This starts in the US in a month, I think (And I hope it doesn't take too long to cross the Atlantic). What're your thoughts / predictions on the new series?

Aang's going to need a firebending teacher. Iron (Favourite character ^_^) or Jeong Jeong seem to be the two most likly candidates, unless they bring in a new character for that. Though they'll have to find the latter first, or rescue the former.

Speaking of Iroh, I want to learn more about him and the Order of the White Lotus. I hope it wasn't just a once-off plot device or something that was made to seem important just to distract, it's quite interesting.

I also want to know the details of Ozai's coup. What the hell happened to Zuko's mother and grandfather? I doubt we're going to get any major revelations from the revealing of Ozai's face. The only thing I could think of that would be any bit dramatic and sensible is if he's related to Avatar Roku.

Toph is probably going to be invaluable, due to her metal bending (I doubt anyone else is going to learn it).

Jet and Suki are probably dead, but I also won't be overly suprised if either somehow pop back up.

What will happen with Zuko and Ozai, I can't imagine. That'll be interesting to see.

I want to see some Fire Nation war ballons!

That's all I can think off. Discus AND PUT ANY REAL SPOILERS FOR THE NEW SERIES IN SPOILER TAGS.

you watch avatar? its a totally awesome cartoon, I freaking love it, the environments, the drawings, the story, it just takes my breath away. I can't wait for the new series..

TRAILER

What happens:
 • Aang (with some short, black hair) wakes up and sees a Fire Nation banner
 • Then Katara heals him a little (The would in his back from Azula's lightning attack)
 • Zuko kissing Mai
 • Something I can't make out
 • A silhouette of Ozai
 • Zuko with his top-knot back looking sad
 • Aang telling Katara that he must fight Ozai, alone
 • Zuko telling a very worn-looking Iroh that if they had returned together, Iroh could have been a hero
 • Zuko pulling up a hood before walking off somewhere
 • Sokka, in new armour and riding something, screaming CHARGE
 • Some fighting and explosions
 • A dragon, possibly Roku's
 • What could be a younger Roku, entering the Avatar State
 • An armada of non-Fire Nation-looking ships
 • Earth kingdom tanks, probably of Machinist design (With his son, you know, the one in the wheelchair, driving one)
 • Some explosions
 • Katara in some new clothes, shouting (as usual) and then doing some impressive water bending
 • Aang (bald again) running
 • Possibly Roku again, older this time (But he doesn't look like he's in spirit-form) doing some air-bending
 • Various fighting scenes with Aang, Sokka and Katara
 • Explosions
 • Katara attacking a Fire Nation war balloon (^_^)
 • Aang, with hair, shoving his staff (damaged-looking) into the ground, possibly at a volcano
 • An avatar (Young Roku?) bending all four elements
 • Aang, bald, gliding with a new staff (probably from the machinist)

At first I thought you were referring to James Cameron's upcoming epic.

All I know of the anime is that it's about some bald kid who's actually like 200 years old going around doing stuff.

It's not an anime; it's American. Despite that, it've very good and gets quite dark at times.

Basicly, in the world there are 4 nations: The Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes and the Air Nomads. Each country has [insert element here] benders that can manipulate their element. Eg, the Fire Nation has fire benders that can shoot fireballs and manipulate fire and stuff. For some reason some fire benders can manipulate volcanoes and lava too, and some can shoot lightning.

Anyway, the main character, Aang, the 12 year-old monk who has been frozen for the last 100 years, is the Avatar. That means that he can manipulate all four elements and is basically the most powerful person in the world. Shortly after he disappeared (ie, 100 years ago) the Fire Nation started an imperialist war on the world, starting with a genocide of all of the Air Nomads (Aang's people). The Earth Kingdom is losing ground every day and the Fire Nation could take out all of the Water Tribes fairly easily if they turned their attention towards them.

Aang then wakes up and finds out that the world is really ****ed up and he's the only person that can do anything about it. I'd say more, but I have to go.

I predict that Mai is going to attack Zuko's mouth like there's delicious chocolate candy in his throat.

And then Zuko will use his fire-breath and make Mai's head asplode, and then Ozai will be all "OWNED!" and Mai will be all :| except she won't be because she'll have no head!11one11!!1

If anyone insults Avatar I will rip off their head and shit down their neck.

That said, AVATAR BOOK 3 **** YEAH!

/EDIT Jet is confirmed dead.

I don't think she's dead. Captured, perhaps, put to work for the Fire Nation or some such, but they wouldn't kill Suki. It doesn't seem like something that would conceivably happen.

If she does, then we know Sokka has a terrible curse upon him: All women he loves will die.

Which may work out in the Aang Gang's favor if he reciprocates Ty Lee's feelings.

To me Azula not killing the Kioshi warriors doesn't seem like something that would conceivably happen. I just don't see her letting them live.

For a children's cartoon though, it's really hard to come out and say someone died, or that another character killed someone. That's why Jet's death was so ambiguous, even though most people realized he died. But they couldn't come out and say, "he's dead."

Perhaps if we're lucky the success of Naruto (which actually does show character deaths and speaks about them in plain terms) will have emboldened Nickelodeon, but I highly doubt it. I think it might be too much for the age demographic.

Assuming that Azula didn't capture Suki, chances are she fled. It's probably going to be one or the other. There's like a 0.1% chance that Suki was killed.

