretends he knows what he is doing.

edit: Sorry. Tired and angry again.

Mission Accomplished.
