Great link, sums it up nicely. Hope he's got that from an inside source.

I'm going to buy HL2 in the first place and then see if it's playable or not

It's a summary of the Maximum PC article that was printed several weeks back. From what I understand, they actually got an early look at the benchmark software.

Just bought a 9800 pro, should be here tommorow. Im pretty satisfyed with my system for now.

I'm gonna be getting a new case to fit my new power supply that will be powerful enough for the Radeon 9800 I'm getting. Also, buying new motherboard so that I will HAVE AN AGP SLOT. :) Seriously, this IBM I got last fall came without an AGP slot. (I thought it was basically a standard now.) Good motherboard though: Abit SR7-8X

Is there any further word on the benchmark yet?
I'm tempted to not upgrade until I see with my own eyes that it doesn't work right (denial's a wonderful thing), but I know I'll have/want to. At the same time, I really don't wanna get the game home and get pissed off with it 'cause it's not working how I want it to and only THEN upgrade.
PC Upgrade = Much money = Bye bye student money...

Edit: If anyone would care to hazard a guess as to the possible results my current PC'll give, then that'd be dandy:
Athlon XP 1600+
256Mb RAM
GF3 64Mb

2.4c
Abit IS7-G
1gb corsair XMS pc3700
9800 pro
80 gig SATA drive

zalman heatsink, rheobus, kingwin kt436 case, blue cathode, etc.

$1800 plus shippng and my wireless G network.

I'm upgrading to:
MSI 865PE Neo2-LS Motherboard
P4 3.0C or 3.2C
1GB of Dual DDR400
Radeon 9800 Pro (9900 Pro if it is out) @ 8xAGP
120GB 7200RPM HDD (in addition to the 80GB HDD I have already filled)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they make the 3.06GHz processor in an 800MHz FSB version... and a 2.8C beats a 3.06.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, that motherboard supports up to PC3200...

i play mohaa on full, UT2003 ON FULL EVERYTHIN with the MOST BOTS ON U CAN HAVE and it is SOOO crazy and not glitch slow down.

it will run hl2 and doom3 like a dream ;)

Man, For 5 years (thats right, my computer is 5 Years old:eek: ) I've been searching for games worthy of an upgraded computer. And now that I've spotted one, I'm gonna take it to the next level with a 2.4 Ghz 800 MHz Front side bus, 512 Mb RAM, and a radeon 9700 pro.

don't beat my 3.2ghz p4
768ram (in the 700ram somewhere)
19inch
5.1surround
gforce 4 ti 4600 ultra ;)
best pc out todate with 4days old in it! LOL|

£3000 and somethin

was a bomb but gonna last me a hell long time

its not the best pc ou ttodate cause it has a gf4 ... you need a 5900 or a 9800 pro and you dont have a gig of ram and who knows what kind of ram it is or how fast it is... so chill out and dont bragg. my setup is in my sig ... its almost as good as yours and it will be as good as yours soon ...:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

3000 pounds (more than $4000) for that?
I'm getting what I said for a good bit less than half that price... probably a third.
EDIT: I could buy a 21" LCD ($1250) and still be a good $1500 below what you paid.

1.7 P4
384 megs RDRAM --> 512 megs
Geforce3 -> Radeon 9800 / Geforce FX 5900 (convert? not convert?)

That's about $500. I usually buy a new a computer every 3 years (as in 2 * 18 months, so computers are 4x faster than mine accordign to Moore's law) and I buy a new vid card in the middle.

ok now i feel bad ... commando your computer is really good its just not the best of the best but its one of the best ... idk what im talking about its just good, its way to hard to have top of the line when your talking about computers but your computer is good

Oh yeah and I plan on getting one more 256mb stick of ram so I can utilize dual channel. I'm ready baby!!

Buying a whole new rig:

P4 3.2
1GB RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
SB Audigy 6.1
21" SONY Trinitron CRT

Now I've just gotta wait for official word on the release date... [/me crosses fingers and toes]

best pc?????.....nah. There are much better parts. Damn good cpu though!

Here's my current rig:

P4 1.8 GHz
512 MB RDRAM
Geforce 3 Ti 500
Soundblaster Live! X-Gamer 5.1

The only things I plan on doing are buying a new vid card, possibly 9800 pro, and overclocking my CPU to at least 2.0 GHz. I highlighted that I had RDRAM becuase I thought it was funny that I'm the only person on these boards that I have seen actually use the stuff. It's the slower kind, 400 MHz I think. But I thought RDRAM was supposed to be better for gaming... Oh well, makes no difference to me, I suppose it's probably too expensive now, relative to DDR.

I would buy a whole new comp, but i think i can upgrade cheaper.

A whole new comp would cost about 1500 pounds (my pound symbol doesn't work) but i think i can upgrade for about 900 pounds.

Thats to;

3.2 Xp Athlon
1gig of 3200 ram
9800 256mb version
80gig 7200rpm HDD
Nforce 2 motherboard (not sure of the exact name)

I will get a new keyboard as well

Sorry commando, you got ripped off big time, i could get a pc as powerful as the one mentioned above (which is more powerful then yours btw) for 1500 pound. You should of got 2 pc's for that price.

hes right, my bro just got a 3.06ghz 512mb ram 40gb hard disk, 64mb graphics card LAPTOP for £1200ish

Holy crap! You paid £3000 for that? It's nice, but it's certainly not worth that amount of money. Something similar to that could be bought for half the price.

yeah read what i said about the alienware one. That was over priced at £2500 AND it is beter than that system. sorry mate. You got done.

Even so, you've still paid an extravagant amount for it.

no kidding. I still say u got done m8. No offence meant. I just think i got scanked a little. Where did you buy it anyway?

I mean hell, that alien ware one i mentioned for £2500 had 2gb of ram and 3.2ghz and a 256mb graphics card!

There was a rumor or a web site advertising hl2 with a vid card radeon 9900 (weird, same as nvidia).

As of writing, its the 4th article from the top on http://www.halflife2source.com

rumors so far, and few other places have tossed word of it around, so reliability is not high (as a sky scraper! Haha- ok im done)

Yeah, that's quite old now. It's been discussed alot. I also think you mean the nV 5900, right? Not the nV 9990 :p

I am goin to be upgrading my graphics card to an ATi Radeon 9700 Pro before Half-Life 2 comes out!

-merc

I Jus built a whole new comp 50% of it only for hl2, heres the specs:

MSI Neo 2 LS (x6 USB 2.0) - $100

1024MB of Corsair XMS Low Latancy PC3200 400+ mhz DDR SDRAM - $300
ATI READON ALL IN WONDER 9800 PRO 128MB w/ViVo and Ati TV controller, ect... - $399

FYI: I just went to Alienware, and configured the following:

P4 3.2 gig
1 gig RAM
soundblaster audigy 5.1
geforcefx 5900 ultra
120 gig HD
all the little things

you shouldn't get hardware for games that aren't out yet.

I'm waiting to upgrade my GeForce 2GTS. I will once HL2 goes gold.

You would always save around $1000 and you will also have better parts... So ordering computers from major companies means your always getting RIPPED OFF!!!
