Bioware Star Wars: TOR MMO - 1st Trailer

Choices matter, can't reload, blah blah blah.

Uh what? Are you suggesting you couldn't just make a second character and make all the opposite choices?

wow, that would be annoying. Almost as annoying as not being able to reload and do a different choice.

I like how every MMO says that your choices will impact the story.

They never do. Ever.

Wish they would have shown ranged combat instead of the usual lightsaber ballet.

Looking forward to this!

Still, if anyone manages a story-driven MMO it'll be Bioware.

Story Driven MMOs always fail. this will be no different. Also, the combat looks even less dynamic than WoW, which is quite an achievment. Stand still and pummel the enemy with lightsaber blows. The exitement.

In short: Yawn, hurry up with Mass Effect 2 on PC.

Ha, LOL, wow. "Good luck Bioware... you're gonna need it." What a laughable looking game, and this is coming from someone that tried SWG back in the day. At least I don't have to follow this one through development to it's release. Game over for me.

Well, they're certainly throwing in all their chips with this one, we'll see how it pays off for them.

Have to admit though, I really like that art style, having seen it in motion. Saber combat looks a bit spastic, but besides that I love the direction they've gone with it. Also the idea of a companion character who actually has his own dialogue in an MMO is pretty intriguing.

The PC Gamer interview says you can play as plenty of other classes other than Jedi. But I can't imagine wanting to play as anything else. :o

Seriously, how are they going to even attempt to scratch at World of Warcraft.

This game looks really, really bad.

It looks... interesting. I thought it was funny when they tried to play off "stylized realism" as their own unique idea for creating timeless and unique visuals. I wonder what other company does this with every major game they've put out?

And it's still a load of crap. You can only go so far with creating what looks like a feasibly realistic setting. Eventually something will horribly break that realism even if you didn't intend it to.

I swore no more mmos!! Damn you Bioware

I have major doubts about this one. I really don't understand Lucas and his cohorts lately (read: in the last 15 years or so).

In short: Yawn, hurry up with Mass Effect 2 on PC.
Seconded. Hopefully released simultaneously with the 360 version this time.

This game will have no subscription, but it's like habbo hotel, you have to pay for stuff in the game with real money :( read this on a website earlier can't remember which one.

Sounds like ghey.

Force-controlled ghey.

That's one EA rep talking out of his ass and out of turn, it wasn't his place to decide anything like that. Bioware and even Lucasarts won't sign off on anything like that.

It's still just a rumour, like I implied in my post, but uhh... John Riccitiello isn't an EA "rep." He's el presidente. :P

I don't consider that in-game footage until I see a HUD and tangible player actions.

I'm still not as pessimistic as you guys are.

I'm not an MMO fan, and this still fails to interest me in any way.

Seriously, someone out there has to find a better way to do MMO's. They are all such pieces of junk IMHO. Compare the experiences you can get in like Half-Life or something, and then look at the experiences WoW will give you. I like Half-Life more since it seems much more personal and exciting, and there is actually some sort of logical arc of story and gameplay, rather than a sudden stop when you reach an arbitrary level cap.

You haven't reached the level cap in WoW have you? That's when the game is most fun and when it is played the most... You don't just get to max level and go "Ok I'm done, what else can I play?"

No, you reach level cap and then realise "Oh I need to play 30 hours a week now to complete the remaining content".

Hmm, "stylized realism" that's an interesting way of saying "Visually, We want this geared towards a younger audience", Lucasarts ;) ;)

Because that's how it always works. Like TF2. Oh. wait.

Putting out an MMO with WoW still going strong is just stupid.

*Grabs your collar*

Listen punk, this is LUCASARTS we are talking about, not VALVE.

Maybe you've forgotten about the past three Star Wars installments and the CGI CLONE WARS FILM YOU HACK.

*throws you against glass door*

Bioware though.

They counteracted the Lucasarts effect for KotOR, if we're lucky they might do it again. Very lucky.

I doubt it will be out for a couple of years yet. However I think that Blizzard have pretty much monopolised the Western MMO market these days, with only a few fringe players (EVE springs to mind) managing to be different enough to carve their own niche, and that convincing someone to throw over WoW for another MMO is an extremely hard thing to achieve. Firstly because WoW is very well made game, secondly people get very invested in their characters development and thirdly (and quite importantly) people naturally develop very strong friendships with other WoW players, and the game becomes as much of a social experience as it does a gaming one. Going to another MMO from an existing one is a bit like going to a strange pub Vs one you're well known in. Unless you make friends easy, or manage to convince a few existing friends to join you, you're probably not going to find it that much fun and drift back to WoW eventually.

I wonder how many people on this thread have actually played KOTOR. As stated earlier, this is Bioware we're talking. Like Valve, it's a company that delivers. This is still in its Alpha stages.

I hate the idea of subscriptions, but if this really is free (or a one-time buy) with micro-transactions then I may very well be interested. As long as items aren't too overpriced and you're fairly stingy with what you purchase, you'd probably spend far less in the long run than with a traditional MMO model. Also you could stop playing whenever you want and pick it back up when you like.

But if it's a traditional transaction model ... it can **** off.