Avatar and Venture Brothers are the only cartoons that i absolutely must watch. Avatar is surprisingly awesome for an American attempt at anime, and i hate anime. and Venture Brothers has the line "I can taste my own genitals....in my mouth...its....a conundrum".

what?? it's american?!

I love Avatar, and this season will be epic.

I'll getting the DVD soon (By 'getting' I mean getting a torrent for it). I can't wait to see it, I will watch every second of it.

It's artificial.

lawlz

IT'S AWESOME END OF STORY.

I agree with Darkseid on this one - no matter the character type of Azula and Mai and Ty Lee (although it's only Azula who seems the murdery type), Nick probably wouldn't kill off Suki.

INTERNETS + SERIES OF TUBES, duh.

Incest.

Incest in the fire kingdom.

Oh yeah.

Evil Fire Bitch can invade my nation any day.

Also why are people saying, "despite" the fact it's American it's a good show? American cartoons are incredible. Some of you are too young to remember that, before the anime invasion, we pumped out some awesome stuff.

Hey, I'm young, and I remember that.

FREAKAZOID!

American did pump out some great cartoons, but most now are just crap, with a few exceptions. And Darkside, it's the Fire Nation, not the Fire Kingdom.

Po-tay-to, po-tah-to. Doesn't matter what it's called, what matters is Azula's seducing Ozai. Or at least I think that's Azula. May time never prove me wrong. You know she'd do it. Evil Fire Bitch will do anything for more power.

Speaking of things Azula's done:

scarificationwlbv3.jpg

I am terribly surprised they can show that in a children's cartoon. It's quite gory.

But then, look what Azula's doing with daddy. I tell you this cartoon is getting hardcore. HARDCORE!

This looks good. Is it!? What's it about and so on? I'm too lazy to look it up and I know Darkside enjoys the big write-ups. :p

This is Avatar, Nickelodeon cartoon that airs Friday nights.

The world of Avatar is made up of four nations: Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Each nation has talented people who can control the element of their homeland, a practice called "bending." The four nations lived in relative peace until 100 years ago, when Fire Lord Sozin had aspirations of expanding his power and domain. He began taking over nations, but was held in check by the avatar: a human who serves as the bridge between the astral and physical planes, and can bend all four elements.

The avatar is a lineage, a spirit that reincarnates into a new body each time the previous avatar dies, much like the Dalai Lama. When Avatar Roku (a member of the fire nation opposed to Sozin) died, he reincarnated into an airbender named Aang. Aang's destiny was to defeat the Fire Lord--a foe who had been growing more powerful since Roku's death. This revalation was too much for the 12-year-old Aang, and he fled, only to be caught in a storm that forced him to seal himself in a block of ice.

100 years later, two members of the water tribe, Sokka and his sister Katara, unearth Aang and thaw him out. In the past hundred years he was away, the fire nation has nearly conquered the world. Now Aang must stop them from completing that goal.

Along his journey he makes many friends and allies, as well as many enemies--like the current Fire Lord's son, Prince Zuko, and his deadlier sister Princess Azula, who hunt the avatar.

Each chapter of the story is divided into "books"; Book 1 was Water, Book 2 was Earth, Book 3 was Fire. This is supposedly the last arc for Aang and co., or some such, but the series is expected to continue. Book 3 is the climax of this arc, though.

It's a really amazing show, despite the demographic. Mature themes, real character development and drama, and lots of action and humor to pace it. The animation's beautiful too; every episode has a $1 million dollar budget for animation. Seriously, go check it out. It's awesome.

If we don't get certain things done this season, I will be pissed.

Among other things:

a) Lightning-bending-redirect technique. I have never, ever, seen a technique taught to a person in a show and then the technique was never used. Will Avatar be an exception?

b) ...I'll think of more later. ><

If Iroh doesn't kick some ****ing ass I'll be pissed.

Looked at title, saw it was anime, left thread.

It's not anime.

Oh, by the way Jin. Iroh uses the lightning-redirecting technique in The Avatar State (When Azlua tries to shoot Zuko with it), Book 2, Chapter 1.

Honestly, that's the most retarded reason not to watch things. It's along the lines of "Came into thread, saw it was a TV Show, left thread."

I thought of another one! What the hell does the Order of the White Lotus actually do? If they don't follow that up I'll be pissed.

/EDIT No, i meant Zuko using the redirect. He hasn't used it yet, and conventions of shows demand that if you learn a technique you must find it critically useful in the near-future. It'll also probably be a sign of character growth or something, knowing Avatar.

Need to get the DVDs - love it but am so far behind that i have no idea what is going on...

The dvd's are sold in "volumes" instead of seasons. At the moment you can get all volumes of Book 1 for around 90 bucks. Its a rip-off to buy this show on DVD at these prices. Its a rip-off to buy any show for that price. I can get "The Wire" for $40 and thats 13 hours of television, whereas a full season of Avatar costs 90 for about 3-4 hours.

Huh? They sell in Seasons. It's called a boxpack... though I've yet to see any in stores around here. What are you talking about? Full Season of Avatar is... let me see. 20 episodes, each clocking in at about half an hour... 10 hours? You can get them for US $60 in Book 1: Water or Book 2: Earth. Book 2: Earth went on sale like about a week ago, man.

I will never enjoy any of this legitimate ownage though because I'M AUSTRALIAN. :(

20 episodes + special features = 3-4 hours now?

It's a cartoon and it looks Asian.

Close enough
