Okay, could you please prove that ALL older games blow on Vista ? Because, you know, I've been playing OpenGL games, SCUMM-engine games, Dos games via DosBox and a ton of other games some of which are over 10 years old perfectly fine on Vista.Too bad all other older games blow on vista. So looks like you will need 2 different PCs to play new games and old games. Thanks Microsoft.
Educate yourself, please.vista ultimate consume 800MB of memory.... to run next gen / this gen games without any lag to the system you need extra 2GB free and ready.
Err, what you're [trying] to say is silly. You do not need a third-party app to have them play nicely. With BootMagic or similar software. Both OS like to be the only OS, so you need something like Boot Magic to make them play nice.
The DRM thing is pretty stupid unless you won't buy a 360, PS3, Wii, iPod, use iTunes and a ton of other things. Yes, Vista has DRM but if you don't actually use DRM'd content there it is of no effect to you.My reason for not getting is because of older games not working properly and because of DRM.
Gunner, what exactly is the difference from the OEM and non-OEM. If by OEM you mean pre-installed on your machine?
For me, based on my experience, there is no way I'd ever go without a full set of OS discs to re-install it completely .... for when (not if) you get a "nuke it from orbit" problem.
Or an upgrade package or what? Then you have to install the older OS first, before it will let you upgrade it, which, with XP, takes about an hour at least.
I plan to dual boot XP and Vista, so I'm not sure that I'd be able to upgrade 1 copy of XP, while still having a working copy of XP on the same PC, then adding Vista?
... would definitely at least need a separate partition/hard drive.
Could be complicated/not possible.
Vista's DRM does affect you even if you do not use DRM content, in fact it affects you, the hardware manufacturers, software manufacturers, and the stability of you system intensively even if you do not use any DRM content. So please read this and educate yourself. The DRM thing is pretty stupid unless you won't buy a 360, PS3, Wii, iPod, use iTunes and a ton of other things. Point out the bad things about Vista, of which there are many, or the things you do not like but please, don't say stupid things or act like you actually know something when you don't. ^_____^
Oh, and you can get Vista cheap in so many ways such as OEM, upgrade version (Most people would be applicable for this), student version, through uni/school/whatever, with a new PC, choose a version for you instead of seeing Ultimate and going "LOLEXPEN$IVE," and so on.

I have Vista Ultimate and it's using 485mb, and I could still even turn off programs in the background if I wanted to conserve more memory. I currently have a gig of RAM, so that measn I have 515mb free, which is more than the Xbox360's 512 by a hair. I'm also at one of the min spec systems, so you should have 2GB if you want to run some of the next-gen games. Yes, that is also using the fanciest effects Vista has to offer... Jesus you have your "facts" way wrong.
On top of that, when you go into games, it disables all of the fancy effects so it frees up a _ton_ of memory and CPU time. In previous versions of Windows, GDI+ can't quickly offload and reload everything, and keeps taking up memory that could be used by the game. That's not so in Vista thanks to it using DirectX now.
That report is full of so many inaccuracies, the guy admitted he hadn't used Vista, a lot of it are simply his assumptions, etc.Vista's DRM does affect you even if you do not use DRM content, in fact it affects you, the hardware manufacturers, software manufacturers, and the stability of you system intensively even if you do not use any DRM content. Also, beware that even updating your BIOS will make Windows think you've changed the motherboard. I had to call up MS and explain to a tech guy in India, for FIVE MINUTES, the difference between upgrading BIOS and changing the physical motherboard.Nah man with OEM you still get the disc and the cdkey. You just don't get a manual and you're not entitled to support from microsoft. People say that with OEM versions your installation of windows would lockup if you changed anything hardware wise in your pc, but I also read that there are ways to work around that too. Costs 90$ for the vista basic OEM on newegg. I got basic because it's affordable and I don't need all the other stuff they put in the other versions.
And so on . .
Err, what you're [trying] to say is silly. You do not need a third-party app to have them play nicely.
Vista and XP play nicely when you install Vista, I mean, when you install Vista and you have XP on another HDD/partition it detects it and adds it to the bootlist. What's so hard about that ? Also, there are the free programs which allow you to [easily] edit the new bootloader and add everything from Linux to OSX86. o_0

