Babylon 5

There are some good episodes, classic JMS stuff. There's also some arsery from the corporates interfering though.
The plot arcs never really get to go anywhere which is frustrating since you can recognise several being set up as in the first season of B5. But without the crappy Sinclair.

Maybe I'll check it out.

By the way, Babylon 5 has full episodes from the first two seasons up on Hulu, if anyone is thinking about checking it out and hasn't yet. Watch it. Tell your friends to watch it. Tell people you don't even like to watch it.

Yeah, I remember Crusade being interesting, but it didn't seem like as tight & as engrossing as B5. Some great characters & dilemmas though. I think I'll check out Crusade again; it's been awhile since I've seen it.

Thinking about picking Jeremiah up again - I've always been a big JMS fan, and that show is just about as enjoyable as B5, IMO.

Crusade was a total ****ing cocktease.
God damn it, you could see the seeds of major arcs getting planted but they never got anywhere! :frown:

duly noted Lucid, I also noticed that the 5th season was a cock tease as well. the movies were mixed in terms of quality. I just wish they tried another shot at it. in HD...but that won't be for another century I bet

Crusade is definitely one those shows that I would love to see revived, up there with Firefly.

JMS had talked for a while about doing some revivals, but the deaths of the actors who played G'Kar and Dr Franklin both really took a lot of him and changed his plans.

Yes I read that too, although they wouldn't be essential for Crusade (though iirc he planned to use Franklin now and again) I suspect the networks being asses a lot of the time is a bigger hurdle. They really need to leave JMS and Whedon alone to work their magic.

True story.

He had penned another movie that covered some of the loose ends like the Earth Plague and remains of Shadow Tech and stuff, and I believe Franklin was supposed to be a huge part of that arc.

I think the new shorts (Lost Tales) had some pretty remarkable sales and kind of helped to kill the series. They weren't willing to increase the budget for more and JMS wasn't willing to do something so sub-par again.

It would kind of be nice if he had to focus on B5, but he's got so much other work going on between comics and movies that it's been easy to get back-burnered.

Hi all.

I have now wathced the first 6 episodes of season 1 and am really getting into it.

Does it get better, is awesome right until the end. I don't want this series to go all battalestar galactic on me and become a stinking pile of rancid flies buzzing horse shit. I don't want now poppycock series.

Is it worth persevering.

B5 heavily improves with time. S1 is actually the worst season, easily. It's not worth giving up, or comparing it to BSG. It's superior in practically every way.

5 is worse than 1 in my opinion, but yes, it greatly improves in seasons 2-4.

S1 is certainly worth getting through as it sets the stage for the rest of the series and the first half of S5 is a pile of shit but afterwards it's quite excellent.

You won't have to worry about any soap opera garbage for most of the series(up until the first half of S5 atleast :p ) and best of all no insane in your face religious shit shoveled into your face every 3 seconds.

You should watch Farscape after you are done with B5. Then you're pretty much done with sci-fi shows as you've already seen the best. :p

I fully endorse this recommendation.
Though... as far as other scifi shows go there's still Firefly, Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis, LEXX, Star Trek TNG, Deep Space 9, and Voyager, Space: Above & Beyond, Earth 2, Alien Nation, Jeremiah, Earth: Final Conflict, Odyssey 5, and Andromeda.

Mind you, quite a few of these were cancelled before they even got to a second season but they're well worth seeing just to see the concepts.

Ok i'll stick with it, looking forward to it!

Such shows are incredibly rare in this day and age.

Just started watching this show again a few days ago, halfway through the first season and really anxious for the second to occur already.

I'll be rewatching it again once I get my hands on the complete set but that won't be any time soon.

I've just been watching through this show again with my girlfriend, who never saw it. After so many years, man, those effects look pretty terrible. But the show's writing holds up as well as ever.

They're pretty cool and one of the main characters, Londo Mollari, is probably one of the best characters ever conceived of in sci-fi television.

This. Forever. His and G'Kars interwoven arcs totally make the show for me. I think if everything about it was mediocre, this alone could have saved it. It's just so goddamn powerful and well written.

In sad, but not unrelated Babylon 5 news, Jeff Conaway, who played security chief Zach Allen, passed away last week. :(
