Athlon xp

use the hardware forum please..
and yes, why wouldnt that cpu work fine in win 98?

This is probably best posted in the Hardware Forum.
But that should run fine.

no need for an apoligy, just follow the rules, and read before posting---its really that simple ;)

why wouldn't it run on win98/dual boot? you'll be fine

Everyone should have lied and told him he needed to upgrade - Windows 98 is a poor OS. Windows XP is the fastest (debatable), most reliable, best looking, easy version of Windows ever. Some people have had problems with it, namely people who have older hardware that can be incompatible with XP. If your computer is pretty decent hardware wise, then upgrade to a better OS asap. Win2k or WinXP.

sry for late reply but about WinXP... after having not rebooted for usually 3+ days (going on 11 days now) every damn problem you can think of almost will have happened; odd thing is, it almost seems to repair itself sometimes; for example, with 30+ i.e. windows open, they may now and then disappear, only being able to alt-tab do them (annoying), then 5mins later they come back up on the taskbar

things like right-clicking gets disabled, address bar is gone for new i.e. windows, javascript goes corrupt, right-clicking shows a black rectangle without going over each line, every app on taskbar hide so you have to do ctrl-alt-del to close them, then rerun; speaking of ctrl-alt-del, sometimes it doesn't work at all, then at another time it works but half the menu is gone

I swear I've had so many more bugs crop up with SP1, it's ridiculous

Hm...I'm very happy with XP. Not any real problems so far and only a handfull of Blue Screens.

how long do you usually go without a reboot and how much crap do you have running?

processes: 60, commit charge: 565mb (pf), full load 24/7, 18229 handles, 760 threads atm

what really pisses me off is that when I run a game and then exit out, I automatically gain 200mb of physical memory, so I guess there are still memory leaks?

I agree Windows XP owns $$. Iam on a overclocked Athlon XP 2400 and I havnt rebooted for days and Ive gone on the net non stop for weeks, no blue screens either :)

again tho, stability means nothing unless you're a heavy multitasker

it's so much easier to do a quick reboot when you don't have much running because when you have all this crap going, it's very annoying to start everything back up; makes me wonder what's the record uptime for WinXP; all I've heard of is 30 days, and that's not that great really

yes thats the exact reason why I dont reboot.

You know... I've NEVER had a blue screen with XP... wow...

Uhh yeah it will run it great, but you should take a look at the barton 2500+. It will perform better by like 20%.