Weird as I've updated my motherboard like > 5 times (GA-P965-S3, I think I'm on the F10 bios now ) and never had to reactivate on XP or Vista. Also, beware that even updating your BIOS will make Windows think you've changed the motherboard. I haven't seen any free bootloaders that claim to work with Vista, though honestly I haven't looked very hard. All the ones I saw don't mention supporting Vista.
LILO or GRUB go nuts. Your brothers a programmer pfft I'm a developer.
Not saying you're a liar just that saying "I know x who .." just makes you sound like you're making things up, kind of like that kid from when you were younger who used to always say "Well, my dad works for x and he has the secret y which isn't out yet." So, you very well could have some famous brother but whether he is/isn't doesn't change that what he said is wrong or it's simply an accidental/honest mistake by you in trying to convey what he said to us on the interwebs. Thanks for assuring me that Vista and Xp can both be installed Destrukt, but don't insinuate that I'm a liar. I don't think it's unbelievable that a relative of mine makes his living using computers... And I don't think mentioning it when it's relevant makes me look ridiculous, but I could be wrong.
Either way I'm going to pretend like I didn't hear you say that.
My brother is a legend in some areas of personal computing, having been doing programing and working the internet since before most of you guys were born, and been featured in magazines, movies, newspapers, radio talk shows, and everything related for his various talents, and if it isn't obvious I hold him in high esteem and am really proud of him.
I get really defensive too, as he was like a father or role model my entire life since my dad wasn't around, so don't even think about calling him a noob!
You will hear about it though if he gets a job at Pixar though!
cool, I'll try one of them, thanks.
"Well, my dad works for x and he has the secret y which isn't out yet."
well, he isn't famous, more like, for example, how a guy who is the narrator of some of the National Geographic episodes might have very limited fame. So, you very well could have some famous brother but whether he is/isn't doesn't change that what he said is wrong or it's simply an accidental/honest mistake
What's your brothers name ? /loads up search engine
Yeah i met and had lunch with Michael Jordan back in 1999. I'm not joking either.
Really.
No really, i have a signed jersey with a photo of me and him having lunch beneath it, hanging on my wall right next to me, at this very second.
He has some pretty cool little projects on there (Unfortunately the portfolio part is down) and I now believe that you have a brother. Oh, I can tell webdesign isn't one his skills, hah.
Thats my other older brother who works on top secret/classified stuff for the government (I'm serious)
well, he isn't famous, more like, for example, how a guy who is the narrator of some of the National Geographic episodes might have very limited fame.
For example, my brother attached a video camera to his R/C helicopter to do some filming for National Geographic, just as one of his various accomplishments.

Yeah, it's nothing to do with you just that any information presented that 'way' on the internet looks very suspicious.I guess I see your point Destrukt, you never know when people are screwing with you, or are telling the truth.
Something interesting possibly worth bragging about, it doesn't really matter that I'm telling the truth, it's something that would be a great deal of trouble to prove even within reasonable doubt on the internet. You could show proof, but with the resources of the internet, anyone could come up with photos of just about anything.
Sure he was!For example, my uncle, before he retired, used to be one of the United States president's bodyguards - one of the guys who's job is to jump in front of the bullet if necessary.
That might not be something to be proud of. :rolling:And I'm President Putin's Bastard Son, but don't tell anyone!
This means I'm supporting terrorism by clicking them?I am Bin Laden. I hide on the internetz in virtual form. I'm the one who sends you those emails about penis enlargement.

I believe you because I was the waiter that served your lunch that afternoon.
And I was the Chef that made that lunch.
And I had sex with the wife of the chef that made your lunch.
And I was disguised as the wife you thought you were having sex with.
