A small Ohio town on Friday went into high alert as police discovered a small quantity of cardboard boxes that had menacingly been decorated with question marks and glitter. These cardboard boxes, that were positioned at key weak points around the town, including a small local bakery shop, was the work of the local and highly dangerous terrorist cell with suspect Al Qaeda links. The 5 suspects, all female, were arrested and could face criminal charges for their evil act of terrorism and vandalism against the poor innocent locals.

These evil women got the idea after stumbling upon a box making website on the internet. One can only hope that the evil monsters and terrorists behind the website and these 5 evil women are sent to Guantanemo Bay for their unspeakable acts of evil and terror :flame:

You never know, Al Qaeda could have a sick sense of humour :p

These small towns are still prepared for a nuclear war by Russia, they will always be paranoid and suspicious. They are negligible to, say, a busy metropolis, where panic would be more awe-inspiring. No group, terrorist or otherwise, would attack a small town, that would be a waste of resources.

The 5 are idiots.
I would have put a gallon of gasoline with chlorine with butane gas containers in the box and set in on fire at a subway station.

Firebomb + Chemical weapons FTW.

"Operation UMass Mushroom Kingdom is still on, by the way. **** em if they can't take a joke. I'm still waiting on the USPS to deliver the boxes I ordered (75, by the way). Once those get in I'll get the rest of the materials needed and post a date to meet in the crafts center (hopefully all of you are still up for it). Join the facebook group too, if you want."

the link isnt working ..couldnt find the story online but I did run into many cases of paranoia in ohio in particular:

Band sticker causes bomb scare at Ohio University

"A sticker for the Pensacola, Florida folk band "This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb" was found on a bike near the Ohio University's Oasis restaurant by a university police officer.

The university police, who were unaware of the band's existence, summoned the Columbus police bomb squad, who destroyed the bike to ensure that there was no bomb inside. The university later discovered their error.

The bike's owner, a graduate student, has been charged with "inducing panic," a misdemeanor. He has been released and is due to appear in court March 13 on the charge.

The band's label, Plan-It-X Records, has not yet commented on the incident. The font and style of the sticker are common among such humorous stickers."

the media/government use scare tactics to justify the war on terror. It worked so well in fact that people are turning in their neighbours on suspicion alone. The irony is that the war on terror/invasion of iraq pretty much guarenteed that the threat is very real and inevitable

Five teenage girls allegedly playing a game they learned about on the Internet could face criminal charges after leaving 17 suspicious packages throughout Ravenna.

The first suspicious package was reported around 7:15 a.m. Friday when a passerby flagged down a passing officer regarding a strange box on the steps of Immaculate Conception Church, 225 S. Sycamore St., according to Ravenna Police Chief Randall McCoy. The box was wrapped in gold paper and had black question marks painted on the sides.

Church employees told officers they had no idea what the package was and were not aware of any packages of this nature having been left at the church before.

The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit was contacted, along with the Portage County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Detection Unit. The HAZMAT team checked for radiation and chemical warfare agents, none of which were detected.

McCoy said at the same time agents were dealing with the situation at Immaculate Conception, more calls came in to the Ravenna Police Department that other similar packages were being found in various locations.

Those locations included the Portage County Courthouse, where four packages were found; Deluxe Pastries, where one package was found; at Cherry Way and Main Street, where two packages were found; Reed Memorial Library, where five packages were found; Ravenna High School, where three packages were found; and at Sanford and Main streets, where one package was found, for a total of 17 packages.

The package at Immaculate Conception was opened by emergency response officials and was found to be empty, McCoy said.

McCoy said while the investigation was ongoing at the various scenes, a female juvenile and her parent came in to the Ravenna Police Department claiming responsibility for the packages, claiming they were just a joke. A total of five female juveniles - all ages 16 or 17 - are suspected of being involved, McCoy said.

“The girls found an Internet site called Mario Question Blocks which told you step by step how the game is played, along with instructions on wrapping the packages, just to see what kind of response you get,” McCoy said. “This game is evidently being played all over the country.”

McCoy said even though no harm was intended by the girls, they could face criminal charges for their actions.

“The potential is always present when dealing with a suspicious package that it could be deadly,” McCoy said. “In today’s day and age, you just cannot do this kind of stuff.”

In addition to Ravenna police and the HAZMAT crew, assistance was received from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Kent Fire Chief Jim Williams, Ravenna Fire Chief Geoff Cleveland and Mark Griffiths of the Portage County Emergency Management Agency.

McCoy said the incident will be referred to the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges against the girls.

Quoted it for your benefit :).

But the strange thing is, i have posted this same thing in a number of different forums and everyone has taken it with good humour or how you've taken it Stern, saying the responce was exagerated due to the fear mongering. But some people on one forum took it as a personal attack against Americans and wishing the girls thrown in jail and fined heavily.

I used to some what agree with the saying of "The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance" but when you get situations like this where it's a simple, harmless joke, it just takes the biscuit. I could understand the reaction if it was Northern Ireland 10years ago, but not a quiet American town that's about as interesting as any other quiet American town.

LOL, how can people think boxs with questions marks are bombs. Like a plane just happend to fly over and drop them in trees with no one noticing.

What is the number for the bomb squad anyway? Someone left their bin outside near the road and I think it might be a bomb. :|

which forum?

Reminds me of a Micheal Moore film. He's going round small suburban towns, asking people if they're afriad of terrorists.

"I'm always on the alert now after 9-11, if theres a new person around I'm always wary, he just might be a terrorist".

"Wear wud Tearerists attack us? Wall thairs a dunkin donuts, maybe they wanna attack that"

well I asked cuz I experienced something similiar over another similiar story at some other gaming forum ..I was banned for questioning the silly paranoia inheriant in most people's replies ...I recieved a admin note saying "we dont take kindly to anti-americanism" which is funny because at that particular forum I never discussed politics

lol

I mean, i could understand the reaction fully if it was Northern Ireland 10 years ago, due to the IRA bombings or if it was a suspicious, inconspicuous case left at Heathrow but if it's just some brightly coloured and decorated boxes...you would have to be very silly or extremely worried to take it to the point where it is a suspected bomb.

I wonder how long until they find mine. They will get more than just glitter that's for sure.
