Battlefield 2142 contains spyware

"The software may incorporate technology blah blah blah.."

May? MAY? are EA really and seriously unsure? This one quote put my wallet on permanent EA lock down, I had no intention of buying this game before, but now EA gets **** all from me but squinty evil looks from under my hat and gobs of chewing tobacco stained phlegm on their dusty boots.

EA is money whoring etc., but if all they do is track my ip and check in which region I am to know what adverts to show, I'm fine with that. They said that they're not collecting personal info.

Chill.

I'm having fun with BF2142, BTW.

I take it it's safe to assume that that slip of paper is found inside the case, making it impossible to get a refund for your opened product?

My 2 pence. Yes the demo was fun, but the EA execs have their hands so far up the designers arses that they all turn into doofs, so f*** EA titles with spyware and advertising built into the game.

I think that no matter how good the game is, people should boycott it on principle.

Just ignoring the fact that it has spyware sends the green-light to other games publishers/developers in the future.

The message that people should be sending is that we don't accept advertising in our full-priced games.

I really hope that the initial sales are so bad that they're forced to conceed, and release an ad-free version.

Vote with your feet people.

This is EA the most vile company on the planet in the gaming business. No one else has the balls to do what they do. Theres enough people who where not going to buy the game anyway complaining, that should be enough.

XFire/BF2142 name so I can play with you.

I'm Aus but Kyorisu in any case.

I just realized something. There are no ads in 2142. I have been playing the game for a pretty good amount of time now, and I have yet to see any.

I played Minsk, Fall of Berlin, Sidi Power Plant, and some others I don't remember the name of, but none of them NONE had ads.

Perhaps they flash one add over your entire screen every 1000 frames... SUBLIMINAL MESSAGING FTW!

Same here. Only bought it about 5 hours ago but have played it since I got home. The only problem that I can find is that it runs like a bag of shit on my computer but have been so engrossed in playing that I havent altered the graphical settings yet. Doh!

Anyway this is the best one of any of the Battlefield series and I am very happy with it.

GG all.

While I'm not saying this whole deal is really any good for the consumer, you guys are acting like you have to take f*cking arms up against some evil world threat now. Come on, sure, it's pretty lame, but do you honestly think sales will be impeded by this? Bring your intellect down to that of the mainstream PC gamer. How many do you actually think will read that little laminated slip and go back for a refund? Personally, I already have the game, and I'm enjoying it. If, although extremely doubtful, this spyware issue begins to FUBAR my PC, or begins "spying" on my personal information, then I will have reason to complain.

For the record:

I fully understand how this could evolve into something really bad, but I really doubt that it will. I personally don't believe EA has any real reason to worsen their situation as a publisher.

are you that insecure about what billboards you are caught glancing at, stern?

but you really really want a Cherry Coke.

Hell yeah. Saw that on a billboard earlier.Where did I see it....oh yeah!

Still for the record, have played BF2142 overnight as well and still havent seen any advertisements. Really happy I bought this game and cant wait to play more. See you in the war!

Even if they didn't have all this crap incorporated into the game, I still wouldn't buy it. All the stories I've heard, seen and experienced keep me off it.
Who would want to buy a multiplayer game that will stop getting updates after a few years, even though the game isn't balanced out yet?

Too much of an overreaction TBH.

Agreed.

I'm also fully satisfied with the purchase BTW. I still prefer modern warfare, but this game is more balanced than BF2 and I'm having more fun with it now (though that's probably also because I've been playing BF2 for over a year so it eventually got a bit repetetive).

I hear ya on the bit repetetive thing. After DICE seemed to have ruined the expereince of the game for me. I loved the game to death, then the last 2 patches came out, and really...just isn't that fun for me. So I think I might end up going back to Natural-Selection and Counter-Strike until Quake Wars comes out...something completely new and fresh.

if the ads in the game looked natural then i wouldnt mind them at all.

So far only placeholders. No company has decided to act on it yet. Don't know if anyone signed on or not.

Would be quite funny if no ads are ever shown, and basically they put all that crap on our pc's for nothing. :|

Like CSS? I am a big fan Of the Battlefield series and also the Counter Strike series but just because a game continually recieves updates isnt necessarily a bad thing just means that there is more to improve on. Im all for both getting updates at regular intervals. Means more stuff to play about with :D

so what if there will be adds ingame... the world is full of adds anyway :p
makes the gaming session more realistic

If you were a pirate you would have an eye patch on each eye

Yarr.

'That' was a satirical yet light hearted stab smuggled from the velvet sheath of sarcastic wit. Why do you ask?
