Illegal things are not always illegal because they are legitimately bad, and often the reverse is also true.Things are made illegal because they're bad for society as a whole
Porn, as a whole, is not bad for society.
Prostitution, as a whole, is bad for society.
Hence the distinction, at least in my opinion.
Sure they're morally equivalent, but that has nothing to do with law. The law looks at not only the action but the effect of that action.
Marijuana is illegal (at least in the US), despite having very few negative consequences of minimal severity. Alcohol, on the other hand, is completely legal, yet is many times more harmful, and can easily be fatal.
The first thing you have to realize here is that the law is not infallible. Its marginally fluid nature means that it can be exploited and changed in ways that are not always conducive to the positive progression and development of society.
So in that sense, prostitution is not necessarily bad. I suggest you look at it from a philosophical standpoint, rather than a purely legal one: What purpose does it serve? Who is involved? What are its consequences? How does it affect those who do not take part?
