i wonder if you are smart compared to generally accepted standards, as in are you smarter than your peers. I for one consider myself a bit above average, kind of like in the middle class. I'm not smart as a genius, but I can usually figure stuff out and use my mind to lift fairly heavy objects. So howz about youz guys.

I consider myself a VERY intelligent individual, with a great penchant for writing. Even though I don't have the best education in the world, I still find myself with the capabilities of Lex Luthor. However, I generally use my brain power for good, and only minor evils.

Knowledge is a matter that i'm ramping up as well, which is whats been lacking from little schooling.

Uh.. that's real interesting.
This topic is pointless: who's to say who is smart, beyond school grades? People who lack a certain type of intelligence often make up for it with another.

That's the most intelligent thing that will ever be said in this thread.

If anyone doesn't know what the **** I mean just leave this thread. But if you consider yourself smart in some aspect of life, state that aspect and state why you think your smart in that area. I for one consider myself smart in theology because I have a mind that always sees things in a philosophical mode. For example, I see some do some evil and see them as a person who needs help. Anyway, on with the show.

I don't know. I find myself rather retarded, but at least I seem more intelligent than the average american (at least the average american you see on TV).
There are also many here in Sweden that watches MTV, football or plays Counter-Strike and these kind of people are all retarded for some inexplainable reason.

At least I have a better intelligence than these people and considering there are quite alot of them, I guess I suddenly became above average. :stare:

I do very well in things I enjoy. But no fun = me no workie...

A man who knows himself will do well in the world. If you know yourself in compairson to those around you, you've got it made.

True that. If I'm doing something that I don't find enjoyable, I see it as a task instead of an opportunity. But when I try to see it as an opportunity, I do pretty well. but some things are just boring as watching paint dry.

Lol this thread is odd. No one can say that they themselfs are smart or not. Thats something you only can say about other people.

A person who does well at what he does is smart. Don't judge yourself based on just school, judge yourself on your life.

Way to prove my point: You certainly don't have people smarts, you rude asshole.
I know perfectly well what you think you mean, but my point is that "are you smart" is such a nebulous, false construction that any response or discussion is pointless.

not really. i know taht I don't have very good social skills, but I have skills in other aspects of life. But don't turn this into a thread about me.

I do very well in things I like, like science, social studies, IQ tests :p, english (well, better than 99.87% of people my age and better than most adults), and computers (relatively).

I wish that I was extremely good at math though, its my key to sucess.

He isn't. He's posting his opinion. Like you asked him to. What's wrong with that?

I know I'm smart. Probably moreso than many of my peers. I just don't put my intelligence to application all that often. I'm quite verbose, I'm sharp, I place a strong emphasis on rational and logical thinking, everybody I've met says I have a knack for writing, and I generally have an interest in theology, philosophy, and psychology as opposed to "who won the footy match, mate?".

But it seems to have come at the cost of some social awkwardness, being shy, sounding condescending, absentmindedness, and so forth.

I'm not smart, but I have my sexiness to make up for it, not to mention I'm blonde, so I have an excuse for being stupid.:D

Hm, that sounds like me down to the T. But about the shy thing, I used to be shy and insecure as hell, but nowadays it's really changed.

I dunno why really, probably because of my recent friends, especially this one guy who seems to have the confidence of a thousand men, talks with absolutely everyone and seems to be close friends with them too.

We've become quite close friends and he honestly thinks he is stupid and talks way too much crap, like. I try to cheer him up on the matter and tell him he's really charismatic, and while I bring myself down for seeming to know "too much" about things he says it's awesome to be like that.

But I think what he's been saying really changed my view on social issues. I think I've been shy because I've been almost afraid of saying anything if it's not really logical and intelligent.

The secret to being outgoing seems to be "Talk more crap".

Now I have it much easier being outgoing with people, especially girls hehe, it's honestly great. Just feels abit weird going from this person who thinks he's never going to be able to be himself with other people to someone who's himself, and really good at that, around people.

And I really don't study hard or make an effort at learning anything, things just "stick" to my head, like it's a sponge or something. People don't disrespect me or think I'm condescending for my intelligence because I really make an effort at humbling myself.

I hate these discussions, because intelligence itself is so varied and so hard to define. It's almost a personal opinion, what to call "intelligence". I mean, someone like Pat Robertson would concider blind faith to be smarter than anything else. Needless to say, that scum is dead wrong in my opinion, but I'm just sayin'.

I would have to say I'm about average, I do well in History but my worst subject would of been Math

YeSh i fink i am qiuet smart!

Yeah, i'm pretty smart.

QFT.

I thought I was smart until I got into High School. Tough as shit for me. Well, let's just say I learn what I want to learn, I guess. Like Chemistry I'm failing right now because I don't give a shit. But Journalism? Business Tech? Straight A's.

I consider myself smart in computer matters. I mean, if problems arise with my computer or somebody elses, there's a good chance I'll be able to fix it or at least pinpoint the problem.

I sometimes find myself over-analysing something too, including myself :|

Anyway, enough with this braggery, we need some HL2 Christmas carols :p

True. That is a problem I have. I tend to over-analyse things to the point of excess. I over-analyse my own actions and end up getting myself pissed off.

In relative terms, I would consider myself "smart". Though, what I consider "smart" is different than what the other person considers smart. Compared to the rest of my friends I have a good ammount of intelligence when I apply myself to it.

A genius is only a genius because the rest of the people around him are morons. Example, Eliezer S. Yudkowsky, who wrote The Low Beyond which includes Staring into the Singularity and the definition of Smartness. Of course, he considers himself a Genius but only because he is well above the standard of human "intelligence".

I don't really like classifying intelligence because there are a lot of levels of it. So I guess I could be considered smarter than most people, but not in every way.

I don't know about over all but I consider myself rather intelligent when it comes to computers. In my entire high school I was 1 of 2 that were able to actually help the A+ teacher because nobody else knew nearly as much about computers. I always seem to be able to fix any hardware problem and 99% of software problems. I just understand computers rather well, it's pretty easy for me.

Very smart according to standardized tests, math skills, grammar, vocabular, general trivia, and reasoning skills. My grades are good, but not great.

According to my tests im a bloody genius.

According to my teachers im a complete moron

X_X

Grades don't have shit to do with intelligence, though.
